like how people upgrade for 1 game?

if they aren't going to play any other games, yes.
although, updgrading a pc can benefit more from an upgrade than just for 1 game.

fixed.

That's why I play snipers only. Then again, you can only n00b combo so much in Slayer before it catches up with you.

pretty much the same with console. I know a PC can be used for more than games but you sure don't need a $500 video card to run office

Sniping has been noobified dramatically. The whole game has been made a lot easier to appeal to the more general gamerbase. The hit boxes are bigger, the "sticky aim" is a lot greater, etc.

Well when you go from a set of about 5,000 players online to a set of about 2-3 million gamers online, you have to do something to appeal to the masses. I was all over H1 and XBC with my cousins 3 shotting the fvcking out of everyone. You can't just ignore your target market, H2 wouldn't be nearly as fun to play if it was exactly like H1. (The only reason I liked playing H1 was b/c we were all of equal skill and rolled over pretty much everyone we played)

IMO, Halo 1 with XBox Live Support would be a better game than Halo 2 is.

UT2004, CS, and DOD are better. Online FTW!

I regularly play UT (used to), DOD, DOD:S and it doesn't have the same social atmosphere. However, I have not yet played them at a lan party so maybe it'll make a difference.

I'd have to agree that console FPS titles can be as fun (if not moreso) than a PC FPS.

I suppose my first biggie was the original TF, with Q2 (especially CTF) being my moment of online gaming glory. But nothin' beats sitting on my sofa with an HDTV; not even a super precise mouse and keyboard. As I said in another thread, I'm not looking to earn the "most precise player ever" award. I just wanna have fun.

Now this doesn't mean that I don't enjoy any PC FPS's. I'm really just saying that I don't see why there are two opposing sides.

Agreed. While I LOVE FPS shooters on my PC (been playing CS for 4-5 years, including UT2004, DOD, BF1942, and BF2). Nothing compares to firing up a single system and duking it out with your friends or 4 v 4 with your friends against some random people using the XBL matchmaking. No need for seperate systems with the RIGHT REQUIREMENTS, dragging your damn computer to someones house, hooking it up and unhooking it up.

My friends aren't tech geeks who continuously update their computers so it is great to easily get a game going where we can socialize in PERSON. Even my girl "friends" and girlfriends got addicted to Halo 1 and 2. So to each his/her own, but I will def. will not give up console FPS just because I don't have a keyboard and mouse.

In Halo, take the pistol and and get a good two shots in you have a kill (wtf?), Halo 2, any SMG/plasma rifle in one hand and any pistol, either human or plasma, in the other, bam, butt load of kills.
2 shot kills?
It was 3 and they ALL had the be headshots. There was not the same autoaim as there is in Halo 2 in CE, either, it was all aiming/skill.
HAHAHA I want to see you kill me with SMG/plasma rifle+pistol when I have BR or any other combo. And BTW, you have to learn the guns.. plasma rifle + alien pistol = noobiest combo ever, I doub't you could get even a couple kills from that, certain guns take away shields faster, other ones take away health faster.

The levels were so painstakingly boring in both games that the only reason I played through either was for the story, which was lacking anyways because from the middle of the game onward Halo 2 pretty much became Halo all over again.
Hmm inside alien base, inside human base, inside alien ships, inside human ships, outside in human citys, in alien jungles, humanish forests, etc, etc. Repetitive?

The Covenant Sniper is FAR from an original weapon, its just a tooty fruity sniper rifle that shoots skeet blobs like that new Super Soaker instead of shooting a big ass bullet.
I think that's funny, considering the beam rifle shoots BIGGER bullets than the human (wider). And do you have purple skeet? You might want to get that checked out.

