......... yes?
great. would you like the outfits i made for them?

this is one of them..
......... yes?
Everyone is too sensitive. This argument is bullshit. I told somebody the other day that i was dressing up as a hasidic rabbi, complete with hat, curls, beard and black suit and was accused of racism and anti-semitism. But they had no problem dressing up like a priest or nun.
I went to a halloween party that had the theme "80s sitcom characters". One white guy dressed up as Steve Urkel and even colored his face black with dark shoe polish. I wasn't offended but some people thought it was racist.

That is racist. If he dressed as Urkel, everyone would have recognized it. The putting on dark shoe polish was not necessary and he only did it to be racist.
There is no way anyone would not have known who he was dressed as, if he dressed like this

I probably would have guessed he was Ed Grimley.
KT
Bullshit. If its an 80s early 90s theme and people are from that age bracket, they would have known who he was. Especially if he had on the glasses.......................

Regardless, you still haven't answered the question. Dressing up like urkel is still not racist
I never said it was racist. I can dress up like Abe Lincoln, but I don't need to paint my face white. Fact is for any of you to try and pretend that painting your face black is somehow acceptable, then nothing else left to say. I can see for a movie or a play, but just for a costume? Come on now, lets stop trying to play dumb.

Whats the difference between a movie, play, theater and a halloween party? All involve people dressing up. Re: Abe Lincoln, I think if you painted your face white then it would make a better costume but I would never say it is racist.
We are talking about changing your skin color for the purpose of dressing up and imitating a well known tv show character. Now if my costume was of a "black guy" and I did everything I could to include every negative sterotype about black people in my costume, then that would be inflammatory and arguably racist. But this is Urkel who happens to be black. Nobody is promoting racism here. This faux outrage of yours is silly and doesnt convince anyone here.
Let me put it this way. Urkel is one of, still today, most recognizable characters based on his look, similar to Pee Wee Herman. So what you and several guys are saying is that the only way someone would have recognized it was Urkel was, his face needed to be painted black?
Now let me be clear, I am not saying the guy was racist, I am not saying "I" would have had a problem with it. But I am not a imbecile and understand how painting your face black still is in the gray area today.
Thats all I am saying.

well ... actually ... yea, you did.

What he did to me is racist. He may not be racist, but doing what he did could be percieved as. Urkel is recognizable without face paint. He could have picked Fonzie and painted his hair black..............wait was Happy Days in the 80s?
It's unfortunate that you feel whenever a white person dresses up as a black person that there is some sort of mocking or demeaning going on. In most cases there really is nothing malicious about it.
I didn't say that. But if you tell me someone white is dressing like a fairly reconizable TV character, I kinda don't understand the face painting. I don't see a picture of the guy, but I think he could have skipped the face paint, just my opinion.
why is it racist to you? how is it stating his race is superior to urkel's race?
and also, this must mean you think chappelle, the wayans brothers, and robert downy jr. are all racist to you as well because of costumes they have worn for entertainment?
