I'm pretty sure Harvard has made a statement that she won't be expelled because it didn't involve schoolwork. However, one of the Crimson articles cited precedent of at least one prospective applicant being turned away when it was discovered that they had plagiarized articles for their local newspaper.

What if she had gotten a DUI? Should we kick the thousands of students that get in trouble with the law every year out of school because they are not of outstanding moral character?

Are you serious? It doesn't have to relate to schoolwork, but it certainly has to school related.
She took this on as an independent project. A job. It's between her and her publishing company.

Honestly, the plagiarism doesn't seem aggregious. It looks to be more along the lines of her having read the McCafferty novel, and then--appreciating the style--being influenced by it to an abnormal degree in her own. It should definitely lead to the book being scrapped, but I'm not sure if it should bring about an expulsion.

Yay, but then they need to expel most if not all of the professors as well.

I don't think it's just your university.
My friend is Indian and he tells me that it's very well known that some Indians behave this way on the jobsite, too. They'll get a job by bullshitting their way in, they instantly install Yahoo IM on their computers, then they ask more experienced friends in the circle how to perform their work tasks.
His family has been here for the last 30 years, but he's leery of the Indians that have been coming lately.
