I had Halo and Halo 2. I played H1 in Co-op to beat the story moe, and H2 I never really played, probably because I was focused on other games at the time. I played a little bit of H2's campaign solo and very little of it online versus so its been a long time since I touched Halo.
I'm typically a single player/co-op gamer. I played a bunch of Gear of War multi-player, but eventually that lost its luster when I got tea-bagged for the 100th time and I couldnt get any kills. I got more out of it with co-op campaign mode.
Last weekend I got Halo 3. I didn't run out to buy it like all you insane people who have already beaten it and moved on (you're all insane), but I started with single player and was enjoying the first trek through the forest... then I decided to give MP a try.
I haven't been able to get back into campaign mode because MP is just so darn fun... I'm basically going to say the deathmatch (slayer) / team-deathmatch is some of the best in ANY game, any system (yes, even PC). The balance is perfect, the movement is perfect, and even things that made me angry before don't matter anymore... somehow it seems Bungie made it so people who jump around all the time actually have a little disadvantage because almost every time I see some schmuck hopping around like a tool, I am able to kill him, probably due to the way they "float" down, you can predict what path they are taking.
Thats another thing, I can hold my own in the game. Yeah, I still get killed, but I'm constantly in the top 1 or 2 of my team. Not because anyone is particularly bad, but because it seems like we're all on fairly the same level of skill. The matchmaking system works and works well. I hear people clamoring for a game browser, but I just don't think that's necessary. It works and it works very well.
I love that I can get in, play a quick game, and get out. I also love that if I like the people I played with, we can "party up" and stick together for another game, team based or otherwise.
In general right now, I just love playing H3 multiplayer. It's FUN. While the graphics may not be super duper, they're good and it doesnt detract from the experience at all. Color me impressed.
