That's my least favorite thing by far in multiplayer FPSs.

Why? I don't see why it even matters. It's not like it's hard to tell where they're going to go.

Take a real gun and try to shoot it while running and jumping and tell me how it works out for you.

I know it's a game and it's not realistic in every way, but that is one of the unrealistic things that bother me.

Yep. No more than two though.

I thought you could do up to 4 *except co-op* as long as 1 guy has a gold acct ?

Yesterday we were playing Multiplayer with 2 gold accounts, and 1 guest "Yreka(1)" on Live from 1 system. I could have sworn I have seen guys with 3 other people playing before too listed as:

GamerTag
GamerTag(01)
GamerTag(02)
GamerTag(03)

You're right, my bad. Co-op is limited to two. Multi-player up to four.

Or they have modified controllers with extra buttons. I know people did that with the original Xbox. I once saw a guy selling some over at Xbox-Scene a couple of years ago. The controllers had an extra button on the underside of each handle on the controller. One of those was just a mirror of the B button (melee). That way you could easily hit the melee button without taking your thumbs off the sticks. The controllers even had a toggle switch to toggle crouch on and off... of course, that is now an option built into Halo 3, but in Halo 1 and 2 you had to hold the button down to crouch.

I generally enjoy 16 players matches on BIG maps in Halo. However, after playing Warhawk, Halo 3 feels sort of slow.

Perhaps I'd get more into Halo 3 MP if they had Blood Gulch/Coagulation on there...Loved that map. Argh...

they do, it's now called Valhalla and is the evolution of that map.

i personally do not like games over 8 people on halo.

Is that what that map is supposed to be? I found it to be way too different from the last two to have any sort of connection.

I guess I'm more of a "large-amount-of-players" kind of guy...I like the feeling of big team battles, frantic play, and lots of people to kill.

And about the bunny hopping, I hate it. I hate how Master Chief jumps so stupidly high, and the gravity feels like he's on the moon. It's gotten progressively more ridiculous, or so it seems, over the two newest games. I don't understand why anyone would want to jump up and down while fighting. Sometimes it's frantic and fun, but othertimes not.

Oh, one time I was playing and I jumped...I couldn't do anything useful (except for shoot) in the air, and because I jumped, someone managed to kill me REALLY easily (I think melee, while I couldn't do it at all it seemed). I feel too slow and vulnerable while jumping... 🙁

I'm the same way. When I play Warhawk I pretty much only play on the 32-player games. Still, I enjoy Halo 3 MP, but I only play it when I'm playing with friends. Usually just doing the social team games.

Pretty sure thats the point of why it works that way.

Yah I'm the opposite. I used to like BTB when Halo 2 launched (8v8) until it just got old and I realize that you hardly do anything when there are that many people, and that getting 20 kills in a game up to 50 was a lot more fun than getting like 8 or so. Or when you would go to get the flag and clear out 3 or 4 defenders by yourself, only to get killed by 1 or 2 other guys who are on their team. I do not like games like BF2 with huge maps.

I prefer 4v4 in Halo 3 over any other game type, and in the COD series I generally played 4v4, but the 6v6 in the cod4 beta was fine. Any larger and I wouldn't be enjoying it.

That's why I'm not looking forward to UT3 really at all and don't like Warhawk really.

Or, *gasp* people could be modifying the control scheme. It's not hard, I made right thumbstick become my melee, like CoD4 is. It makes a world of difference, zoom is on B now for me.

That too... I was just pointing out the distances some of the Halo faithful will go to. If you have the melee and jump buttons mirrored on the bottom of the controller you have a pretty decent advantage. Though I'd say just swapping the zoom and melee is the next best thing. I have a bad habit of accidently pushing the analog stick buttons in the heat of battle... so having zoom there screws everthing up.

I'm with Michaels, I can't stand Matchmaking. I see no reason why custom search cannot be added. That way if you enjoy MM for nonranked games go for it. I can go play what I want when I want. Friends list should be for friends, not for beefing up a group just so that maybe I can get a few people together to play a custom game.

