Harris Poll - Scary Republican results

If some one called me on the phone and asked me if Obama were the anti-Christ, sure I'd probably say "YES!" just to fuck around with the person asking.

What does that mean? It means nothing.

If anyone called me on the phone to ask if I support or oppose healthcare reform, I'd tell them I oppose it, even though I don't, just to fuck around with the person asking.

I think this is the secret to why all polls are misleading. At least half the respondents are "just joking."

We went to downtown chicago to ask 100 random people if they think the general population is more rude today than a year ago. 50% said yes, 30% said no, and 20% told us to fuck off.
:awe:

You folks REALLY need to read the article to understand just how biased all this is.

Of COURSE the "poll" is going to support this guys book entitled "Wingnuts."

Come on, seriously, who (among those who actually read the article written by the guy who is pimping his book by doing this poll) is taking this serious?

Lets see, John Avlon (the author of the article) has written a new book titled " Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe is Hijacking America".

I am sure his intentions are 100% objective 🙄

Can anyone find a link to the actual harris poll?
Every other blog/"news" source sources the daily beast article.

Not saying that it is not true but I would like more information.

I agree with you, I'd like to to see the poll results as well. The article states the study will be released tomorrow, so I guess we have to wait.

Certainly, it could be biased, given the book authors premise, but if the company is relaible, they should still be accurate.

The only thing I could find is the homepage for Harris: Here

The company seems reputable, going by all the other polls it has conducted, but we'll have to wait and see. Certainly this is no "fly by night" company or a company created for just one poll.

Harris Interactive is a mainstream, non-partisan pollster that has been around since the 1960's. They have nothing to do with the author of "Wingnuts." The author believes that the poll data supports his points. That doesn't make the poll itself biased.

OP,

How about adding a similar poll in the thread? I am curious to find out how forum members about with the Harris poll results.

Reading a lot of the replies, I think you have your answer.

I really don't care one way or another if people either love, hate, or don't care about Obama. If this poll is even close to being accurate, I do care that 30-40% of republicans basically believe outright lies. That shows that they either can't or won't analyze factual data. That is scary.

Ignorance and hatred breeds trouble, and breeds people to prey on these people to gain power for themselves. Read your history books for plenty of examples of this.

Regardless of anyone's views, everyone should condemn people that won't think rationally, and believe illogical, irrational, and untrue statements. What's next, 30% of the country start saying the world is flat?

A small group of people believe that Bush was behind 9/11. These people that espouse these ideas are rightly criticized and condemned, so why aren't these similar beliefs being condemned?

Rev Al just said US voted for socialism when it voted for Obama. Rev Wright praised Marxism openly last year. Obama openly claimed Constitution was flawed since it didn't provide wealth redistribution. It's telling the libs get strident over socialist label and not over socialist actions. Obama wages open war on private sector and pursues budgets busting social programs that will tax middle class out of existence and we are supposed to believe Obama is a capitalist. Its a highly retarded situation.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! :awe:

1/2 of Americans (where?) in 2005 believe humans were created in their present form; evolution did not happen.

1/3 of Americans believe 9/11 was an inside job in 2006 (several polls taken earlier had similar numbers).

Where is the fucking poll then?
Why does every site that has this "story" source this guys article?

OK, we have to wait until tomorrow for the full poll, per the article.

But some quick google searching reveals:

Virginia

24% of Virginians don't believe Obama was born in the US, and 24% aren't sure.

New Jersey

14% of R's believe Obama is the Anti-Christ
19% of NJ residents believe Bush was behind 9/11 😱

Repblican poll

39% say Obama should be impeached
63% say he is a socialist
36% say he was not born in the US, plus 22% not sure
21% say ACORN stole the 2008 election 😱 😱 😱
53% say Palin is more qualified to be President
23% believe they should secede (????!!!)

Further research on the last prove, another statistician saying the numbers appear valid: Link

So this new poll is in line with these others, which would indicate that they should be reasonable.

You can take Obama's words in that interview literally if you want. By that, I mean you can take them as individual sentences and judge them on that basis. I can take those same sentences as a whole, and interpret them from there if I desire.

What you think he said, what I think he said or what Perknose thinks he said are our thoughts. We are free to interpret as we like. My post was directed to Thump553. He has not weighed in with his thoughts in that regard. If he feels my post is disingenuous, he's free to express his thoughts just as you have.

You, I can respect because you post here in a calm, matter of fact manner. Those that are going to rant and rave will get a like response from me if I choose to reply. There's a post about respectful posting here right now.

You'd be hard pressed to find me name-calling here. I think it's juvenile, unwarranted and is a poor way to make a point. Anyone that does not agree with my opinion is free to both disagree and weigh in at any time. I can choose to respond or not. It's the nature of the internet.

Yep, you and Beck and Limbaugh, and Hannity, and all of the other hair-on-fire wing nut blowhards can 'interpret' all you like. It doesn't mean your claims of socialism, communism, marxism, etc are valid. You scream 'wealth redistribution' but it wasn't long ago we had post after post about Obama breaking his promises by raising taxes on those who make less than $200K. Make up your minds Obama haters.

23% believe they should secede (????!!!)
This isn't unreasonable. All it means is people feel that their state and the federal government are going in opposite directions.

I bet a good 1/3 of Americans as well as 1/3 of Canadians feel that their own area should be its own nation. When a country is huge, the culture varies so much that the federal and state governments can be radically different. California has legalized medical marijuana while the federal government operating within California can arrest people with medical marijuana and put them in jail for a very long time. This actually has happened.

A fair % of the republican base will believe anything that prevents them from looking at themselves and what they believe in so fervently, despite the fact that implementation of their ideology has led us to the edge of social and economic disaster.

It's always somebody else's fault, usually the evil liberals, of course. Never admit you screwed up, never admit you've been wrong, never admit that you've been chumped by the very people and ideas you believed in most strongly... Just Deny! Deny! Deny!

Are you actually saying that people are just now realizing that Obama really is a foreign-born racist Muslim who hates the United States and is literally the anti-Christ? As though those things are all true and the people who believe them are the only sane ones? You need to get your head examined.

No. Just the hate's America and wants to destroy it. Obama has said this, he campaigned on it and he's doing it, quickly. Others have covered it already.

Hell if you ask any of my coworkers I'd say about a good 90% feel this way as well. People are starting to wake up to what he's doing. Boomerang specifically nailed it.

Supporting succession is a pretty extreme response to disagreements over these points. If this is the threshold for a civil war, every nation in the world would be in the midst of civil war at all times. A state sucedes. Then all the sudden a city or county in that state wants to secede because the state government is "going in a different direction" from the local one. It's called "anarchy."

I have no reply, but I just wanted to quote this for posterity. It's so succinct - or not.

When did the magic number move on the Obama talking points memo? I thought it was 250K.

FACT
Obama has raised significant taxes on incomes of 200K or more.

FACT
Obama has signed into a law a very bad marriage penalty, meaning taxing married/joint filers substantially more than their single combined counterparts.

What does secession have to do with civil war? The threshold for secession is nowhere near the threshold for civil war. Sure authoritarian leaders often use a secession as an excuse to kill some of their countrymen but the two are only as related as the despots of the day make them out to be.

Finally got around to listening to that youtube clip. I agree with the other poster, no where in that clip does Obama say what you claim. What he said could just have easily come from any of the professors at the Jesuit law school I attended.

In addition, that youtube clip is highly edited up, apparently in an attempt to make Obama's scholarly discussion appear as radical as possible. Heck at the end it even loops to the infamous non-plumber Joe segment. All in all, a highly doubtful piece of evidence.
