Handicap parking spots

You were parked - even if the car was running. You're clearly in the wrong and should have parked in a legit spot or circled around. Be thankful that you weren't ticketed.

Assbag.

Basically yelling at me (raised voice) about how that isnt a parking spot and how i'm not handicapped and waiting doesnt give me the right to be sitting there. Note that the drive i'm at is only wide enough for 1 1/2 cars to pass through at a time so I figure i'm better off not being in the way and being able to move if someone needs the parking spot.

What do you guys think. Did the guy have a right to be a jerk about it? He didnt even ask questions and just started going off about how I wasnt handicapped and that wasnt a parking spot.

Quick edit: Is it actually illegal to WAIT, not park in the hashed lines on the ground if your car is on and you are in it??

EDIT: Ther were no other spots. The only other option was block traffic. Thru traffic area is only wide enough for 1 1/2 cars or so. So for me to wait in the thru traffic area would mean I'm blocking traffic.

EDIT: No vehicles were using handicapped spots so if someone was to pull into one then I would know they needed me to move.

you are wrong. but let me get this straight, there was not a single parking space in the whole lot? none 1?

You wanna park in the handicap spot? Go cut off your leg. No parking spot? Drive around. Don't wanna waste gas? Walk.

actually, you could have driven around until the person you're waiting for came out. so there are other options than to do something illegal just because it's convenient.

FTW!

You were in the wrong.

But yes, the cop was being an ass from what you explained. God everyone posting in here calling you out and screaming at you for "DOING SO WRONG!" acts like they are Mr. Angel on the road ...

Riiiight...because taking a parking spot from someone with a physical disability because you're lazy is just sooooo similar to going 5 over the speed limit

OP = WRONG

That said, I think handicap spots are pretty stupid in some places. Like an Amusement Park. WTF is that all about.

And I really hate the fact that most spots are used by

- 350lbs+ lardasses whose real handicap is laziness and use a bulldozer for a fork
- old people who can't see well enough to be driving in the first place

and i'm SSSOOO sure the fastest over the speed limit you ever have gone is 5 MPH ... right

all i'm saying is that i know what he's saying. it is very easy to move out of the way in the situation he was in if you see a car w/handicap tags or the thing hanging from the rear view mirror of a car coming in your vicinity. Not to mention, he said there were 2 handicap parking spots there.

regardless, the cop didn't have to be an ass about it. as you can tell from the OP, he wasn't even aware it was illegal so he didn't know he was doing something wrong.

If you aren't aware that parking in a handicapped spot is illegal then you shouldn't be driving.

And I definitely speed over 5 mph at times. Remind me again where I said I was a perfect driver? My driving habits have nothing to do with the OP being wrong. There are certain driving violations that just rub people the wrong way, and parking in a handicapped spot is one of those things. Just like in jail the arsonists, thieves, etc are fine - but the guy in for raping kids gets beat down.

I can appreciate street cops that are asses when approaching law breakers. He is what protects your community. You don't want a nancy boy doing their job.

Gotta love the entitlement, LMAO @ "only option".

As posted above you had options, you just didn't like them.

Oh, and the cop busted your balls because he wasn't writting you the ticket. That's called "getting the lecture" instead of "getting the ticket", be thankfull, sometimes you get both. You got the "free" option.

What's so hard about driving around the block once or twice while waiting for her to come out?

You are not allowed to put your car there.
You may have been stuck in a crappy situation, and that sucks, but it happens 🙁
The cop was supposed to yell at you so you would move your car.
You are lucky that de did not ticket you.

when i had hurt my ankle, and was on crutches (and had a handicapped tag) I would park on those lines in order to get to class when the handicapped spots were full. I know its illegal but I could barely hobble to class anyway, and what good were those lines doing?

Never got a ticket, even from the close-watching 'transportation services' at Texas A&M

Handicapped parents can't have kids that want to go to amusement parks?

Those lines are to make sure there is space for the handicap person to get into and out of the car without having to snake around like you have to do when two cars are parked really close side-by-side.

Yeah, cause the handicapped guy who has a lift, and jumps from front to back (they are very manuverable in spaces they can use their arms) is going to open the side door, yell at you to move so he can get out of his car.....

just circle, like every other poor bastard who doesn't want to go in.

and to the guy with the crutches...a handicap violating the handicap parking rules is a bit different.

only thing I hate worse, are people who use handicap tags when they don't need them, like my Grandpa (can't walk well) has one, and my aunt uses it when she visits, even if he isn't with her.

OP is so owned. tried to get sympathy on an internet forum for something he clearly did wrong. pathetic.

Friend had his engine running and was sitting in his car, waiting for another employee from his store that was a few feet away, when he got a ticket. It was $300 I think. So, I would say yes you are wrong.
It was your own lazy ass that chose not to drive around and wait somwhere else. The guy may have been a jerk, but he had every reason to be. You're just lucky he didn't give you a ticket.

I have a kid in a wheelchair. I use those lines to wheel the chair over to the car door so that he can get in & out. Very important.

Look, you don't have to understand it. Just respect it, okay??

On a lighter note: Recently I stopped by Dunkin Donuts on a busy suburban Saturday morning, small busy strip mall. As I walk out, a dude in a Lexus pulls into the handicap space - right in front of the cop sitting there getting donuts. Cop politely tells him to move. Lexus guy says

"Hey! I AM Handicapped! I'm handicapped by not being able to find an empty space!"

Cop didn't like that at all . . .

you are correct... there were none available in the whole lot... it was in front of a dorm at 11:50 pm... very few people come and go once they get a close spot

hahahah i would have loved to see the outcome to that.

on a side note the OP is wrong.

I have a sticker myself. I have arthritis where in the winter it really limits the amount i walk, write etc. While i have the sticker i rarly use it. But i get annoyed when i see a 400lb women get out to waddle up to the store after parking there. That is one person that NEEDS to be parking in the back!

Also does the Gym really need to have them?

The slashed lines next to the handicap parking spot are there for a reason. NOT for your lazy ass to sit there.

They are there for people that need to use wheelchairs. The lifts come out the side of the van. Right where those striped lines are.

Next time drive around. pitty you didn't get a ticket. maybe then you would understand.
