That's sad. According to the story, it looks like these stampedes are a regular occurrence during the Hajj. 🙁
 
It's up to 245 now and rising. I'll betcha the Israeli's had something to do with this! Or, the American troops......or the British.....or the vast right wing conspiracy.
 
This happens every few years. You figure the Saudis will have something in place to prevent this, after the last 2,3, 4, x times back..

I know exactly what it is. I may be bigoted and opinionated, but I'm educated. 😀 It's thousands of mindless lemmings all flocking to Mecca; all Muslims must make the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime. Most in that part of the world do it every year...those that live, anyway. On a much, much smaller scale, back in the punk rock days, we'd call it "moshing" and "rushing the stage."

The stage could be considered "Mecca." Once you get on the stage (reach Mecca) you JUMP OFF into the (allegedly) awaiting arms of your brothers and they will catch you. Riiiiiiight. Most times, you hit the concrete floor w/a resounding *WHUUMMPP!* and then proceed to get stomped. Much like a pilgrimage to Mecca.

well hajj is like circling this black cube thing.. and the number of people is amazing.. imagine if push starts to shove.. chaos can ensue

moslems believe that when they reach that place, if their karma (well I dont know the term, so I am using the hindu term) is bad, they will have a lot of problem in mecca.
also some of them believe that they dont even have to consciously walk around the cube thingie

Agreed, fundamentalism is most closely tied to low education than any other significant factor.

Maybe people are sick of every.terrorist.attack.in.the.world.in.the.last.few.years being caused by one backwards-ass religion in a backwards-ass part of the world?

They brought it upon themselves.

EDIT: I am not saying I am happy because I am not. I am just indifferent towards the situation. Obviously if there were in Mecca at this time they were rabid fundamentalists and, like I have said, fundamentalists bring no good to the world whatsoever.
 
I used to be compassionate for all religions but then I realized that there are just some things in the world that absolutely halt the progress of civilization and bring absolutely no good. Islam is one of them. Ebola is another.

Other western religions are almost as bad but don't promote the extreme fundamentalism of Islam. Yes, you could say that the Bible supports the IRA but the IRA is the exception rather than the rule, a significantly fewer number of christians are fundamentalists than Islam.
