Do any of you guys remember what Halo was supposed to be originally, before Microsoft bought Bungie? How it was supposed to have been the new Tribes on stearoids kind of a mainly multi-player (reaching near mmo scale) with epic battles? *sigh*

Anyway, anyone know if they got it to work on WinXP yet?

Atcually, Halo 1 was oroginally a PC game. I still have the original demo for it long before Xbox came out. Then M$ decided to scrap the PC and go ahead and to the XBOX version. Then a LONG while after, ported it back to the PC. Funny thing is I think the original demo looked and played much better after the port, re-port back to PC. One of many reasons I dont buy MS games. No reason in the world to have Halo 2 be vista exclusive. It looks and plays like crap. M$ really must think we hard-core gamers will flock to but Vista to play Halo 2. Lets hope other developers don;t follow suit, if that happens I will be a console gamer exclusively.

is that demo in 3rd person (the *original* halo?) and if so, dear god point me to where it can be had. the evolution of halo video shows just how much awesome stuff had BEFORE the game went xbox. it had a chaingun for crying out loud!!!! :(

All the warning signs were there IMO. Most people (myself included) regard H2 as a fairly dull, uninspired sequel (I never bothered to even finish it on Xbox), and the port of H1 sucked too. MS isn't doing a good job of convincing PC users that they need Vista - hell, I have a copy of Vista Business at home and haven't installed and probably won't, at least until SP1.

Enlighten me, what was wrong with the halo 1 port? I bought it so me and a friend could play multiplayer and i could flatten him in a jeep which was a ton o fun. Never experienced any problems or anything with multiplayer or singleplayer. I actually was using 56k internet and a p4 1.7ghz with a geforce 2 mx and 128mb of rdram for a good chunk of my halo 2 playing days. The 56k couldnt handle 32 player most of the time, but 16 player was ok. I had a fun ride.

I think they are trying to convince gamers to get buy an Xbox 360. MS tries to screw over PC gamers every chance they get. Getting game developers to make exclusive games, or if they can't get exclusive games they try to get exclusive content for the Xbox. Several series lost cooperative play on the PC version so that it is now an Xbox exclusive. also look at Shadowrun, Xbox gets auto-aim while the PC version get accuracy blowout. I would never buy an Xbox or MS game after they started trying to screw over PC gamers in a pathetic attempt to make the Xbox look good.

This game is a travesty, I have a high spec system and it still gets only 20fps or less at 800x600!!! AND THAT'S WITH LOW DETAILS!!!!. It's impossible to play when there is any action on the screen! It goes down to 2 fps.

And the controls are completely horrible. I'm not sure how they screwed it up, but using a mouse is painfully slow and inaccurate on this game.

The whole thing feels sluggish. You have to double click every menu item. Most the time it doesn't work, so I click on a menu item 4 or 5 times before it does anything.

I'm going back to FEAR and BF2142.

PS: Halo 2 Vista for sale - $45 Shipped.

High end system for what year? 1996? :D

I would consider my system to be a mid-range setup - Opteron 170 [not oc'd], x1950pro x-fire, 2gb memory, audigy 2 running the game at 1024x768 and it runs just fine.

Mouse control - feels just like the gamepad control of Halo 1. You get use to it after awhile.

The only problems I've encountered so far:

- sound corruption during a few battles.
- I've found myself wondering where to go next a few times
- gameplay isn't as fun as halo 1
- and..what am I doing playing the enemy? :)

When compared to some of the recent FPS [STALKER, Rainbow Six Vegas, FEAR, etc] - Halo 2 doesn't cut it. The graphics are dated and gameplay is very repetitive.

The only reason to buy Halo 2 is when you find it in the bargain bin AND you've already upgraded to Windows Vista.

I enjoyed Halo 1 and Halo 2 on the Xbox, but its still not like playing an FPS on your PC with a mouse and keyboard. On the console side, Halo 2 was good with the new features but too dang short. I played Halo 1 on pc too hoping having it on the pc would make it the best FPS I've ever played, and well, I was wrong as it was ok...not great, but good ok. There are better FPS out there for PC than Halo, and definitely Halo 2. Not wasting my $$$ on Halo 2 for the PC.

The first link was for a Halo 1 review
The second link came up as bad.
the third link worked :)

I saw CC had Halo 2 for $39,99 + Shadowrun for free (PC Only offer). After reading the bad stuff from end-users here, I decided against it.

from all the reviews of shadowrun that i've read, basically it amounts to a $50 MP mod in terms of production value. pretty lame, IMO

Halo 2 is a console game. No wonder it sucked when ported to PC.

Halo:CE sucked on PC too but was great on Xbox.

No it doesn't. It works like Live, you can sign in on any Halo 2 PC.

Define a hich spec PC. I have 2 GB of ram, a Core 2 Duo E6600 Processor and a Radeon X1950Xt 256mb graphics card and my frame rate never drops below 60. maby something is wrong with ur computer. and i actually thought the port was nicely done and i thoroughly enjoyed it.

My only real beef is that it didnt have to be a Vista only game. I hate MS "trying" to force purchases of Vista.

I just jumped on this deal, just got a new machine with an 8600 and needed something to justify getting Vista and DX10 card. I have a feeling it's just going to piss me off but as long as I don't have to repeat the same damn level over and over and over again like H1 I'll be happy.

I sooo agree with you on this but I ended up jumping to Vista because my machine kept having weird stuff happening so an OS reinstall was warranted anyway.