If you want FPS games that take strategy and skill, play something like BF2, not Halo. Halo is the f*cking Mario Party of the FPS genre, its good for playing with 16 people, 4 XBOXes, and 4 TVs, in one room (yes I've done it before :p) but asides from that its mediocre at best.
BF2 TAKES SKILL?!? BWHAHAHA. That game was one of the least-skill requiring games I have ever played. I picked that game up (after people had already had it for a while) and right away I was omghacker good. Strategy??? Are you kidding? That game is "everyone run around and when you see someone shoot in there general vicinity and you'll hit them at least once, enough to kill them"

LMAO!

It's been a while since I've played Halo, but this is pretty much how it goes...

Level 1: Get out of container. Shoot aliens in identical hallways. Talk to a guy with a pipe. Shoot aliens in a room filled with tables. Shoot aliens in more identical hallways. Walk through dark vents. Shoot aliens in more identical hallways. Walk through dark vents. Shoot aliens in more identical hallways. Walk through dark vents. Escape the ship.

Level 2: Crash. Walk over a bridge. Go to a building. Watch an alien ship land and kill the baddies. Watch another alien ship land and kill the baddies. Watch another alien ship land and kill the baddies. Watch another alien ship land and kill the baddies. Drive. Go to a building. Watch an alien ship land and kill the baddies. Watch another alien ship land and kill the baddies. Watch another alien ship land and kill the baddies. Watch another alien ship land and kill the baddies. Drive. Go to a building. Watch an alien ship land and kill the baddies. Watch another alien ship land and kill the baddies. Watch another alien ship land and kill the baddies. Watch another alien ship land and kill the baddies. Drive.

Level 3: I'm not going to bother describing the Silent Cartographer as it is a pretty good level, I'll admit.

Level 4: Land on cliffside at night. Silently kill sleeping aliens. Silently kill some more sleeping aliens. Silently kill some more sleeping aliens. Kill aliens near a UFO. Go up the UFO beam. Kill aliens in a large room. Kill aliens in hallway. Kill more aliens in hallway. Kill more aliens in hallway. Can't remember the rest.

From this point on I may be getting levels (and parts of them) out of order, but that doesn't matter.

Level 5: Enter snowy place. Fight aliens in large snowy canyons, which is quite cool. Sneak up on sleeping aliens in a room. Go through a hallway. Kill aliens on a bridge. Sneak up on sleeping aliens in a room. Go through a hallway. Kill aliens on a bridge. Sneak up on sleeping aliens in a room. Go through a hallway. Kill aliens on a bridge. Sneak up on sleeping aliens in a room. Go through a hallway. Kill aliens on a bridge.

Level 6: Go to a jungle. Walk around the jungle. Walk into an underground base. Watch a video. Kill a wave of the flood. Kill another wave of the flood. Kill another wave of the flood. Backtrack your way to the top, killing more waves of the flood. Get kidnapped by an annoying robot.

Level 7: Fight the flood. Fight some more flood while the annoying robot fixes a door. Go up one floor on an elevator. Fight some more flood while the annoying robot fixes a door. Go up one floor on an elevator. Fight some more flood while the annoying robot fixes a door. Go up one floor on an elevator. Fight some more flood while the annoying robot fixes a door. Go up one floor on an elevator.

Level 8: Get bitched at by Cortana. Destroy a generator. Backtrack some of Level 5. Destroy another generator. Backtrack more of Level 5. Destroy another generator. Backtrack more of Level 5. Destroy another generator. Backtrack more of Level 5.

Level 9: Walk through the same spaceship in Level 1. Kill aliens. Throw a grenade at an engine. Fight some aliens. Throw a grenade at an engine. Fight some aliens. Throw a grenade at an engine. Fight some aliens. Throw a grenade at an engine. Fight some aliens.

Level 10: This one is pretty cool as well, so I'm not going to bother describing it.

And then there's deux ex:
1. Play in a city (NYC, hongkong, originality FTL)
2. Beat the game
3. Realize that you didn't see everything that you could
4. Beat the game again as something different
5. Repeat step 4 until you get bored of the redundant crap

If you're going to simplify it that much you might as well say Warcraft is just "Build stuff" and Baldur's Gate II is just "Level up".
