I feel like this might be answered but I'm not sure.

There's an EP45 guide that can be tweaked via DSDT to do a P35, I believe. No? Anyone have SL on a P35?

I gave this same link to Sophie424 a few posts back Scooter...

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=182035

I never used it, but it seems to be a good guide. I did install 10.6 on my own, did it w/o a guide, but then reverted back to 10.5.8 when Kaido was talking about releasing a guide of his own. HTH

I suggest not wasting your money on old technology (UD3P, although I have one) but upgrade to what the new IMac's are using...the Lynnfield Core i7 cpu. I like the Gigabyte P55M-UD2 (what I consider the UD3P replacement).

Geekbench and real performance about 30-40% greater than the old UD3P and C2D or Quad combo. About the same price but today's tech and performance.

He already has the P35 though, I'm running SL on a P45, which is basically not much different than his board. While an i7 would be a shitload faster, I don't need any more speed for what I do. SL is plenty responsive. You're suggesting he spend $500 or more on this upgrade? That's basically a new computer. I might agree if he had a P4 or something, but a P35 with a decent CPU will make SL fly. And any P45 guide could definitely be tweaked a little to get SL running on a P35.

That was my point. I didn't consider buying a UD3P when he already owned a P35 mobo a upgrade.

And you are correct going the P55 route is a totally new machine.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I'm pretty sure my hack is fast enough. I nice 45nm C2Q would be nice, but other than the better eSata support (the U3DP has the better 10chr or whatever chip that allows for hot swapping) the new mobo wouldn't do anything for me. I have a e7200 that I got new from Frys for $80, 16 months ago. So that was a steal, and to get a nice, quiet, cool, quick chip with the same specs now would be about the same price, it seems. I haven't seen any quad-core chips for under $100.

So the ONLY reason I'd consider upgrading the mobo is for a simpler SL install. And it sure seems like UD3P is just that: simple. But I don' think it's worth $110 for that, or even $60 (if I sold the P35). Especially since this machine will likely be re-purposed as a HTPC, and will likely switch back to Win7, since that seems to be the better HTPC option (as well as it actually being a viable alternative now, finally).

So unless SL is impossible/insanely tricky on a P35, I don't see the reason to upgrade. Besides, that mobo should be $60 at this point, I think. No idea why it's still $110. I have seen the occasional Frys mobo combo, and i'd be tempted if I could get it and a nice C2Q for $200. If i could sell my P35 and e7200 for, say, $110ish, I'd be tempted to make that upgrade. But I probably don't need to.

I would like to announce that I will be giving away a new Hackintosh system valued at approximately $500 on or around March 7, 2010. This is the first anniversary of HQ-A and there will be a drawing held to find a winner for this system. The contest is open to anyone who is a member of HQ-A or becomes a member between now and when contest entries are no longer accepted. More details will be forthcoming and will be announced on HQ-A. Good luck to everyone who enters.

Full details available here: http://groups.google.com/group/hq-a/web/hq-a-project-system-giveaway

I have also put up my first YouTube video as a contest announcement, please be kind:

I used Apple's Keynote to make this. It was a lot of fun!

About the 1201N, thanks, I just finished a new installer that makes it almost as easy as Stella's UD3P installer. This is an excellent netbook Hack.
You make it very tempting to get a 1201N! Come to think of it, I could use another portable for writing...

Good luck with the giveaway project! The G41 is pretty easy to set up- when I set mine up with SL I simply used the LifeHacker 'no Hack' guide the same as the UD3P, but with a custom Extra folder with kexts -proper permissions- specific to the G41. (By the way, that method is worth trying for just about any Gigabyte 775-based Hackintosh-able board.)

Hey Zapp -
I have same server SuperMicro X7DAL-E mobo, dual quad E5405 Xeons (771) with 4GB Ram and 8600GT gard.
Could you please explain in detail how you installed hackintosh on it.? What is custom DSDT on it?
I installed Snow Leopard to a new hard drive that I put in my main sig Hack. I updated it to 10.6.1 from a downloaded updater (I didn't try 10.6.2).

I installed Chameleon RC4, and added kexts FakeSMC OpenHaltRestart PlatformUUID NullCPUPM to the Extras folder (Terminal to apply correct permissions.)

I then took the drive out, installed in the X7DAL and it booted SL.

A proper DSDT file fixes a lot of things unique to the hardware you're using. For Snow Leopard, it fixes things like SL resetting the BIOS. It can also replace having to hack graphic and component drivers.

It's a little bit complicated, but well worth learning about for your own Hacks if you want as trouble-free a system as possible. There's a pretty decent guide and walk-through on it here: http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=515

It can get tricky to do it right, as all the code-editing required must be done very accurately, so attention to every detail is a must. Unfortunately too, it's something that should be done individually on each person's hardware so the compiled DSDT.aml has your unique hardware ID.

Quick question...

I have a rock-stable hack using Kaidos ES2L kit running 10.5.6. I just purchased an external backup drive and I was wondering what is the best way/how to make a bootable backup my hack.

Would something like superduper do the trick or am I in an entirely new "game" because of the hack?

Thanks,

Evan

Been awhile, but IIRC, you need to run Chameleon on the external backup drive if you plan to make it bootable. I believe most of Kaido's kits of the day were using the older non-gui version of Chameleon and those need to run on any drive/partition you plan to boot from. HTH

Thanks, my only real concern was the sound, but I'm working with somewhat of a DSDT expert and I believe he already has sound working via that method.

The video is nothing like what you guys do, but it was my first YouTube attempt. I really like the Keynote app from iWork as it was very easy to use.

