I can't get the desktop to load when using the DVI connector. The screen goes black right after the apple loading screen. The monitor still thinks it is getting a signal because it never goes in to power save mode, but the desktop never comes up.

It works fine with the VGA connector. The only way I can get DVI to work is to boot the computer with VGA connected and then when the desktop loads I plug the DVI connector in and it works (VGA shuts off as soon as I plug in the DVI connector).

I have to do this every time to use DVI. I'm using an XFX 9400GT and a 2405 FPW. Any ideas?

How long have you waited before switching the connectors? One of my monitors hooks up via DVI and the other 2 use VGA. The DVI is connected as the primary monitor and comes up first, but the other 2 come up very quickly afterwards. If you have another monitor try hooking up one to VGA and the other to DVI and see what it does. Just throwing things out there...

Thanks for the response Mosslack. I don't have another monitor here at the house so I tried hooking it up to my plasma with a DVD-HDMI adapter and got the same results. Black screen with no desktop. The plasma was getting a signal because it flashed "1080i", but there was nothing on the screen.
 
This was with the other hooked up via VGA? If so, what was showing in your display pref pane? If the Arrangement option is showing that means that Snow knows you have another monitor hooked up so it is detecting it. Might be a refresh rate problem or something like that.
 
Well I seem to have screwed up. Background: I had a working UD3R hackintosh that was made according to the Lifehacker UD3P guide (just happened to have almost the exact same hardware). A week ago I cleared out my Extra folder and ran Stella's third installer and 10.6.2 update. Tonight I tried out Dr. Hurt's Chameleon RC4 installer (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=201850), and when it rebooted it wouldn't get past post (just stalls right before where it would launch into OSX). I was thinking it was possibly because I didn't remove the Extra folder beforehand? So I installed MacDrive on my XP drive and pasted my original Extra folder back. Still didn't help. Any ideas of how to fix this?

One thing that might be an option is a week ago I used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the whole thing over to my backup drive. Would it be possible to reclone it over from my XP drive (since I can read HFS drives with MacDrive)? I have nothing of value on the main hackintosh drive that wasn't cloned

Any help is appreciated!

Hmmm I didn't try hooking up two monitors just the one. I connected one monitor with VGA or DVI and then switched between them. I'll take it to work tomorrow and try and two monitors.

Edit: I tried putting a 9600 GT in and both of the DVI ports work fine on it. I guess it's just an issue with the XFX 9400 GT.

Did you try running Stell's installer again? That should fix it.

How I did it was partition part of a WD green in HFS for the OSX backup, left the rest of it unformatted. It isn't bootable however, not sure why (possibly because it's nor a single partition?). Didn't have time to mess with that though. Whoops

I'm thinking I could boot from that though if I clone it back over, was just wondering if there was an easy fix to salvage my main data.

If it's not bootable as USB then it probably won't be if you clone it back. The bootloader must be present on the HD for it to work and that is what is messed up. Do you have another external HD you can do a quick install on to fix your main drive? If so, all you need to do is run the stellarola installer and be sure to install it to the main drive instead of the one you just made.

BTW, it's a good idea to keep a bootable backup drive available for situations just like these. Just something you can boot up to do repairs with is all you really need. Of course having a complete backup of your system HD is always a good idea. Not preaching, just reminding! 😉

Nope, unfortunately I don't have an external USB drive. Looks like my best bet now is to just install off of a flash drive again on my "backup" drive, then from it run the Stella installer on my main drive?

Yup, shoulda made sure that backup was actually bootable. Oh well, "one burned..." and all
 
So the flash drive is bootable? Can't you use it to boot your main HD?

Maybe I lost track of where we are here, I'm on a few forums right now and I get confused easily! 🙂
 
Ok, I think I see now. Just FYI, I use SanDisk Cruzer micro flash drives and they work well for me. I have a 32 Gb one which has OS X installed on it which I use for times like these. But you can get by with the 8 Gb just for the install if that is what you plan to do.

Just curious, how did you get it installed the first time if you didn't have one?
 
I have a Samsung SATA DVD burner, but it wasn't working out of the box. I do also have an old Plextor SATA that was having ripping problems, I could hook that up and try it
 
Should work as long as it will boot the SL boot 132 CD. Then just choose your main HD to boot and you should be good to go. Once you get the system booted run Stell's installer on the HD and that should get you up and running again. Been a long time since I used that CD, but I think it would boot my UD3P just fine. But in case it doesn't work, I found the boot.ISO CD image from one of Kaido's early UD3P SL package which should work. I could upload it to Rapidshare for a transfer if the other CD doesn't work. Let me know.
 
Are there any decently price PCI audio cards that work out of box with OSX? Looking to get rid of some USB devices I have. Would like to find one that possibly has optical audio, but not required.

Someone other than TigerDirect as this is the Ebay seller that I have tried to buy it from. I have not been able to complete the transaction because when I try to checkout I am directed to a link which only gives 2 options for shipping. Next day for over $86 and ground for over $28. The listing clearly shows a flat rate $6.99 shipping for this item. I have contacted the seller twice, no response, plus I have notified Paypal and Ebay. I'm just waiting for Ebay's okay to cancel this sale.

Given all that, this was the only card I found which says it works with OS X and Windows. I have built a Hackintosh (ES2L) for my daughter to use with her Verizon MiFi and she needs wireless access. I can order the card directly from TigerDirect or via Amazon (sold through TigerDirect), but at this point I'm a little leery of TigerDirect. I've had other dealings in the past with this organization and it has not always ended well.
 
It seems that enabling NTFS write no matter the method causes instability for my setup. This is from kernel panics to spinning bbod (beach ball of death). With enabling it via fstab being the most unstable.

Still need to try ntfs-3g, macfuse but i assume the results will be the same. I hope apple is working on it.

The results are actually quite different. NTFS-3G w/MacFUSE has been stable for quite a long time now.
 
I have a P35 that I just updated to 10.5.8 from 10.5.6. Everything seems to be running perfect, except it won't wake from sleep. Anyone have any fixes or suggestions? Thanks
