This is being reported by Reuters. I don't have a link on the web (yet).

I just check CNN and they have it as breaking news.

I guess she got scared of being asked questions ;)

I have mixed emotions. I don't think she was qualified, but I now fear they will appoint someone extreme.

You know, Charles Krauthammer suggested that the best way to handle this was to withdraw based upon this claimed stalemate over Whitehouse documents ... It seems they did just that.

Man, its going to be an interesting day as the leak investigation is supposedly going to come to a close.

This is going to be fun. Now a much more conservative choice will be nominated and all the Libs will really be crying.

Talk about a lame duck.

Personally, I think this was a calculated nomination and withdrawl. I have felt all along this was just a token nomination based on their years of friendship. She was going to withdrawl before confimation hearings all along. High five to Zendari.

Harriet Miers withdraws as Supreme Court Nominee

"The White House said he blamed her withdrawal on calls in the Senate for the release of internal White House documents that the administration has insisted were protected by executive privilege."

Well, that can happen when you nominate your attorney for the Supreme Court....

Either Krauthammer is prophetic or the WH was just looking for a good excuse and he gave it to them.

Neo-conservatives are estastic I'm sure, because Bush will be sure to nominate a real reactionary next time around.

Hit the 'Re-Set Button'

She wasn't 'Feaky' enough for the Conservative Right ?

Maybe we'll be 'Blessed with Ashcroft'
or
Pat Roberts - a man of the cloth ?

That guy from St. Louis - John C. Danforth 'the Deacon'
(Actually - this guy might even be the best candidate in the nation)

Just don't give us Alberto Gonzales - the Shill con carne.

Maybe a possibility is to appoint Tom DeLay - just 'Pre-Pardon' him - like the GOP in Ohio did with their corruption..
Hmmm - does that qualify Rove ?

This is probably bad news for people to the left. The real right wingers were always upset about this nomination, including some prominent conservatives. Now, Bush will likely nominate a more competant person who actually knows a thing or two about the judiciary. I am hoping its not a right winger, but a moderate who will not be predictable as to how he or she is going to vote.

Your post is a tad disjointed. The best possible outcome for people to the left is that Bush nominates a competent moderate. The court already has an incompetent ideologue (Thomas). It's highly unlikely he will nominate a total tool or a right-of-center raving loon.

yep it was definitely the paper trail:confused:
"I am uneasy about where we are."

-Senator Jeff Sessions

"I certainly go into this with concerns." -Senator Norm Coleman

"I do have difficulty with this nominee.'' -Senator Trent Lott

"There is an awful lot of Republican senators who are saying we are going to wait and see." -Senator John Thune

I'm confused. How is it Bush can refuse TWO resignations from the chief manager of the debacle in Iraq but readily accepted Miers withdrawal? If he really believes she is the right person for the Court, why not stand up and fight? If she doesn't want to stand up and fight . . . what happened to the pit bull in size 6 shoes?
