Only right. Sucky overly-marketed music has been topping the sales charts for decades. Why not ruin video games with the same playbook?
No wonder Bungie bailed out.

Is Halo 3 basically like Halo 1 and Halo 2? I can't imagine what new gameplay elements this new Halo brings to the table that would make it so popular...

Nah, I'll just buy Orange Box for my PC and get a much better single-player game and much, much, much better online game plus a puzzle game thrown in for good measure.
It's not that Halo is popular that makes it bad. It's that it's a completely average game overly inflated with bagillions of dollars in marketing.
As long as the suck does not stop making genuinely good games like HL2, Company of Heroes, and Bioshock it's fine with me.

Tens of millions of people also bought Britney Spears albums.

Marketing hype leads to a bunch of people going to see a crappy movie for $10 on a Friday night, that doesn't apply to a $60 game + $400 console investment + countless hours online. True, the marketing probably got the more casual gamer to remember the game, but for most people who own a 360, they knew about Halo and would buy Halo without a single commercial.

2.I HATE THE STUPID MATCHMAKING :| I want to be able to browse a list of public games, not play the same old shit Bungie throws my direction.
