Unfortunately it isn't the tires that fail, rather it's the drivers that fail to take proper care of their tires, and as a result, they blow out and people die.
Case in point: In my hometown a few weeks ago, a van carrying 12 older women from a local church was going shopping in another town. One of the tires blew out, and 10 of the 12 women died in a rollover. The church is now suing the tiremaker for putting out substandard tires, but the real problem is this: This van sits out in the Texas heat 24 hours a day, and without much use tires will dry up and begin to crack. Cracked tires are a result of poor maintenance, not poor manufacturing and design. People need to quit blaming the other guy and look at what they're doing wrong for a change.
