This is one of their high priority updates. I'm thinking it should be under their optional software but if its that important to MS then should I install it?

does the update say its a malicious software removal tool? or what cuz they have just released 3 critical updates that provide so called fixes to IE 6.x environments whether you run SP2 or not that could allow a person to gain access to your computer via you clicking a url which is not good at all and i would apply that update ASAP --- http://www.informationweek.com...KHA?articleID=57700584

Like all service packs, if you don't run them your likely exposed to known vulnerabilities. Take the recent .jgp exploit as an example. SP2 was immune, SP1 needed patching after they found the vulnerability.
IMO, if your don't have SP2 by now your kinda asking for junk.
If it's the Microsoft AntiSpyware tool, it's actually pretty decent.

I'm afraid to upgrade to SP2.. as it is such a large release, I am almost certain there will be problems after installation
I've had it ever since RC1. It works great. I don't know why everybody is so paranoid. It's not like it's Win ME or anything.

That's a good thing. SP2 patches holes in memory that were being taken advantage of. SP2 blocks a lot of crap. Software companies are just going to have to rewrite software, but that's too bad for them. They shouldn't have written lazy code to begin with and now that MS is fixing this major issue, they'll have to get their asses in gear.
sp2 has been good to me, and the antispyware client caught 5 things that adaware and spybot didn't catch

You should install Service Pack after reinstallation, before you install any other programs. That's a good way to make sure there's no conflict or anything.
i installed it because it kept popping up. i'm supposed to reboot, but i haven't yet, so i have the "do you want to restart your computer now?" window docked on the bottom right hand corner of my desktop until i decide that i actually do want to reboot.
You don't need them per se, but honestly there is no good reason NOT to install critical updates. I fail to see how them fixing vunerabilities is "crap". The way I see it, it's them FIXING their crap.
I installed it yesterday. The exe gets dropped in a folder in your root directory and doesn't do anything unless you manually run it (so there's apparently no risk involved). When run, it does a very quick scan of a handful of files looking only for a few specific things.
