Anyone apply the patch to the retail version? If so what does it fix? Best Buy is due to sell Halo on 10-2 03 for 39.00

Supposedly it prevents multiplayer games being run from pirate copies from showing up in gamespy.

Hmm, I don't have that problem. I get a loud popping sound every few seconds though.

Seems there are alot of problems with this game (just to point out the obvious).

I myself am having problems with speech cutting out during cut scenes.

the multiplayer for this game SUCKS

You have big maps, but a max of 16 people, so it feels empty, slow and boring. It's no BF 1942. I was hugely dissapointed in the multiplayer

bungie sux. They are all about lame excuses

The new patch improved the game speed on my radeon 7500 quite noticably:)

Besides, the ground texture looks a lot sharper now. I am happy:)

Downloaded copy runs fine but does not lot much better than the x-box version and the multiplayer is crippled. Don't download patch or your muliplayer might break.

Make a desktop shortcut called Halo Timedemo, and edit the target. Mine looks like this: "H:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" -use20 -vidmode 1280,960,120 -timedemo

Edit: Oh yeah, I should post my timedemo results. My 9800Pro is clocked to over 9800XP speeds (415/368 to be exact), and I'm using an AMD Thoroughbred at 2.2GHz. This is a retail version of Halo that came off the shelf at the local Gamestop.

Thanks, I haven't installed my retail version yet and I was going to compare the benches to my 1.5 beta but I'll just uninstall and get to the finished product. Does the game default to use PS 2.0 in the settings or does it do it through autodetect?

Did anyone else see this:

- Gearbox, Bungie and Microsoft care about our customers and our products. We are committed to supporting Halo PC.

- We have noticed some people wondering about performance scores with Halo PC and we have some information and news about that.

- Halo PC includes a timedemo feature that was designed to help hardware enthusiasts do benchmark comparisons between different hardware configurations with Halo PC.

- While the feature is very precise, it?s not very accurate. In other words, the numbers are real, but they don't mean what you think they mean. The numbers during time demo are affected by debugging software that was used by developers to optimize memory consumption and rendering performance. The numbers are also affected by shortcuts in providing the feature, such as not discriminating between time spent rendering versus time spent loading each of the scenes in the time demo.

- Since the game?s launch, we?ve noticed that many users are not using the timedemo feature for comparative benchmarking, but as a gauge of their own system?s performance in terms of average frames per second performance of Halo.

- The numbers being looked at are therefore inaccurate for that purpose.

- So, we?ve decided to change the timedemo features so that it can be better used for the purpose of gauging performance.

- First, we removed per-frame memory checks that were hampering performance during timedemo testing. We no longer need these checks for memory optimization and they were only affecting your memory adversely.

- Second, we eliminated load times from the calculations as they were being counted towards the amount of time elapsing even though the game was halted and wasn?t rendering any frames.

- Finally, we improved the output messages to relay this information precisely and accurately.

- The end result for us is that in our configuration testing (limited to just a handful of video cards and computers), we saw anywhere from 30% to 60% increased in frames per second reported by time demo scores.

- These changes will be included in the next update (along with some other cool improvements).

- The next update should be released within a week or so, but please wait for an official release date to be announced before holding us to it

Thanks! Now get back to saving the universe!

I believe it autodetects depending on your device, but it's better to force it to use what you want. Peace.

AAAH...GODAMMIT! Be warned. I just ran the timedemo and it totally FUBAR'ed my game. It reset my last checkpoint to the last scene in the timedemo and totally fusked up all my input and won't let me move at all. Now I'll have to reinstall the bloody game.

Addendum - Ahh...thank god for the pizzadox trainer. Took me 5 minutes to blast through that level again. Would have taken me hours.

What did you do to get it fuBAR'd? Benchies seem to be fine for everyone else. First I've heard of it screwing up a saved game. I have just heard that the cat 3.7 can cause the gaem to not launch anymore. The fix is to use the omegadriver's.

I had to reset the whole level to get it to work again. For some reason it bumped me back to just at the end of the last scene in the timedemo and lost all my checkpoints after that. I didn't do anything other than run the timedemo. Fortunately I had a trainer for it so I just blasted through the level super-quick.

Is the last number in your path the "use20 -vidmode 1280,960,100 -timedemo 100 the refresh rate?
