Hardest Muscle To Develop?

Of all the muscle groups to condition with weights... which is the hardest to develop <visually>?

I believe that it has to be the abdominal muscles... which parts do you guys have the most difficulty w/?

Hah, hmm.. dunno how to approach this, but I'm sure you guys know what I mean... the muscle groups that I am referring to are Biceps, triceps, back, pecs, quads, gluts, etc...

Hardest muscle groups for me is my traps. The rest develop nicely. I am on a 6month furlong from weights so I can gain some poundage. I currently weigh 180 would like to make it to 200.

what about obliques? they're a bunchof little nasty core muscles. I don't think many excersises can terget them alot.

The muscle that some of the people around here obviously have a hard time developing is the "brain"......

this is a joke and not intended to slam anyone in particular....🙂

really depends on personal characteristics: i have very low body fat so my abs get cut as hell easily, but it's hard for me to build up my chest because of a bad shoulder (can't bench)

as for everyone in general.... i would say the tibialis; it's the muscle in front of your shin... i've only seen one person with a really defined one of those (some chick w/ nice legs)

legs - or so it would seem. everybody focuses on the "visual" areas like abs, arms, and chest. they look like lollipops. 🙂

which you could get away with as long as you don't have to take your pants off in front of a girl...

I am exactly the opposite, my whole upper body is slow to develop, but my quads, hamstrings and calves get huge in a matter of days when I work out.

Went on vacation a couple of weeks ago, and we did a lot of walking. My calves grew so much I couldnt get my tall socks over them.

Probably, as everything else in life, your genetic make-up has more to do with it than anything.

I find it fairly easy to build my upper body; biceps and chest, but my midsection is the hardest to develop, maybe because I have some extra layers of insulation there but its still damn hard. My legs have always been fairly muscular and strong without having to work out much.

It all comes down to genetics as Sluggo pointed out.

Nope, I didn't change my diet. But then, like bigd480 I had very low body fat to begin with. It really didn't take that much work for me either (but perhaps that's relative). I would just do two sets of 50 situps with a couple of 10lb barbells at the Y every other day.

for me i would have to say shoulders... i'm not having any problems with my chest, lats, bi's, tri's or abs.. but most of this is based on genetics so wut's easy for someone to develop might be hard for others...

The hardest muscles to develope for ANYONE regardless of genetics are the forearms and the calfs. They are built up of the most dense muscle fibers, making them the hardest to tear apart (and grow thereafter). We use those 4 muscles the most during everyday life. Everytime you take a step, each calf muscle is shifting all of your bodyweight independently. Anytime you move your fingers, your forarms muscles are contracting and releasing. Which muscle is the strongest? The jaw. But I doubt my jaw could bench press 345 lbs. The brain is an organ not a muscle, even though it is very similar. The brain grows "stronger" by "excersize" (learning).

BTW, Im 18 and have been lifting now for five years. Im extremely cut, no body fat at all. But its incredibly hard for me to get bigger and gain weight. I'm 5'10" and weigh 155. Should I just increase my workout regimine and pile on the protein supplements?

The stronger you get your forearms, the more |337 you get at CS! >=)

<< Im extremely cut, no body fat at all >>

that's not possible. and if so, it's really bad.

anyway, i know you're exaggerating =P

i don't like the idea of supplements really. eat more meat. or beans or yogurt... but meat is better because i said so =)

your metabolism may be such that you can't effectively do so, or your diet is such you cannot do so. if that is the case, your metabolism will change... in which case, you will gain weight.

working out more does not help you gain weight though =P
