The guide I used told me to partition in Windows, I have no idea why, but since I've never installed OSX on a hackintosh I figured I'd follow it to a tee. My system is up and running, well sorta. I am having a pain in the ass time getting my sound to work, my on board sound is definitely supported with a 3rd party ktext and I believe my Razer Barracuda is supported (CMI8788 chipset) but getting either to work is really taxing. Oh and I haven't even tried to get my Radeon 4850 1gig working. Googling says I should be able to, but we shall see lol.

Well, long as it's running I'm sure it will work to do the work you need to do for your netbook. I'm not an ATI guy, but there are plenty on here who should be able to help.

Ah ha, now we're talkin'. I know the migration assistant located in apps will help to some extent and I'm sure the newer version of Mail will be able to import the older version.

Ok I'll try that, one other question. For my snow leopard partition I had 30GB of unused space on my time machine drive. I used that for my snow leopard partition. Is there anyway to expand it without losing the data?

Edit:

Nevermind, I just erased my time machine drive and cloned snow to there then used the migration assistant, then cloned to my original leopard drive then erased both my snow leopard drives and made them my time machine.

Awhile back, you guys told me to upgrade to a Gigabyte board to go the Snow Leopard. The GA-H55M-UD2H (rev1.0) is on sale, and thanks to the NFL, I have some cash to burn. Is this a good board to use? If not, what do you recommend, that will take a i5 or i7 chip?

That's cool, how well did the migration assistant work for you? I have had mixed results.

Only boards covered here are GA-P35-DS3L, GA-EP45-UD3P and GA-G31M-ES2L

I can't wait for an i3 build to be possible.

I'm finally starting to think about upgrading to an i5 or i7 (or even i3 if/when it becomes possible). My main P45 based hack is still gettin it done perfectly, so technically I have no real *need* for an upgrade...

But heck, since when did *need* take top priority over *want* when it comes to computers and tech gadgets?

Not a bad deal. Ofcourse, in the context of this thread, by 'possible' I meant "Hackintosh-compatible" with an available guide for setup. To my knowledge, no one has hacked an i3 system yet, which would make sense if Apple doesn't support it yet- though I'd be very happy to be wrong!

My guess they would be very similar to the other "i" series. But this is only a guess as I don't have one either... YET! Welcome back stranger, been awhile. Have you done a netbook yet? I just ordered my third one, the Asus 1201N. You may remember I did the Neutrino some time ago and then I did a HP Mini 311, which turned out nice. The dual core Atom attracted me to the Asus, but it's early yet and all the bugs have not been worked out.

As far as I can tell it worked perfect, Got everything I needed transfered.

One new question now. My time machine does not work for some reason. I set it up yesterday, but today I noticed there was nothing on my time machine drive. So I tried to manually backup. The little arrow on the top task bar did 1 complete circle and then stopped and now says "waiting to backup"

Here is a picture:

I have tried restarting, tried reformatting the drive, but still no luck.

Good to hear that the migration assistant worked well for you. As for Time Machine, someone else will have to step in here as I have never used that program. I bought ChronoSync a long time ago and it works so well I have not had a need to try TM.

I've been digging all over the net for info on pptp help with linux, gave up on that setup and figured I'd try with the hackintosh and got even less far.

When I try to connect on my ud3p kit(10.5.8) i get:

Sun Jan 24 13:18:54 2010 : sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0x6ae4cbf8> <pcomp> <accomp>]
Sun Jan 24 13:18:57 2010 : LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Sun Jan 24 13:18:57 2010 : Connection terminated.
Sun Jan 24 13:18:57 2010 : PPTP disconnecting...
Sun Jan 24 13:18:57 2010 : PPTP disconnected

and when I tcpdump, I get wildly different traffic than on linux. It almost looks like osx is not send/receiving the GRE traffic..
Would this be something to do with the r1000kexts? I'm running out of things to try between these system and kinda grasping at straws, hoping that it might be a hackintosh issue and not something else.
Thanks!

Hey Mosslack,
Sorry, didn't see your post, I've been chillaxing out in Palm Springs.

Nope, I still haven't done a netbook. The HP Mini 311 sounds pretty cool if it's dual core and Hackintoshable. What are the 'bugs' to be worked out?

I'm building a system for a friend of mine this week, based on a Gigabyte H55M motherboard and an i3-530. I'm going to mess with it before I hand it off as a Windows machine, and see what exactly happens attempting to install OSX on it.

Palm Springs!?! Must be nice! We just got an inch of snow overnight here. Nope, the HP Mini 311 is not dual core, but the Asus 1201N which should be delivered anytime now is. There is a thread on Insanely for it, but they are still having some problems with sound. VoodooHDA doesn't render perfect sound, but some are working on getting it setup in DSDT. Let us know how it goes with the P55/i3 setup.

I think I finally got my Hackintosh working, for the most part. I cannot get it to upgrade to 10.5.7 for the life of me. I had to hack the crap out of it to get it to work with my sound/video/network. Also due to the bootloader (I think that's the problem) I couldn't restore my Time Machine after I got a kernel panic I wasn't able to figure out.
I now get a kernel panic every time I try to shut down or reboot, but it boots up fine. I'm scared to try to troubleshoot it as I'm still unsure how to restore my Time Machine if I screw something up. Eairler I couldn't even load safe mode. I just got a black screen. Time Machine restore was giving me a boot error0.

I like OSX, it's different. Installing apps is pretty damn cool, I can't get my good sound card to work, but everything else seems smooth. My volume controls on my Razer keyboard even work :D I am not liking Kernel Panics though, the 2 I had I couldn't do anything but reinstall. Looks like I got a lot to learn. But outside of TF2 and a few games I play. I'm going to try to learn OSX and make it my main OS.

Sorry I blabbered on, I'm just exited I finally got it working semi-decently. Took me 4 days and about 20 installs to reach this point lol. If anyone knows anything about time machine and the Chameleon bootloader I'm all ears.

I'm going to call uncle on this, and try a pci ethernet card and see if that makes a difference. Is there a particular card to use that is 64bit SL compatible?

I saw one on pcwhiz/weaksauce however the links seem to be broken there and i can't find the one mentioned.

Thanks?

Got the Asus 1201N up and running Snow Leopard. Mine is also dual booting with Windows 7. Still some issues to work out, sound is horrible. Wifi requires a mini PCI-e card swap, the Dell 1510 works great. I have mine ordered. The ION graphics combined with the dual core Atom makes this netboot a winner! Now if we can just get the sound going. Check out the install/support thread here:
