Harris Poll - Scary Republican results

You forget, Thump, that Righties are only semi-rational, at best.

When they're hearing what they want to hear, mere innuendo is proof positive. When they're not, no proof is possible. First and foremost, they believe what they believe because they believe it, use their intellect merely to rationalize what are, in their minds, axiomatic concepts beyond question.

Start with a belief in A, which leads to B, which leads to C... most Righties are somewhere near the letter Z in this chain... 30 years of well formulated propaganda have seen to that.

What if A isn't true? They can't possibly even consider that because it'd shatter their worldview, and their self esteem along with it. Denial is their only answer. The stronger the stimulus to re-evaluate, the stronger and more violent the denial, the wilder and more desperate the justifications for it become. The most reactionary among them are truly beyond redemption, because their emotional investment in lies effectively prevents rationality.

Very scary....seems the republicans are sliding farther and farther into fantasy-land. Some numbers from the poll:

57% think Obama is Muslim
48% think Obama wasn't born in the US
38% think Obama is doing the same things Hitler did
24% think Obama is the "Anti-Christ"

This is also really scary:

It's sad that people actually believe this, what's next, arguing that the world is flat? Sad and scary.

When did the magic number move on the Obama talking points memo? I thought it was 250K.

FACT
Obama has raised significant taxes on incomes of 200K or more.

FACT
Obama has signed into a law a very bad marriage penalty, meaning taxing married/joint filers substantially more than their single combined counterparts.

Thanks for proving my point. :awe:

A fair % of the democrat base will believe anything that prevents them from looking at themselves and what they believe in so fervently, despite the fact that implementation of their ideology has led us to the edge of social and economic disaster.

It's always somebody else's fault, usually the evil conservatives, of course. Never admit you screwed up, never admit you've been wrong, never admit that you've been chumped by the very people and ideas you believed in most strongly... Just Deny! Deny! Deny!

Fixed that for you.

You're soo clever, Corn, in a snide and vacuous sort of way.

57% think Obama is Muslim
48% think Obama wasn't born in the US
38% think Obama is doing the same things Hitler did
24% think Obama is the "Anti-Christ"

When that's the truth according to the republican base, it's obviously necessary to engage in some cutesy denial of your own, right?

I blame Fox News. It has a strong republican bias, which is ok, but it does that through blatant lying and misleading people. It's disgusting.

Believe it or not, Fox News actually has less credibility than a comedy show.
Daily Show and Colbert Report viewers are more informed than Fox News viewers

This link has a bunch of links to instances where Fox news was full of shit.

I thought you might like this quote from your Daily Show/Colbert Report link.

Republicans and Democrats are equally likely to be represented in the high-knowledge group. But significantly fewer Republicans (26%) than Democrats (31%) fall into the third of the public that knows the least.

Left wing says left wing has more credibility than the right wing. 😱

at some point, the GOP and it's mindless zealots stopped caring if what they were saying was true - listen to the likes of Sean Hannity, Rush, and the talking-point repeating bunch of GOP Senators/Sheep we have now

I'm not surprised at these poll results to be honest.

yes, the 'left' has it's own annoying people like Olberman - but at least he doesn't blatantly, intentionally ignore the truth like Rush and his cronies - and you fanboys eat it up

Yeh, but the repub base has unshakable faith in what they believe, and that's all that matters to them. They believe government is bad, for example, so they elect people to run it who hate it and seek to exploit it, "proving" what they believed in the first place...

Nifty, huh?

Fox News has credibility. True story :awe:

Obama is obviously a closet marxist.

this is very obvious.
99.999999999345% of Americans are closet communists. Try to take away Medicare and watch how many old people try to murder you.

How many Dems said the same thing about Bush (with the possible exception of his being a Muslim)?

Bush was arguably closer to fascism than Obama is to communism (the fascism link to Obama is a joke)

the only other thing I would say is that Cheney is certainly the anti Christ; not Bush 😛

the rest is just silly. ....but believing that Bush is a Texan is also laughable. He's a northeastern yuppie boy.

I myself never though Obama was born in Kenya or anything like that but his stepfather did list his nationality as Indonesian when he registered him at school (and his step-father provided his usual dob and Hawaii as the place). It's very likely Obama became a citizen of Indonesia when his stepdad adopted him.

His stepfather also listed Obama as a Muslim. I don't think he's a Msulim but he's not a Christian in any usual sense either since Rev Wright's ideology holds that Jesus was a black man who came to save blacks from white oppression. If people think it's outlandish some believe Obama is Muslim it's more outlandish to believe he is Christian since Rev Wrights ideology is easy to look up and it's nothing more then Marxist inspired liberation theology (no doubt a reason Wright openly espoused Marxism)

Rev Wright:

Claiming that Obama is not a Christian b/c of what Rev Wright believes is well...mind-numbingly stupid.

I don't know any easier way to say this. But you have absolutely no credibility, trying to make such an illogical, laughable connection like that.

So the fact that about 30% of the US believes these ideas, when they are clearly and factually wrong, doesn't bother anyone?

These are the people that vote and elect officials. How on earth would we expect to get decent politicians elected, when they can make up anything they want, and 30% or more of people will believe them <insert PT Barnum comment about a sucker born every minute>.

What effect will this stupidity have on our country long-term?

No one seems to mention what appears to be an obvious truth to me, that the Republicans and Fox have chosen to target a large segment of people who are predisposed to strong beliefs requiring no proof or rational thought. Namely those who feel that their religious beliefs can never be questioned or threatened.

For example, I believe that those who deny evolution do so strictly because of religious beliefs and willfully exempt themselves from considering facts and analytical thinking. Since they seem to be so comfortable with such a relationship with reality, why should their political considerations be any different? This makes them a prime target for lies and deception since facts and logic play no role in their assumptions. I believe many have recognized this and have successfully exploited it.

Don't forget the Fundie TV preachers.

Jack Van Impe spends 1/3 of his broadcast on "... The Socialist Obama, Dictator of the New World Order ... "

57% think Obama is Muslim
48% think Obama wasn't born in the US
38% think Obama is doing the same things Hitler did
24% think Obama is the "Anti-Christ"

It's almost like the Harris Poll was taken directly from one of his scripts. We call 'em Wing Nuts; the Cons call them their base.

To be fair I think most people aren't really convinced of the veracity of the poll. I'm skeptical myself, and I'm well aware of how far the right wingers have fallen off the deep end recently.
