What are you guys thoughts on Hank Moody from Californication? I'm at the trial on season 4 currently.

No spoilers please or give aways.

first few seasons were good, like every show out there, it gets exponentially worse with each new season

The show is just bad and it wasn't really all that good to begin with. First season was passable but it just goes to shit from there. Fucking horrible writing and even worse characters.

Unless you just have a huge hard-on for stand-in butts and boobs with occasionally some celebrity showing one or the other, I really don't know why you'd watch this show, and for that just watch clips people put on Youtube and elsewhere and save yourself the time.

It's like they took the super awkward situation formula from Nip/Tuck and then completely removed all sense from the characters and most of the real outrageousness. There's very little real motivation for almost every action from every character that isn't just contrived to give them a reason to make awkward scenes. And there's no actual consequences for Hank (or really any of the other characters although they don't even do much compared to Hank) constantly continuously fucking over everyone in his life. If they'd actually have come up with decent characters or a fitting setting, I think it might would be an ok guilty pleasure show (something along the lines of True Blood, which this show basically is if you remove the vampire angle). Not good but like I said a guilty pleasure. But because they didn't it just highlights how ridiculously terrible it is. They constantly hang things like money problems, jail, personal injury, and other things but they never actually follow through, oftentimes it's resolved 2 seconds later by basically them just going "eh, let's just drop it". For instance, a minor one, I remember one episode where he got his ass kicked by several guys outside a strip club and had a huge cut on his ribs and some other problems. A scene like 5 minutes later and no sign of any harm at all. Things like that happen pretty much every single episode, while there's also a major overall storyline for the whole season that gets similar treatment (they build up to it and then just wipe their ass with it).

The show would be a billion times more interesting if they'd just made Hank into some god or something and he's just playing in a sandbox and has the power to reset it. That'd at least explain how none of the characters ever change and keep letting him do the same shit to them.

Watch the first and last episodes of the first season and that's all that this show was ever going to offer and the best it was going to be. It would have made for a decent 1-2 hour long movie, unfortunately it's been padded out into 40-50 hours worth of bad TV.

Hank is an asshole, not even a remotely compelling character. Charlie Runkle and the T/A were the only reasons to watch.

I am nearing the end of season 4 myself. Neither Hank or his on again/off again girlfriend Karen are sympathetic characters but I don't think that really matters.

If the creators are trying to make some sort of social commentary or be remotely realistic they failed. However, I do enjoy the humor especially with the supporting characters.

I can see why some would not find the show appealing but overall I am enjoying it. To each their own.

Hank is a colossal douchebag. The chick that plays Karen is one of the worst actresses in history. Apart from rolling her eyes, she does no acting in the entire series. The actress who plays his daughter is every bit as bad.

The Runkles (and Stu Beggs) are a kick in the ass and the only reason to watch the show.

Zombifacation Who??? And really, discussing a specific character on a specific show that hardly anyone watches is about as intellectually stimulating as talking about killing off a Simpsons cartoon character. Aren't there rabid fan sites for that sort of drivel? Seriously, if I was a mod in OT and had to read all this innane crap that gets posted, they would have to lock me up in a rubber room in a straight jacket after just a few days exposure.

Good thing you're not a mod, although I seriously doubt that any of them ready every post in the forum.

On the other hand, it must genuinely suck if you have so little going on in your life that YOU read every post in this forum.

I already said I didn't. But some OT trolls out there do, I'm sure. And I guess you conveniently didn't notice the 2 fan boy crap topics the OP posted, either.

You're a tool. It's an OT forum. You don't want to read something, skip it or fuck off. And maybe think about not posting when you're drunk.

Sounds like you're the angry drunk tool. I rarely drink, and even then, I don't do it to get drunk. So what's your excuse?

And I can comment on whatever I like. Take your own advice. You don't like it, you don't comment, you obviously stupid hypocrite.

Ha pretty much true, she went off to Europe in season 6 I wonder if she'll come back

Starting to feel like that, season 6 hasn't been all that funny.

Well Karen was just replaced by this redhead. That's all you need to keep me interested.

Good show, just finished it, it started losing appeal after season 4, became too much of the same old thing. But they still managed to keep it funny and Hank still kept most viewers hooked although he was fighting a losing battle. Good place to end it too, I hope they don't draw it out for another season, would be too much.
