Don't take offense to the bastardized quote. At the time I was raw and ready, locked, cocked and ready to rock as were most of us.

beautifully written 🙂

deepest gratitude and respect to all the veterans who have protected out country

Yes, but I did have an E5 who occupied the actual position called FO. I can't remember what the real job title was for the 2LT FO was though. I just remember that it was called the FO spot. How much time did you spend calling in rounds overlooking Signal Mountain in Ft. Sill? I always wanted to blow up the block house, but I'm sure everyone else who attended FO training at Ft. Sill did too.

Actually, if you get down to it, I also was a Unit Clerk and a HCO in FDC prior to OCS.

I rarely had an Officer on my track. When I did, he acted mostly as a Battalion Liaison and helped pre plan operations. I was an FO as an E1 to E5 and served as a Fire Support Sergeant (E6 slot) as an E5. The FSS had 3 FOs, 3 RTOs and a driver.
I spent 2 years at Ft Sill and 2 years in Hanau, FRG.

My sincere thanks go to all those who put their lives on the line to help keep everyone here, and elsewhere, safe.

Oh Back to the subject,

My Ex-wife's dad was one of the first to land on Iwo Jima. (she had old parents) I had one great uncle killed who was a B-17 Ball turrent gunner and another great uncle who flew P-51 mustang's.

More recently I have two uncles who were in Nam.

Now that you mention it, I believe the E5 was my RTO and I was the FO. We must have had a completely different TO&E than you did.

My thanks.

I would imagine you did have a different TO&E. They'd never expect any hard work out of an Officer. 😉
^^^^ kidding 🙂
