As always Kaido...you THE MAN!!!!

Thanks a bunch for the very fast reply. Just to confirm, I use the UInstaller in the ES2L Kit folder from the MagicBootDisc_ES2L and install all the appropriate kexts and strings?

I'll try to update to 10.5.8 as well.

Thanks again.

Yeah. The new system uses DSDT & the newer Chameleon, which negates the need for strings unless using some custom video card or dual-card setup. Hopefully they'll add dual-card auto-detection at some point!

Man this sucks they havent gone away, they are happening to often and it is really annoying. Doesnt seem to be just FF either, everything seems to do it at random times. Dunno how much longer i can stand it. It wasnt happening before that update. But maybe its something else, i dunno how to troubleshoot these things>

Does this happen on real mac? That gay rainbow beachball.

Edit: Seems i may have found the program causing the problem. Though it wasnt doing it before :(. SABnzbd

Well that got rid of the BB's. But it seems my hard drive is constantly thrashing, causing studders in video.

Seems only on ntfs drives. Man snow sucks ass with ntfs drives.

Mac is just really finicky. Guess it was iphoto doing its thing...

Currently logged in on my DS3L system running ChromiumOS on a 1 Gb flashdrive. Apps are kinda limited right now, but this may show promise if some bugs are addressed. Did boot up fast and web access is quick, but screen response is slow. Is distracting when typing. This is the website I used to set it all up. http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/ I also tried this on my UD3P and my HP Mini 311, but it didn't work on those. Hopefully it will work on my Toshiba laptop.

I am wondering what the easiest way to upgrade from 10.5.6 to 10.5.8 on a DS3L would be? It doesn't have a usb sound card or pci ethernet. My girlfriend is having some problems with her ipod and itunes so I wanted to update to 10.5.8 on her computer to see if that would fix it.

I seem to be getting short beachballs during heavy use, mostly heavy hard drive use.

Think a reformat and restoring an image of my install would fix that?

Trying the 64bit kernel first. Dunno if that will help though.

Finally got all the parts for my cousin's hack. Slight issue though.

I cannot get the EP45-UD3P to last more than 5 seconds in memtest without rebooting the PC when more than 3GB of RAM is installed.

I bought a G Skill 4GB (2x2GB) kit and it'll run memtest fine with either of the sticks installed, but not both. It doesn't matter which slots are populated, dual or single channel. Memtest starts, then a few seconds later......reboot.

I have a Dell PC lying around and I decided to pull 2x1GB sticks from it and put them in the UD3P. In dual channel memtest works fine with no reboots. If I put in 4x1GB sticks it reboots during memtest. I took one of the sticks out for 3GB of total memory and memtest is fine.

Is there anything stupid I'm overlooking? My thinking now is RMA the board.

Specs:
-E7500
-EP45-UD3P
-4(2x2GB)G Skill
-XFX 9400GT (I also swapped this out with an ATI card to make sure it wasn't causing the reboots)
-rest of the stuff is the hardware from the Lifehacker guide.

This is not a windows based memtest right? CAn you memtest the g skill in another board?

It was memtest86. I was able to install Windows just fine. I'm going to run Orthos overnight just to make sure it's stable.

It was memtest86 that was the problem. I tried it in my main rig and it exhibited the same behavior. I'm not going to worry about memtest anymore. I just wanted to make sure the hardware was good before I put SL on it. :)

hey kaido any news on the udp3 kits for sno leo, or is everyone still just following the life hacker site?

I'm interested at this point mostly cause the wife is berating me for the network randomly dropping and someone mentioned that they don't have that issue with snow leo. Ergo, i'm getting pressure to fix this.

Anyways, hope everyone gets a vacation to enjoy soon!

Anyone know how to replace the "Obey" graphic from the stella installer with the default one?

There should be an /Extra/Theme or something there.

And then you just edit your boot.plist:
Code:
<key>Theme</key>
<string>Boot_Camp</string>

Thanks for the file location.

I just replaced the boot.png with a boot.png that I made. It didn't end up using the boot.png that I put in there (just a grey Apple logo), but it did switch to a different Apple logo, which is what I wanted.

Yeah I just renamed that to something else and the apple magically reappeared. Not sure where Stella was headed with that Obey graphic. :)

On another subject, namely my own UD3P system, I have been using a hybrid install for some time now, mostly just a combination of Stella's boot files and the DSDT I found on Insanely which I modified to allow for the onboard sound to work. This combination has produced mostly good results. I have my multi video card setup working perfectly, plus my shutdown function has returned to normal. In the past it had been hit or miss, mostly miss on whether the system would actually shut itself off. Since the switch that function works like a charm. As for the bad result, this is my restart, which does work, but when the system reboots and comes back up it always KP's around the time the blue screen shows up. I get the customary "You need to restart" message and have to power off the system and restart. For one thing I find it difficult to believe the system has this problem as it means to me that some aspect of the memory has not been cleared, which I thought would occur during a restart. I have a similar problem with my DS3L system and have since the start with it. The UD3P has only recently had this problem, mainly since updating to the afore mentioned hybrid install. I'm sure it has something to do with the files being used to boot the system, but as of yet I have not been able to figure out which one. I don't really need to restart that often so it hasn't really bothered me all that much. Still would be nice to know why it does this.

Finally got everything the way I want it on this UD3P hack at work and when I bring it home I have an issue.

I can't get the desktop to load when using the DVI connector. The screen goes black right after the apple loading screen. The monitor still thinks it is getting a signal because it never goes in to power save mode, but the desktop never comes up.

It works fine with the VGA connector. The only way I can get DVI to work is to boot the computer with VGA connected and then when the desktop loads I plug the DVI connector in and it works (VGA shuts off as soon as I plug in the DVI connector).

I have to do this every time to use DVI. I'm using an XFX 9400GT and a 2405 FPW. Any ideas?