Yeah the 1201N is a very nice portable, the keyboard is usable, so many netbooks aren't. I'm totally happy with mine and I think it's time to take a break from the netbooks unless something really rad comes along.

kool.. really wish could join, but we live too far apart.. but good luck with the project.

so what is happening around here these days. seems not much activity is taking place or have I missed something important.

through someone's link in the last too pages I ended up on this page http://prasys.co.cc/2010/01/compiling-chameleon-a-newbies-howto/

this guy keeps talking about recipes and ingredients, so I am guessing he is related to Kaido ;) or from the same company.

anyway.. system keeps getting stuck right after booting into main screen, I recently put extra 4 gb ram (total 8gb now) so does 10.5.7 support more than 4 gb?

and mosslack, can u kindly recommend some good simple guide, one that does not involve doing lots of terminal work (of course no terminal work is only kaido's magic only but)?

i am still on ep35(kaido's previous guide for 10.5.7 works for it, but I want to move on to 10.6.2 (using my old Ep-35-ds3L) went to look for ep45ud3p, they said, that is an old old board. :( so ended up buying ASUS P5P43TDPro, that I am using for windows 7 for now, but if my old motherboard (ep35-ds3l) really a problem, then perhaps won't have any choice but to find a good guide for P5P43TD PRO..

anyway.. just chillin and venting.. any advice always welcome.

Zup man? I've been futzin' with my 1201N spending most of my time here:

Don't get over here to Anandtech so much these days. As for the contest, I have a couple of people from Japan entered, so how much further than that do you live?

Things are quiet here, Kaido is off chasing new gadgets or whatnot, but he does check in every now and then.

As for the DS3L, mine is still running 10.5.8 and I haven't booted it up for quite some time now. Spend most of my time on this UD3P. I may post something whenever I have time to look into updating the DS3L.

Yeah mine's still running 10.5. I need to get things migrated to Snow here before 10.7 comes out, lol. Unfortunately my schedule is still uber busy - 5am to 8pm :\ School will pay off in the long run, right? ...right? :D

and once you are a little older, getting some study done becomes very difficult, so best of luck Kaido. sure would love to hear if mosslack does some study. no.. hackintoshing is not included. :) cos I would love to get some tips.. the procrastination is killing me and some serious exams are on right ahead...

thanks mosslack for your reply. will visit the competition site again to enrol and who knows win perhaps, then you shall be sending me a laptop? or is it just the guide, all the way close to Japan? :)

by the way, I meant to download Kaido's kit for ds3l, but I need an ID and password, how do I get that? thanks..... Cos few days ago, I was having Ram memory trouble and wiped clean my system cos of that and now I can't download Kaido's kit for p35-ds3l.

I am specially looking for the bios settings guide / pictures, cos i also updated my bios (to f6 for EP35) and seems the bios should now be ready to play nice with snow leopard, but since we are not ready to move to SLeo for now, so might as well put Leo back on it for now, as most of the things work well in Leo, except that it seems gigabyte boards like to kill ram for sports every so often.. and I mean brand new ram... :(

Not a laptop, but a small system. You can watch the video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8KNXowoGkE

I will have to look and see, but I should have what you need if I can find it. I keep most everything I download so it's just a matter of finding where it is located on my system or file server. I will post a link to it at the end of this message when I find it.

@ mohkahn: Here is a link to Kaido's MediaFire stuff, there are some DS3L kits listed there, hope this is what you need:

I've just spent the last hour or so re-reading posts from when SL was first released. I could not remember how I got SL running on my DS3L, but I see now that it is probably not a method which I could document and post for others. So as soon as I get some time I plan to do a fresh install and document my work for others. I really miss my DS3L and would like to get it updated and current again. Just thought I would mention it.

Okay, I got a bit greedy, but I'm happy to report that I have successfully installed SL onto my GA-P35-DS3L V2 (BIOS F9) system, and it was not all that difficult. The greedy part was when I took a mostly perfectly operating system and installed the 10.6.2 combo update and it will no longer boot. So I have reinstalled again and now have it once again working at 10.6.0. Still a ways away from having an installer for this, but I have the right combo of kext and I'm sure it won't be long now. I will need some testers so I will post a link for anyone who wants to try it soon.

Im still running from blackosx guides. 1 for making DSDT, 1 for installing and configuring snow leopard.

If you use that as a base you could make the few changes needed for it to be specific to the DS3L. Though I dont recall there being anything being problematic from his guide for our board. Except now he is providing a DSDT but doesnt work for our board.

It would be great to get all the DSDT fixes done. I have had issues trying to get rid of sleepenabler and NullCPUpowermanagement kexts. But with them i have been golden.

Yeah I saw some posts you made on one of the many guides I have looked at this weekend. I think the PM is the problem I am having now trying to update to 10.6.2. Install went great, I even installed the first time over my 10.5.8 and that worked as well. I know the DSDT is not perfect as the sound pops, but I'll get there. You have a link for the blackosx guide? I had it but lost it.

Yes, that is exactly what I googled! thanks, I have it updated now to 10.6.2 by using the newer SleepEnabler kext. I'm surprised the sound can't be fixed better in DSDT, it works great in 10.5.x.

It just pops after a long time of inactivity right?

So much has happen on blacks guide it might actually be fixed by now. Im pretty behind in all the changes. And still sticking to the chameleon RC4 non modified.

IF you take a look at this post, this is what im trying to do now. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=177497&view=findpost&p=1334977

But if you run lspci -nn, first gotta download the http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=62032 file here. What does your ISA bridge say?

Mine says
00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation 82801IB (ICH9) LPC Interface Controller [8086:2918] (rev 02)
