Very scary....seems the republicans are sliding farther and farther into fantasy-land. Some numbers from the poll:

57% think Obama is Muslim
48% think Obama wasn't born in the US
38% think Obama is doing the same things Hitler did
24% think Obama is the "Anti-Christ"

This is also really scary:

The full results of the poll, which will be released in greater detail tomorrow, are even more frightening: including news that high percentages of Republicans—and Americans overall—believe that President Obama is "racist," "anti-American" "wants the terrorists to win" and "wants to turn over the sovereignty of the United States to a one-world government." The "Hatriot" belief that Obama is a "domestic enemy" as set forth in the Constitution is also widely held—a sign of trouble yet to come. It's the same claim made by Marine Lance Corporal Kody Brittingham in his letter of intent to assassinate the President Obama.

It's sad that people actually believe this, what's next, arguing that the world is flat? Sad and scary.

this can't possibly be true unless there are some significant issues with how his poll was conducted.

it would literally blow my mind.

OP,

How about adding a similar poll in the thread? I am curious to find out how forum members about with the Harris poll results.

GWB was born in Connecticut, one of the original 13 colonies, so he had the US birth covered.

Most people's accusations against GWB had far more a basis in reality and involved completely different issues-intent to wreck Social Security, vanity war, asleep at the wheel regarding terrorism, bumbling of Katrina, good start in Afganistan until he abandoned the effort, tax breaks and government subsidies for the rich and influential pretty much cover the bases.

That poll, if true, is one scary indictment of the American public, GOP style.

How many Dems said the same thing about Bush (with the possible exception of his being a Muslim)?

The only thing I can think of regarding Bush at an equivalent level of irrationality is that he planned 9/11. Yet that fringe belief was never particular to democrats, but spanned the political spectrum from liberals to conservatives to libertarians (with heavy emphasis from the latter.)

most democrats seemed as convinced that Bush was going to launch a war against Iran as republicans seem convinced that Obama is going to socialize our healthcare system.

but this poll... there's absolutely no way it's not bullshit.

Beleiving that Obama would launch a war against Iran was not entirely irrational - the notion of bombing Iran to prevent it from getting nuclear weapons is relatively mainstream political thought, a little right of center at most. Believing that Obama wasn't born in the U.S., however, is sheer lunacy.

The think about the poll I don't trust is that Republicans delight in being assholes and idiots all rolled into one. They would swear to that shit even though they didn't believe it because their buddies might call them a liberal. The only safe place to be with assholes is to be the biggest one there is.

You see how well I get along with them.

Isn't believing that Obama is the anti-Christ all about self-hate? You're off your game on this one. :)

Rev Al just said US voted for socialism when it voted for Obama. Rev Wright praised Marxism openly last year. Obama openly claimed Constitution was flawed since it didn't provide wealth redistribution. It's telling the libs get strident over socialist label and not over socialist actions. Obama wages open war on private sector and pursues budgets busting social programs that will tax middle class out of existence and we are supposed to believe Obama is a capitalist. Its a highly retarded situation.

While I don't agree that Obama is a socialist, because it I think political ideology is a spectrum from right to left rather than a simple dichtomy, and I think is a polarizing label, that issue is not what really concerns me in the poll. Who is a socialist or not is to some degree a matter of opinion and definition. The more disturbing aspects of the poll are half of repubs believing Obama wasn't born in the U.S., is a Muslim, supports terrorism, etc. This to me suggests that paranoid and conspiritorial thinking are becoming commonplace in the republican party. It doesn't seem like we're looking at a small radical fringe any more, but rather mainstream conservatism.

Things are only get worse the further Obama gets into his term.

As for poll, he may not have been born in the U.S., he's certainly not a natural born citizen (his father wasn't a U.S. Citizen), he could be the anti-Christ. I would say he's more like Joseph Stalin or Mussolini than Hitler, since he hates the entire citizenry, rather than a few groups of people. He does want a oneworld government, and he's going to launch a war against Iran after framing them, and he'll bring back the draft, I'm sure.

He did let his daughters be baptized, so I don't really think he's a muslim. His maternal bloodline is blue and Christian, so he's Christian by birth.

Just more examples of either party (though I do think the Republicans are far more guilty of this) being more than willing to "win" at all costs rather than doing what is best for this country.
