has anybody tired this mouse pad project?

I was reading on another forum a thread about the "high performace" mousepds like FUnc, etc. One person brought up an interesting idea, to make your own pad.

They said to take a sheet of plexiglass, sand with a high grit sand paper, and put contact paper on it. It sounds like it could work.

I started getting stuff for it yesterday. I got an 8x10 sheet of Lucite Tuff (since my lowes didn't plexiglass, and the sheets were .88 a piece)

Anyway, I still got to get the contact paper and then put it all together. Im thinking of making a stencil with a Japanese character with it, and spray painting it on a sheet of red contact paper in black, and then putting that on Lucite, and maybe put a clear sheet on top as well.

Has anybody tried a project like this? If so, how did it come out? Does it work well?

"and maybe put a clear sheet on top as well."
I don't think opticals like glossy surfaces. I'm using a cutting board (plastic), from Walmart. Big, cheap and doesn't look bad. 😉

i got one even cheaper, it was FREE 😀
its a folder, kinda rough surface, but not too rough. dark blue color. you may say it sucks, but i find it VERY smooth, as well as friends of mine who are hardcore gamers and have used loads of different pads. btw: i keep a few sheets of paper in the folder, to even it out. it works wonders. best "mousepad" i've ever owned.

Dude, go away.

Did you freeze a web developer in 1994 and just thaw him out recently to build that web site for you? 😀

And kindly leave anandtech alone before you wind up getting pimp slapped via the mighty power of admin for breaking furum rules.

anyway, shiny reflective clear surfaces + optical mouse = suckage.

i just use a mouspad with a wolf on it...because the wife likes wolves. i used to use an open notebook, so i always had something to write on when i wanted to jot something down
pffft to pricey "high performance" mousepads though
