my vote goes for Laser Invasion. I could never get passed the stage where you have to fly the helicopter into (through) a military complex where you have to dodge massive bolts. simply impossible for an 8-bit first person simulator. but it was one of the best games...

I also could never beat Home Alone, Mega Man, or Battletoads (the part where you have to ride those hover-crafts through that LONG-ASS IMPOSSIBLE LEVEL).

Faxandu was awesome, but not hard at all. I whipped it out a couple of summers ago and beat it start to finish pretty darn easily.
