I'm not a gun owner nor am I very bright but allowing the carrying of guns in bars just sounded like a dumb idea.

Republican Rep Curry Todd sponsored the passage of this law. A not so funny thing happed to 'ole Curry. One of these days common sense will take precident over ideology.

The sponsor of the law that made it legal to carry a gun into bars in Tennessee is facing charges of possession of a handgun while under the influence and drunken driving.

Rep. Curry Todd, a Collierville Republican, was pulled over in Nashville late Tuesday, according to court documents. Police said he failed a roadside sobriety test and refused to take a Breathalyzer test. A loaded .38-caliber gun was found in a holster stuffed between the driver's seat and center console.

Guns have been allowed in bars for decades/centuries in many, many states, all without significant problems.

You take guns into bars for the same reason you take them anyplace...to use in defense of yourself or others when necessary. The right to stay alive doesn't stop at the door to a drinking establishment.

That doesn't make any sense.

The odds of me staying alive increase exponentially when the people around me arn't packing heat.

So what would of prevented him from getting drunk in the bar and then hoping into his car with that firearm and driving around again? According to your article the guy was stopped out side the bar and in his car.

The odds of me staying alive increase exponentially when the people around me arn't packing heat while I commit acts of criminality. Of course if I don't act like a douche-bag then odds are nothing will happen and my gun hysteria will cease.

No, they actually don't, as proved by pretty much every piece of research out there. The reason is that people who carry LEGALLY are inherently more law-abiding than even law enforcement officers. In other words, if the people around you are legally carrying then you're about as safe as it's possible to be.

Edited to clarify what should have been obvious to anyone with a 5th grade reading comprehension level.

If someone shoots me in the face how does it help if I'm carrying a gun?

You Americans and your crazy guns laws make me lol.

100% of all people shot were around someone carrying a gun.

What does any of that have to do with anything said???

You foreigners and your ignorance and irrationality make me weep.

Maybe logic and reasoning are not part of upper end of the Australian educational system and all books based on such concepts banned and burned?

True. Unfortunately smart people can be easily made stupid by adding alcohol

Which is why I stay away from bars and night clubs.

Nothing good comes from them as I've seen way to many bar and club fights break out of over nothing. Furthermore relationships formed at these locations are fleeting one-night stands usually with the potential of a life time of misery (i.e. STD's, child support, etc)

You couldn't destroy a soaking wet piece of single ply toilet paper in a gun control debate.

Comparing countries of similar wealth, weak handgun laws lead to more deaths.

Q.E.D.

/Thread.

This doesnt even need to be argued. Its an axiom. Only dumbass gun nuts are the ones trying to argue.

The failure in your "statement" could be nominated for the next Wonder of the World. A small fact you seem to not be aware of is that most of the gun crime in the United States happens in the areas with the strictest gun control. The idea that more laws is somehow going to stop gun crime is the center point of your failure.

Hmm. You seem to misunderstand the difference between a country and a state.

They are not the same thing.
