CNBC reports that Ford has been replacing the Firestone AT tires with michelin, continental, and goodyear. Reports have confirmed that some of these tires have a higher failure rate than the original Firestones... Ford's gotta get their heads outta their asses and quick!

Unfortunately it isn't the tires that fail, rather it's the drivers that fail to take proper care of their tires, and as a result, they blow out and people die.

Case in point: In my hometown a few weeks ago, a van carrying 12 older women from a local church was going shopping in another town. One of the tires blew out, and 10 of the 12 women died in a rollover. The church is now suing the tiremaker for putting out substandard tires, but the real problem is this: This van sits out in the Texas heat 24 hours a day, and without much use tires will dry up and begin to crack. Cracked tires are a result of poor maintenance, not poor manufacturing and design. People need to quit blaming the other guy and look at what they're doing wrong for a change.
