Hangover help!

My sister went out last night and ended up praying to the porcelain goddess all night long. I feed her bread and water and she eventually went to sleep.

Now she's suffering through at work and she's about to have her lunchtime. She called and wants to know what food will help her survive the day and maybe make her feel a little better.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would not help her, but recommend something that will worsen it. Tell her to have coffee or caffeinated drinks. It's good for her to learn early how bad hangovers can be. It may take her 2, it may take her 20 or even 200, but eventually she'll learn her limits of drinking.

Thanks for the tips.

And she usually doesn't get drunk. This is the first time i've seen her drunk in a couple years and i think remembering what hangovers are like probably will keep her drinking at her limits. Plus she's my sister i don't want to repunish her, i want to help her.

Since hangovers are caused by dehydration, get an IV of D5 1/2 normal saline with 20mg KCl at 100cc/hour. It's the common concoction for dehydration treatment in pediatrics, and most definately helps hangovers. Of course, you'll have to have a doctor help you out, but that's my recommendation.

I suggest - greasy food like a burger (even though I'm sure she does NOT feel like eating now), a milkshake, some gatorade (or better yet pedialyte? - you know the stuff they give to babies and kids who have the $hits). Also a lot of water. Oh ya, I also recommend ibuprofen. A lot of times these things will help ease the pain but the only real cure for me is just time.

The best cure for hangovers is more alcohol.

I concur. Keep drinking alcohol until your brain swells and you die. Once you're dead, no more hangovers.

Drinking in the morning can make you feel better because you stop the metabolism of methanol and the formation of formaldehyde because you've got alcohol in your system again. That could help the withdrawal that you are having.

Edit: removed snide remark

And that helps the dehydration how? It doesn't. Hangovers are caused by dehydration, drinking more alcohol leads to further dehydration.

Thanks for all the help!

I've relayed all the posts and due to location and time. She is heading to Burger King to grease it up (and drink lots of water). She wanted to try tomato stuff but she didn't have anything nearby that could help.

She says to say thanks a bunch! (except to the people who told her to drink till she's dead and to drink caffeine) 🙂
