Introduction:

If you are new to the world of Hackintoshes, please read this guide:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2163518&enterthread=y

Here is a link to my previous guide from May 2008: (useful for reading previous discussions)

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2186468&enterthread=y

Pretty much the only thing that has changed is the motherboard. I am now using the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Rev2.0 motherboard. Please read the guide here:

Full installation walkthrough:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=112708

I'm not putting pricing on systems anymore because (1) this board is compatible with so many different parts and everything uses different hardware for their needs that it's hard to give a set price and (2) prices fluctuate daily from site-to-site that it's hard to keep a consistent price available.

Here is a sample system:

-Antec Sonata III case (includes 120mm fan and 500w power supply)
-Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Rev 2.0 motherboard
-Intel 2.4ghz Quad-Core Q6600 processor
-8gb PQI DDR2-800 memory
-1TB Samsung F1 SATA drive (Boot Drive)
-1TB Samsung F1 SATA drive (Time Machine Backup Drive)
-Lite-on 20x SATA DVD Burner with LightScribe
-Sabrent CRW-UINB 3.5" 65-in-1 Internal Card Reader with SDHC support and USB 2.0 port
-Encore ENLGA-1320 Gigabit Ethernet PCI card

The Gigabyte motherboard is stable and overclocks well. My 2.0ghz Allendale went up to 2.8ghz stable on the stock cooler and my 2.4ghz Q6600 went up to 3.01ghz stable on the stock cooler.

Any questions, please ask! :)

Yes. I can't remember which release has Server in it, but one of them does iirc.

Not really, but it's just nice to stay compatible.

v1.1 of the guide will be released next month after the 10.5.4 released (via Kalyway) and will have more compatibility testing (wifi card, raid card, firewire card, etc.).

Great job on the guide Kaido. I have rev. 1 of the motherboard and can confirm it works. I got most of the system up and running a few days ago but the audio drivers in your zip file resolved one of my few outstanding issues. The only thing not working now is bluetooth. I have the D-Link DBT-150 as well. When I first installed it the device showed up and it was able to detect my apple keyboard and MX revolution mouse but it wouldn't pair up. I wanted to try a different USB port and the thing won't even show up in network preferences. The mouse works fine because it has an optional USB dongle but I do need the DBT-150 for the keyboard. I'm tempted to just return the keyboard and bluetooth dongle and get a wired apple keyboard.

Do you have the 150 or the 120? I have the 120:

I didn't know that the MX Revolution could connect to a non-Logitech Bluetooth receiver. The new silver Apple keyboard (the slim wireless one) works fine however.

I believe there is a PS/2 fix available, but I haven't tried it. I can dig up my old keyboard this weekend if you'd like and test it out. LMK.

Wireless works! 802.11n for $35 with this card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...6833180052&Tpk=ENLWI-N

Only quirk is that it shows up as an Ethernet connection because it uses a Ralink wireless utility to configure the connection. That means you won't see the little wifi bar in the menubar. Sad. No big deal though, very very nice card! Hooked up right away, faster than any of my other cards did, haha. So (1) install the card, (2) install the Ralink PCI driver for 10.5, (3) restart, and (4) configure the connection via Ethernet in System Preferences. When you go to configure it, the Ralink wifi utility will launch and let you scan the area and connect to a wifi connection. Excellent signal strength and has 3 antennas onboard. So if you're on a budget and don't mind not having the little Airport icon up at the top of the screen, I'd highly recommend this card. Here's a link to the driver:

I have an old Apple Airport Express.

Can I connect up the ethernet port of my mobo to the ethernet port of the AE and connect to the internet wirelessly that way, or can I only use it to stream iTunes to an av computer via it's 1/8 output port?

I was wrong, it is the DBT-120. Was there anything you had to do to get it working, or did it appear right after you installed?

What the heck...I just plugged it into the Gigabyte and it's not showing up! I plug it into my Bad Axe 2, it shows up immediately! I'm running a modified BrazilMac script on my Bad Axe 2...the Kalyway installation on the Gigabyte must be missing a Bluetooth kext somewhere! No wonder you're having problems! I'll work on that this weekend and get back to you if I find a fix :p

It actually worked for me when I first plugged it in. It wouldn't pair with anything, but the adapter did show up and could even find all my bluetooth devices. It wouldn't pair though so I moved it to a different USB port and since then, even after reformatting, the thing won't show up at all.

hey just finished installing, couple things, after i did 6. Install SMBIOS-27 Revision 6, the reboot took alonnnng time but did finally boot up. Also the keyboard did not work after that. But after a restart keyboard worked.

But the big issue is how to get my 5.1 sound to work :(. I have searched (just a little at this point) but it seems there isnt a way?

Gonna work on dual booting to vista 64 bit now.

Do you have a DS3L?

How are you connecting your speakers? Optical? Coaxial?

There is a 5.1-HOWTO guide on Insanely:

its like overtime it kinda turns off, it will open it but wont copy or anything. Only just installed so dunno if it will persist. Also sleep worked 3/4 times so far.

Im having issues gettting vista to install in AHCI mode. Have you done this on this board? Its asking for drivers at the install screen but doesnt say which ones. Can I disable AHCI mode or does that cause issues with sata not working in osx?

The only Windows I use is XP in VMware. You can disable AHCI, but sleep will be slow (like 10-20 seconds).

Did it not wake up for you 1/4 of the time? (using the power button?)

Yeah i think i may have tried to wake it to fast? Like it didnt finish powering down and i hit power button. Then Fans stayed powered up, monitor was off, nothing would respond and power button would not get it back up.

I found a way to install vista then after installed change the registry to enable AHCI. Then turn it on in bios of course. But I have corrupted my osx install at this point lol, I had luck installing osx fist on laptop then vista but having trouble now lol. Going to try to follow this guide installing vista first http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=39253.

Man got class tomorrow at 8am i need to get some sleep :(
