Halo 2 Vista

Looks like all copies were recalled, but still sitting on shelves at Circuit City and some other retailers. Something about Tray and Play functionality. Picked it up for kicks.

Eh, whatever. Gives me an excuse to troubleshoot my Vista installation. 2 FPS on Lost Planet DX10 with e6400/8800GTS 640? Ouch.

I don't think too many people care about it. The first Halo was a big disappointment on the PC. Halo 2 sucked on the XBOX. What's there to look forward to?

VIAN, that's your opinion. Some will agree, some will not. I for one enjoyed Halo both on XBOX and PC, and even though I still prefer Halo over the 2nd one, I still like Halo 2. When I will install Vista in a few months when drivers might be better for it I will certainly get myself a copy and revive all the good memories I have from both games.

MS seems to have the most issues with their consoles and launches. The Xbox 360 still has the highest failure rate of all the major consoles.

And, for the record, both the Halo games were terrible shooters, both for the console and the PC. The PC version was akin to running salt in one's eye, it arrived over a year late and was a text book example of a sloppy port.

Halo 2 contains "partial nudity"
according to Microsoft "It has come to our attention that an unfortunate, obscure content error which includes partial nudity was included in our initial production of Halo 2 for Windows Vista."

So what exactly is in there? We don't know. What counts as an obscure content error? We're not sure there, either. What is Microsoft going to do? Well, try to avoid any legal shenanigans that's for sure - retailers have received stickers to put on Halo 2 packaging to warn about the content, which can be removed with a patch downloaded from Microsoft.

The Vole is saying that the official release date has been moved back to May 31, but some retailers, having already received the game, are reportedly selling it

It could be as simple as a missing cloth object in the library. Some modelers go for anatomically correct. If an object was missing to cover it when they put it altogether, the altogether starts showing 😉

Lol, Masterchief's codpiece fell off? :Q

Gives new meaning to the, um, energy sword. 😉

Cortana does Earth ?

-_- ...

Such a story for "partial nudity", and virtual at that, not even a photo of a real person. Will a kid's life take on a dark path if he sees some pixelated exposed skin ? But showing blood is alright of course ...

Maybe like that Samus vs Master Chief(ette) video, it will be a lady 😀.

That's right. First you create the basic naked body mesh and then create clothing and armor meshes around it. It's the best way to maintain good proportions. Clothing and armor can be stacked piece by piece which is also any easy way to mix and match different segments of armor.

If they created textures with nipples and such or geometry for genitals, that's another story.

But the blood is blue, which makes things completely different.

Anyway, I'm taking bets on how long Master Chief is.

Well apparently there is a photo of someone's backside on a wall or something. I'm sure you see it for at least 1.2 seconds, hence the need to add "Partial Nudity" to the ESRB descriptor box on the game packaging. Politicos: What have you wrought?

M$ must think there are some people who really want this game, I mean there is zero reason for it to Vista only. Shows how greedy they are as a company, I actually spoke to a person who was going to upgrade to Vista because of Halo 2.

I'm going to upgrade to Vista soon...only because I can get a copy from a college student (less than $20). I might as well pick up Halo 2, as I did enjoy playing it.

The game was very good, but you and many like you say it sucks because they purposely left it open for a part 3. The game was still well done for its time.

I'm going to get it the day that someone gets the game working on XP. 😛

how can that happen when you need Vista to even install the game? Tray and Play is a vista only feature

I just read on my pager (msnbc) that the reason for the recall was undocumented nekkidity.

An inside joke on an error message somewhere had a picture of a guy's ass (one of the members of the team who ported it).

Nah, I've seen more PS3 systems go bad than 360s, but more people have purchased 360s than PS3s so it seems like a larger number. Percentage wise it's lower.

you can say all you want, but Halo is the sole reason that many people actually bought the Xbox. Without it we would not even have the 360 at all I can almost guarantee.

There are some features like tray and play and the network code being specifically built for Vista. Vista from what I've heard, dynamically adjusts the TCP packet size as needed.

Now to actually talk about the game itself since every post here and everywhere else is just people mindlessly jumping on the "i hate MS and I hate Vista" bandwagon...

It's definately sharper in all areas than the xbox version, it runs faster too but is locked to 60fps. Built in support for the 360 controller is nice, but it has the same assisted aiming as the xbox had. WHen you use a mouse you lose the assisted aiming, but it does not feel like a usual PC shooter. The mouse movement is slowed, not snappy like the usual shooter.

Other than that the online play is smooth, almost perfect. Still a fun game.
