Marketing hype leads to a bunch of people going to see a crappy movie for $10 on a Friday night, that doesn't apply to a $60 game + $400 console investment + countless hours online. True, the marketing probably got the more casual gamer to remember the game, but for most people who own a 360, they knew about Halo and would buy Halo without a single commercial.
So you're saying they would have sold that many without media saturation and Master Chief Mountain Dew?

With that many sales, we should start a console forum around here.

Yes we should. I cannot believe Anandtech's oversight of not having a "Console Gaming" forum dedicated to just that.![]()

Why do you care so much? Sounds like a typical PC geek who cant comprehend that Halo is more of a social game that you play with friends.......you should try to make some.
Arguing about graphics, and additional features on PC games is something only PC gamers care about. The bottom line is Halo players have as much if not more fun than you have on your games so isnt that what matters? Sounds like youre trying to convince yourself that different = bad.

Because the PC does not have any of those?

I really has nothing to do with console vs PC. It has to do with Halo being overrated.

haha, gotta love the people who are "too hip" to like anything popular. Keep on stickin' it to the man, man!
Nah, I'll just buy Orange Box for my PC and get a much better single-player game and much, much, much better online game plus a puzzle game thrown in for good measure.
It's not that Halo is popular that makes it bad. It's that it's a completely average game overly inflated with bagillions of dollars in marketing.
As long as the suck does not stop making genuinely good games like HL2, Company of Heroes, and Bioshock it's fine with me.

so because you can buy and enjoy the Orange Box that means you can't enjoy Halo 3 as well?

I really do not understand the whole "overrated" thing with Halo.
I mean part 2 by FAR is the most played online console FPS game to date (probably most played online console game period), held the top spot on Xbox Live pretty much up until Halo 3 was released, even through all of these Xbox360 games that have been out. That is pretty damn good for a 3 year old game.
Again, how is it overrated when the numbers show just how played this game is?

It's more fun to be able to play with 4 people on one big screen TV in the same room..
PLaying online is social but it's not what he is referring to.

Well, personally I don't like split-screen gaming. I was playing Dynasty Warriors Gundam with my friend this past weekend and I just couldn't stand going from me having the full screen to me only having half. I think I'm usually alright with it in racing games, but it still tends to kill how far I can see ahead, which can be a problem sometimes.
Also, I have taken my computer to a friend's house to play games. LAN parties are loads of fun.

To my knowledge, people consider it overrated because it doesn't offer much over the PC's FPS games in terms of gameplay. Some may say that the online experience is a bit better because of XBOX Live though. I kind of imagine it like this:
XBOX_User: ZOMG Halo is like the best ever. I get to run around, shoot shit and it goes boom!
PC_User: Hmm, sounds like 10 years ago....

No, I can't enjoy Halo because playing a two-dimensional badass shooting at purple aliens in cookie cutter environments it not fun to me. YMMV![]()
