Nothing says love like a SiS 745 chipset. :D

If this thing were in a person's cube next to me I'd be quietly laughing to myself all day, then sharing the funny with everyone else at the office via IM.

Think about how she's going to tell her friends:

"um yea, my boyfriend proposed to me."
"oh congrats baby, how'd he do it?"
"um, he decorated a computer case."
**blank looks on friend's faces, quickly followed by laughter**

"Okay, fifty bucks says he brings a laptop on the honeymoon!"
"I'm in on that!"
"Hey Chief, you want a piece of this? Fifty bones a buy-in."
"Sh!t yeah. Fifty on that, and another fifty he runs a play-by-play of the sex. All two minutes!"

Well, people, obviously if he has been with her for 5 years, she obviously knows of his geekness, right?

Original idea yes but I don't like it.

Koing

I can't say as *I* would have ever done anything like that. Well, obviously I didn't do anything remotely like that.

But it's a highly personal thing. A lot of people probably would not have agreed with my choice to propose using a spider web made of yarn on Halloween, but she loved it, and that's what counts. Not my choice, but it's amusing to hear someone call it pathetic when the best plan they can cook up is going to a nice restaurant.

She actually specifically stated that she was glad I didn't do something publicly embarassing or cliche.....like at a restaurant.

Sorry but a case moded pc to ask a girl to marry you is almost as pathetic as creating a mix cd for a girl on a first date and wrapping it with cat5 cable. Some of you people need to step way back from the fvcking computer and yank the cord while you still have a chance.

God, thats an amazing idea. She'd remember that for the rest of her life with pride, wouldn't she? :disgust:

This guy thinks up something totally original for his fiancee, puts loads of work into it to make it look damn impressive, and catches her completely by surprise. That's got to mean a great deal to her, and we know she liked it because she said yes. She'll certainly have a good tale to tell for a long time ;)

You, on the other hand, think this is sad. You are so cool that if you were to propose to someone, you'd... um... take them to a restaurant.... and... like....'buy them a rock'. Wow. I'm sure women everywhere are just dreaming of the day an imaginative, original guy like you proposes to them.

nice ownage.

oh, and that mod is sweet.

The way I see it, spending all sorts of money and overly exotic plans on a proposal is a waste. Yes, a waste. That isn't to say that I wouldn't do anything for the girl I love, but I fail to see how building a damn computer and putting some lace and stuff on it says "I love you." more than saying.. "I love you."

No matter how much it's done, getting down on one knee will NEVER be old and NEVER be cliche. If they love you enough to be proposed to, then you don't need to impress them. The only people who would be impressed are the people who aren't her, and they don't matter in the situation. Either she loves you, or she doesn't and building someone a computer, paying to have what you want to say on a jumbotron, or making any enormous plans won't change how she feels about you. I'm not saying you HAVE to take her out to a restaurant, you HAVE to blah blah blah, but even in the middle of a park on a nice spring day would be beautiful. Frankly, going all out like that (I feel) backs them into a corner. How bad would she feel if you spent a month working on a computer just to have her say "no."?

dpm, you are an IDIOT for thinking that a girl wouldn't remember the day she was proposed to for the rest of her life just because it wasn't a three-ring-circus of of events to do it. Sorry buddy, more power to you if that's what you want to do, but I won't be doing it.

That depends...some people here consider weekly IM's to a girl 2000 miles away as 'dating' :)

Being the fact he hid this from her has me questioning just how much time they spend together :)

It's a great mod....however there as been a lot of impressive work done by those of a non-standard mental nature.

Getting down on one knee is old and cliche. But I prefer to view it is as a battle-proven approach. ;) I don't get all the naysayers on this board though. From what I can observe, both liked the way in which the question was asked, so what's the problem? Everyone's happy(except for the bitchy ATOTers), so more power to him. I think it's a neat case, and should be submitted to pimprigs.com for more public consumption.

That is perhaps the saddest/geekiest/most disturbing casemod I've ever seen.

Only thing I could imagine that would be worse is a modded cell phone:(

I am not saying this young lady didn't find it adorable. However, time spent to do a proposal != to a good one.

Say someone took 3 months to create a life-sized replica of how their Financee would look on their wedding day (the ring on her finger)....

Only problem they used cheese to sculpt this.....

Now that can take a lot of time, but not something many girls would enjoy talking about.

Somehow "Ahh johnny is so cute, he proposed to me by building me a wedding computer" would probably be followed with

"a what?!? You sure that wasn't built for him?"

Just my observations/opinions, I have only been engaged three times :)

Case 'modding' for anything other than functionality, seems stupid to me. But, if his girlfriend is into it, then I think the whole thing was a fine idea, and executed pretty thoroughly and quickly, from what I read.

I think they'll be together for the duration, which is more than can be said for half the people who posted in this topic. Good Luck to both of them!

He didn't spend "all sorts of money," in fact the post specifically states that it was built from spare parts he had laying around. All he had to buy was the crafty crap, and that stuff doesn't cost all that much.
The computer isn't supposed to say "I love you," that's the human's job. It's just a unique context surrounding the I love you.
No matter how much it's done, getting down on one knee will NEVER be old and NEVER be cliche.
It's a rather bold and baseless assumption that he DIDN'T get down on one knee. What makes you think he didn't?
If they love you enough to be proposed to, then you don't need to impress them. The only people who would be impressed are the people who aren't her, and they don't matter in the situation.
It's just fun. It's a story you can tell your grandchildren. It doens't have anything to do with impressing anyone. Spoken like some who has never been there Nice work.
Different strokes for different folks. Who gets to say what is "beautiful?"
Frankly, going all out like that (I feel) backs them into a corner. How bad would she feel if you spent a month working on a computer just to have her say "no."?
Does anyone actually propose without actually knowing in advance what the answer is going to be? Everyone I know already had talked about it, and the ring and proposal was merely a formality. I would say very few people just pop the question out of the blue.
Again, spoken like someone who has never been there.

Starting to sound like a broken record, but, spoken like someone who has never been there. I used to claim I was above all that romantic bullshit, but when you meet someone that is so special you would rip the stars out of the sky for her if only you could figure out how, suddenly just going to a restaurant and handing her a piece of jewelry just doesn't do her justice.

I have known people to get 'no'

I have also known that to be changed later on....

Funny how a guy with over 12,000 posts is telling someone with a combined 14 on both boards to step away from the computer. I love hypocrites. ;)

Good job 007. That was completely original. Good luck to you both.
