MDK 2 :(

I didn't find that too hard, at least the PC version. Some of Kurt's lockball sequences in his last section could get tricky, and the Max ending was fairly tough, but those were fairly small parts of the game.

On a side note, those bomb disabling puzzles in this were great. That has to be one of the most unique puzzle ideas I've seen in a 3D game.

i didn't either ... but i *hated* the jumping ... and lack of anytime save :p
-many of the MDK2 concepts and ideas were cool and way ahead of their time. i remember playing it on my Rage Fury32 and the GFX weren't bad either.

Yeah, there were too many repetitive jumping and lockball shooting puzzles with Kurt, but the sequences for the other two characters were great. MDK2 did have anytime save on the PC though. (I still have it installed and just checked)

oops ..

ok ... but i remember playing it on my Rage Fury32 and the graphics were really colorful. i loved playing as the multiple gun wielding dog [Max?]

The Doctor got tedious :p
-but the 3 endings were cool ... inside the Boss destroying his guts!
--same game?
:D

You still have it installed?
:Q

i still have it ... will it run on XP or Vista?

It works great on XP with my X1900. No compatibility mode or anything needed. I'm guessing it should be fine with Vista as well.

I liked the Doctor sequences the best with all the wacky puzzles and jokes. The "wash your hands" bit in the bathroom was classic. :D

cool ... thanks ... i might revisit some of MDK2
-recently, i am starting to enjoy REplaying some of my games [although i rarely finish twice]

Yup getting good enough to dogfight the better pilots (and win on a regular basis) is extremely difficult. Hardest level (spot) of a FPS game would have to go with Pavlov's house in COD1 on hardest mode.

QFT, this game was impossible.

This is generally caused by the low default FOV in that game. I think there is a way to change it to a more normal setting.

I remember hard levels more than hard games:

Some notables:
Super Mario 3: World 8, Airship level. f'in broke my controller over that one.

Medal of Honor, Allied Assault - Sniper level, on hard. Of course the Germans can see you through 3 trees and head shot you, no problem.

Company of Heroes, Hard, Hill 192 - I think- when you have to defend the hill against German counterattacks? That took me awhile.

Diablo II, Expansion on Nightmare. F'in annoying when the "resistant to everything" fire-breathing munchkins can kill you with one breath.

There are others, but sleep is calling...

I didn't think STALKER was too hard. But someone mentioned Operation Flashpoint, and I'd have to agree... you get hit twice and you die, that wasn't fun at all.

I didn't find that part too bad on the second playthrough, although you have to go through it slowly (IIRC there is a distance where you can make out their outline but they can't see you). I remember the very last bit being particularly hard though (on hard difficulty), the point where you reach the base exit and have to get into a train. The huge stream of respawning enemies meant that you couldn't take them all down and had to make a run for the train, and just had to get lucky not to get hit.

Completely forgot about that. It's not that you get hit twice and you die that made it so hard, it was that they made it so that you had exactly ONE save per mission (think they added more really really late or it was modded). Most of the time, I had to replay an entire half-hour to hour cause I saved at a bad time or too far back. Many times I just said screw it and restarted the whole mission so I could move the save "up".

I played it a decent amount, then I got to that level where you where behind enemy lines and they were slowly coming your way. I just couldn't do that. I remember it was quite an accomplishment for me when I beat the demo for the game. My whole squad was dead and I was driving around in one of the enemy's car things. Then I hit *something* (bump!) and won. It turned out to be a guy prone in my driving path.

Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania. It isn't that they were hard. They were cheap. Birds and medusa heads spawned just as you jumped over a pit.

I grabbed the Oddworld games off Steam a few weeks ago. That's some hard crap too. In fact, all of those types of games are hard. Prince of Persia, Out of this World, Flashback and Blackthorne all kick my ass. I don't have the patience to replay games like I did when I was eight and mastered Mega Man 2.

Star Control II was hard just because of the size of the game. I got it free with a magazine in about '96, and fought to get it to run. I printed off 12 pages of map and kept it on my bed for months, taped together with notes all over it. I don't know how many times the Kohr-Ah destroyed Earth before I figured that one out. That's the great kind of hard, though, it keeps you coming back for more.

I coulda sworn my brothers and I beat TMNT when we were 8-12 years old. It was so much easier with the Game Genie, but I'm almost positive we did it at least once without it.

That darned seaweed....

If not for the damn seaweed at the end of the first level, that game would be so much better. Funny thing is if you cheat and manage to get past it, the rest of the game is relatively easy by comparison.
Same thing with Battletoads. The jet board levels are ridiculously hard, but once you clear them its not bad.

for me it's GRID. the control is a pain in the a** to get right. not a very easy game to handle unless maybe you got a wireless driving wheel.

Konami did make a lot of horrible NES games.
-Bayou Billy was a shitty Double Dragon rip off
-Metal Gear had a horribly broken continue system where you needed to type in the password every time you die (watch AVGN's video for more info)
-Solid Snake was the same garbage as Metal Gear
-TMNT was fun in the early parts of the game, but it's basically impossible
-Castlevania had the most frustrating controls in history
-Mission Impossible was impossible; how ironic
-Star Trek 25th Anniversary was explained by AVGN
-Skate or Die and Ski or Die sucked because the controls were so awkward
-Nightshade had the worst fighting in history. HVGN said this game is good, but he's wrong
-Top Gun was impossible (watch AVGN's video for details)

It's hard to say what the hardest game is. I'll say Top Gun 2 for the NES is the hardest game. I can't even beat the first level in that game. Fire up your emulator and try it yourself.
