@mosslack - Which / where is Kaido's beta? I did a thread search but find the results very hard to filter ... Will look at your Snow guides as well.

Do you know if I can skip Snow and go straight to Lion? Not sure I'm hardy enough to do 2 major version hack upgrades in a row :)

If you sent Kaido a PM (private message) he will send you a link.

Yes you can go straight to Lion, Kakewalk offers a method by which you can make a USB stick with the Lion install files on it. You can find more info on that here:

http://www.kakewalk.se/

Let us know how it turns out whichever method you decide to use. HTH

Thanks, Mosslack.

Do you know which Mobo to choose in Kakewalk? I don't think the P35-DS3L is on its official list.

Being as I had both the P35-DS3L and the EP45-UD3P, I would use the latter as I've booted each system from the same drive many times. The important part is to substitute the DSDT from the DS3L for the one which will be included.

To do that, once you have completed Step 2 in the Kakewalk install guide, you should have an icon for the Kakewalk USB stick on your desktop. If it is not already open, simply open it and find the Extra folder and open it. Now just move the DSDT.aml file to trash and copy the DSDT.aml from your DS3L and paste it into the Extra folder. Once that is done just continue with the Kakewalk install guide.

Be sure to do the install on an extra hard drive or make sure you have a bootable copy of your drive before you continue. There is always a chance that something may go wrong and you would lose any data you have on that drive.

Yeah, I was going like gangbusters there for awhile, but I hit a snag with the GA-H55N-USB3. I could not get the ethernet port to work. Turns out it was the earlier Lnx2Mac driver killing the port.

I still have not gotten around to finishing it yet, but I got sidetracked on the ZOTAC H67ITX-C-E with a i3-2100. It's up and running on 10.6.7, but the only way it will boot is using an iBoot legacy CD. I've tried all of the latest boot loaders, but I just get a restart loop.

Haven't had a lot of time to work on it what with moving and all, still living out of boxes here!

Should I use the DSDT from your SnowLeopard kit to replace the DSDT in the Kakewalk Lion install USB drive?

That should work just fine. You can just swap the entire /Extra folder with the one from my kit. I'm presently trying this on another system, but I believe it will work just fine. Just don't forget to make sure you don't lose any of your precious data if you have any on that system. This is a strict rule when doing new installs.

Newegg has this Anandtech-featured system back in stock:

ASRock CoreHT 252B Intel Core i5 2520M Mobile Sandy Bridge Processor Intel HM65 Intel HD Graphics 3000 1 x HDMI Remote Control Barebone
$709.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16856158025

Might make for an interesting mini-sized Hackintosh, if you have the money to spare..

I was really interested in that too - until I saw the price. It's pretty close to that of an i5-based Mac Mini:

http://www.apple.com/macmini/

You get a couple niceties like Bluray & eSATA, but...meh. You can get a fully-working stock box in 1/2 the size from Apple for around the same price :whiste:

If anyone is interested, I just posted a Lion update guide here:

http://bit.ly/pjo0Oz

for the GA-945GCMX-S2 for those who have this board. I've tested this procedure on my own system and it seems to work very well. HTH

I get the following from that link:

I finally have this up and running on my DS3L. Took some doing, a lot of changes had to be made, at least to my system.

Basically you need to be running the latest version of Chimera (1.5.4) if you are not doing so at this time. It's available on the Tonymacx86 download site as a standalone installer.

For the first time, the DS3L now requires the evil kexts be installed in the /Extra/Extensions folder in order to avoid the PCI Configuration Begin bug. These can and should be installed prior to doing the update and don't forget to run Kext Utility to update the kext cache.

You can either use Software Update or the downloaded combo update, I tried both and they worked the same either way.

If you are using AppleHDA.kext for sound, the rollback will be required after the update.

I have found no other problems so far and I hope this is all that is necessary.

GUIDE POSTED

For those who need it, I have posted a guide on Google docs which can be found here:

http://bit.ly/nyWGGK

If anyone has a problem with any procedures outlined, please let me know so I can make corrections. Thanks!

Did some work with my MSI system this evening. I suspected the 10.7.2 update was not working with certain outputs on my 3 video cards as both of the ones which were connected via DVI and VGA worked, while the one connected via HDMI and VGA did not work. So I switched them around and the same card (primary, closest to the CPU) is still not working even with the outputs switched to DVI and VGA. Nothing else has changed, using same DSDT that worked under 10.7.1 as well as everything else. I even tried updating the boot loader to the latest (1.5.4) version of Chimera, but no change. Odd that only the primary card doesn't work, any ideas?

I now have the Z68MA-D2H-B3 (donated to the HQ-A group as the next project system), gonna see if it will work to replace my MSI system as it has 3 PCIe slots. Let me know how you come out with yours.

This will probably just be another KakeWalk build

I do want to upgrade my video card in the next month. I'm guessing $150 - $200 budget

I got my old 256mb Zotac 7200GS working under Snow Leopard 10.6.8 using the 32-bit kernel. You don't need GraphicsEnabler, so either remove it from the Boot Plist or set it to "No", switch the kernel to 32-bit (arch=i386), and install NVenabler64.kext to SLE:

http://www.kexts.com/view/118-snow_leopard_nvenabler.html

It shows up as a 7300GS, but it works complete with QE/CI. It's limited to 32-bit operation only, as 64-bit Snow requires an 8000-series card or newer, but at least it works! I would not recommend buying one since you can buy an 8400GS for less than $35 now and get full 64-bit support with that. I have the 1-gig version of this card and it works fine with a few system modifications: (posted earlier in this thread)

The one in my GA-945GCMX-S2 works fine with graphics enabler set to yes as long as it is running in 32 bit mode, but if you remove that line from the Boot.plist it will KP every time. This is running under 10.7.2.

Hey mosslack, how hard would it be to get my 460 gtx to run two of my screens while my 9800 gtx+ runs a 3rd?

Not that hard, I had my UD3P setup like that for awhile which is why I got interested in multiple cards/monitors. Just make sure you have your DSDT setup properly for it, that is the biggest thing as the graphics enabler won't do it on it's own.

The biggest problem I had in setting up 3 cards was getting the slot info into the DSDT, finally had a guy over on another forum who set mine up for me. I'm not the best when it comes to DSDT editing, but I can do the simple stuff.

I am happy to report that I now have my MSI P55-GD80 system updated to 10.7.2, with all gfx cards and monitors working. Thanks to this thread: http://bit.ly/rcrqQy I was able to edit my DSDT with these changes and it works fine now.

At first I made the changes to all my gfx card entries, but quickly discovered that only the primary (Parent) card needs to be changed. Funny how just a little thing like that will make such a big difference, but it just goes to show the importance of a properly written DSDT these days.

Turns out the 460 gtx I bought isn't the best for dual card setups. It looks like I'll be sticking to one card. Thanks though
