I think this is a good idea. Order of the Phoenix was just missing too much stuff, it's too bad they can't go back and make that movie two parts, because I really was interested to see a lot of the things they chopped on the screen. I'm sure Half Blood Prince will be chopped all to hell too though. Hopefully this two-part Deathly Hallows makes up for it.

Should've done this from the start. Well, maybe not with the first three, those just needed to be written by somebody who knew who to adapt books. From 4 on though they're long enough to warrant this. I was talking with my older sister about this a while back and wondered why they didn't do this since it's beneficial to them financially and to the fans who read the books.

Still have yet to see the fifth movie, worried that it could be catastrophic since each movie has gotten progressively worse.

Good. I've been catching up on the HP movies lately and even the Sorcerer's Stone felt unsatisfying, because there was so much missing.

I think the first two movies were great. Sure, they left some things out, but they felt pretty complete and covered the books fairly well.
Prisoner of Azkaban felt a little chopped up and incomplete.
Then 4 and 5 were really disappointing.

I really don't know what the fvck they were thinking. They made 2.5 hr movies out of the first two books, both of which were under 400 pages. What made them think they could do justice to 700 and 900 page books in the same(or less) time? Did they really think people wouldn't go see the movie if it was over 3 hours long?

So I'd be thrilled if they make the final book into 2 parts. I keep hoping they'll eventually go back and fix 3, 4, and 5 and release extended editions that are 4 hours long.

And to whoever bitched about spoilers...
1. the book has been out for quite awhile now.
2. if it's really surprising to you that there's a scene where Harry battles Voldemort or that it takes place at that particular location, then you are a moron.

I'm actually glad they are doing this. There is a TON of story that needs to be explained and finished off with Deathly Hallows.
I think Order of the Phoenix sucked so much because the producers & directors listed to the hollywood advisers who told them "You can't have a movie over 2 hours long". BS! Look at Return of the King. A 3.5 hour movie that won how many Oscars and raked in how many millions? Harry Potter has just as large a fan base if not larger than LotR does. Give us the movie we want and quit ruining such a well written story.

I'm trying to think of a good splitting point in the seventh book, but none comes to mind.

:SPOILER:

I was thinking of maybe the escape from Malfoy's or thereabout.

Sounds good to me. Its about the only pause left in the action before the whole story hits its climax.

YES!

There's just way too much stuff going on, and I really wanted to listen to McGonagall...

command the tables to attack along with the suits of armor. And Mrs. Weasley's infamous line. PLEASE keep that in the movie.

PEEVES!! I want PEEVES!

Warner Brothers executives are just hearing the jingle of cash registers ringing up hundreds of millions in ticket sales...

HP fans will camp outside a store to get a book the day it's released. They would watch a 12 hour movie.:) These "advisers" apparently don't know their fanbase at all.
