How do you decide on how to get your haircut (assuming you don't buzz it all off)?

It seems like men never talk about this. So, I don't get how they come to a conclusion if they don't have a SO to give an opinion.

Time for a haircut again... It's getting long and fugly... Err, wait, what? I'm always fugly.

I get my haircut when I think my hair gets too long or unruly. This is about every month and a half to two months. I wear my hair longer than most though, and I get it cut really short when I do to save money.

To the barber: "Cut if off" or "Trim it."

Since you have problems with even the most simple of tasks, just get your mom to put a bowl on your head, then cut around it.

I get my hair cut pretty short. Like an inch - 1.5. I do that because im a lazy sob and want to wake up, take a shower and have my hair not look fucked up.

When I used to care, I asked for quarter inch sides/back and three quarters top.

Now I just shave it all off.

I just go in with my hairstyle and just tell 'em to cut it a bit shorter.

You're hanging out with the wrong dudes if your male friend don't talk about this. I go to a black barber shop and it's normal for the guys there to discuss hair cuts. Contrary to what ATOTers may say, it doesn't make you gay if you care about your hair. You don't have to live with being content getting the same boring hair cut for rest of your adult life.

When I wanted a new style, I usually just used the style books they have, picked one I thought would look good on me.

Another DIYer. Two mirrors and clippers. Start with no guard and fade up. Took some practice but now I really enjoy the process.

I get my hair cut every September, but last year my stylist was out of town, so I missed that one.
Was too busy this September, so I guess it'll be October this year.

Only once a year? :Q Pics?

edit: Oh, and my wife cuts my hair about once a month. #3 all over, then a #2 around the sides and back. Takes about 10 minutes tops. Before I was married I would just take a #1.5 and buzz the whole thing. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Some of you seem to be confused about the question> I think the OP is wondering what makes you go and get a haircut, not what kind of haircut you get.

I get mine cut when the sides get long and it makes my head look fat. Usually monthly. My wife rarely factors in to when I get it cut.

I go to this Korean guy that barley speak English and has to be at least 65 years old.

I just say "Hey Mr. Kim!" then sit down and he does his thing.

No direction required.

Blond highlights make you gay.

as far as picking a haristyle - look in magazines/celebs and see what you like/want to try and bring examples into the person cutting your hair. (would not attempt this at a barbershop)

how often? Figure out how quickly your hair grows - for me I get one every 3-4 weeks so it never gets to an "unprofessional" stage.

And then apparently if you're black you talk about it with your buddies.

Hmm.. Okay... I'm definitely going to have to ask other people what they think of a certain style before I give it to my haircuttah though. (Last time I made a bad decision)

My hair grows fast, so I get it cut about every six weeks or so. During that time it goes from "Respectable" to "Wild Man From the Woods". Once it gets long enough to get inside my collar when I'm working out, or in my eyes when I'm trying to work, it's gotta go.
