This should be fun. Hopefully they modified the netcode so dialup users can play decently enough. M+K > Controller. I haven't played the Xbox version so I'm somewhat excited about this.

Hey, I'm finally playing Baldur's Gate 2 this year, a 2-year-old game is still fresh if you've never played it :)

And no way I'm paying $179 + $50/game for an xbox when I have a perfectly good PC. Especially since I'm upgrading soon to a P4 3.0 and 9800pro :)

That 9800 pro alone is more then a XBOX 2 games and an extra controller. But still, Halo on PC should and will be better then XBOX Halo hands down.

I played the Halo Beta 1.5 and it brought my PC (Intel 2.6GHZ, 128MB TI4200, 1GB PC2700, Maxtor 120GB 8mb HD) almost to a crawl at high resolution (1280x1024). Personally, I like the Xbox version much better.

Couldn't agree more. I have played the hell out of that game.
Not everybody can afford $200+ for just one game y'know. And before you ask, no, I'm not really interested in anything else exclusively on Xbox.

<angry beta tester mode>

Yes, because leaked beta versions intended solely as progress markers are TEH BESTEST SIGNS EVAR of actual retail game performance.

You are the kind of dumbass that the PR guys have nightmares about, spreading your ignorant FUD and misguided views of a stolen illegal beta all around the internet like an infection.

Kill yourself.

Minimum:
Microsoft® Windows® 98SE/Me/XP/2000
PC with 733 MHz equivalent or higher processor
128 MB of system RAM
1.2 GB available hard disk space
8x speed or faster CD-ROM drive
32 MB T&L capable video card required
Sound card, speakers or headphones required for audio
Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
56.6 Kbps or better modem or LAN for online play; broadband to run a server

Unofficially:
***To play Halo well***
1 ghz processor or higher
512 megs of RAM
GeForce3 or ATI equivalent (at least 64 megs of RAM, and support for pixel shaders) This would be an 8500/9100
Win2k or OS X.2
Multiple gigabytes of open hard disk space
Cable or DSL internet connection

***To play Halo so nicely your mother will want to cry:***
1.8ghz processor or higher,
1 gig of RAM,
GeForceFX or ATI equivalent (128+ megs of RAM, DirectX 9 Support) This would be a 9600Pro
Win2k or OS X.2
At least 7 gigs of hard disk space for all those maps you'll be downloading.
Fast Cable or DSL connection (or T1 or greater)

To play Halo so incredibly well the Pope will want to have a turn:
20 petrahertz wetware processor
RAM's unimportant, use a human brain for memory
Your AI should handle turning Halo into an immersive virtual world
Ask your AI about the OS
Who uses hard disks in the year 7000?
The internet was outlawed after the battle of Los Angeles III.

Peace.

Gone gold heh? ....

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll keep my eyes peeled, I'm sure it will pop up somewhere on the 'net shortly. I've heard a lot about the game, but since I don't have any game console (not interested, never been interested in console games), I've never actually seen or played Halo. Should be interesting!

This game runs like crap! NO NOT THE BETA.
What did you expect from a Gearbox port? Microsoft probably planned it that way to make the Xbox look better.

I expected the game to run well on a fairly good computer?

I agree. I think the beta's not bad. Of course there are lots missing, but that's quite normal, and the gameplay in that beta is surprisingly pretty much completely intact.

Yeah, it was quite enjoyable. I played through 3 levels at least. The only level in true need of help was the 1st one, on the ship.

The beta was extremely ugly (and ran like crap on a P4 3GHz, 9800 Pro) and boring - playable yes, but nothing groundbreaking at all. I honestly believe it was just a half decent console FPS, the first one of its kind - if it were originally released for PC, it would not have been hugely successful in my opinion.

The game runs like crap, the lo-res textures look like crap, and the gameplay isn't even that enjoyable. I've always wanted to play the game after hearing people rave about it for so long.

I played the PC version today. The retail version. It sucks.