LukeMS on Bungie admitted that they did not include custom game search because they wanted to keep the population as high as possible for MM for stat tracking purposes.
Maybe the rest of you enjoy being told what gametype you get to play and what map you get to play it on but not moi.

Probably, and I hate it. I hate how he jumps, period. I hate how vulnerable you are because it takes almost two seconds to jump.

Oh, now I remember what it was. I jumped, someone threw a grenade (SP mode), and before I could hit the ground and run away, it blew up and killed me. He just jumps too high, too slow, and he's too vulnerable while he does it.

Personal preference...I just don't like it.

I don't have H3 yet but can't you create your own game of your choice and let others join it?

Nope. You can create a custom game and have people from your friends list accept a game invitation. But that requires you to have enough friends online and avail and willing to play the custom game you have created.
Unlike just about every other PC/Xbox360 game out there, Bungie does not allow you to have a server list (Custom game search).
Which really surprises me considering Bungie is all about Forge and creating your own map....Too bad nobody can play it because no one except people on your friends list can find it.
Same with Co-op, why not allow people to search for others for co-op on campaign. Bungie to me are like Idiot (Austitic) Savants. They can do incredible stuff on one hand yet be so completely clueless on the other.

while I do agree that it's pretty lame there is no custom server list or anything like that, it's pretty damn easy to get a party going. just go into a BTB game and after the game in the end lobby just ask people if they wanna do some customs. usually you can get like 4-6 people who will join, then they all have friends who have friends, etc.

also the forums on bungie.net are pretty good for finding enough people for customs pretty much any time of the day. if you are on irc too you can find people who will do customs.

but yes, why bungie did not create some server list is beyond me ...

But if you do create your own custom game (the way you want) wouldn't other people 'find' it even if they aren't in your friends list? Like I said, I don't have the game so I haven't tried it myself yet. If not, Email Bungie and if they get enough response maybe they will add a 'custom search' feature as a patch down the road?

FWIW, I think most people looking to do coop campaign are going to be hooking up with friends - I know I will once I get it. IMO it's more fun playing coop/story mode with friends. Like when me and my friend hook up for Rainbow 6 Vegas. I have the game set to 3 respawns but if he respawns 3 times and dies and I haven't respawned yet it means next time I die I stay dead because our team is gone. Then I tell him, 'dude, stop going Rambo mode and dying over and over!'. 😛

Nope, custom games are not searchable. The only people that will be in your custom game is the people in your party at the time. If you only have 2 people in your party, you're having a 2-person custom game, simple as that. Only friends will be able to see you are playing a custom game through the XBOX dashboard friends blade.

i gave it a shot and i'm an avid mouse/keyboard gamer. was hooked for the first couple weeks, but i'm getting tired of some of the gametypes. i don't think they need to do a custom game browser, but they should just add more modes to matchmaking, like infection and swat, and take out the ones that nobody plays, like ninjanaut. i guess if they don't want to tweak it, then go ahead and let us view other custom games so the players can have control. i do like the ranked games, though. i'm at 35 in Lone Wolves and i can always count on an intense match.

Lone Wolves is awesome. It's always a good, close match. Team Slayer is good too, but I wish you could manually select a 3v3, since I only have two close buddies that have Halo 3 that I play regularly with. Getting teamed up with some random person is sometimes annoying when they manage only 4 kills and 15 deaths. 😛

I sometimes wonder if the game is a little too random... since it's usually pretty hard to go on an insane killing spree in Halo 3 compared to Halo 2. I remember great matches in Halo 2 where I'd be down 15 kills and the leader is only 3-4 kills away from winning, but I'd have one of the power weapons (sword...etc.) and go on an insane rampage and win. 😀

Still, the noob-dom that was Halo 2 is not to be missed. The game was broken, severely.

I used to be a die hard pc gamer, heck I used to make fun of console fanboi's but the 360 turned me on to a whole new world. I was in love with Gears of War and now I am enjoying Halo3. The matchmaking is very good in Halo3 imo and makes the game that much more enjoyable. A+ to bungie / Microsoft.
