The kext you are using works very well for me. If I have speakers plugged in the back, they work automatically. If I plug headphones to the front of my case, it automatically switches the output to the front, just like in Windows. I really like this feature.

Wether it says Internal Speakers.... who cares. Because you never have to be setting it. Try it ut and let us know if this is the way it works for you.

I really like the idea of the USB boot drive. However, the same solution would work if you create a small partition on a Windows drive, install Chameleon 2 on it, and default your system to boot from that drive.

Kind of impossible for me to test the front headphone jack on my UD3P system as it is not hooked up. Just one of the few things I didn't like about this case, the front audio came with cables and plugs which are supposed to pass through one of the rear slot covers and plug into the rear audio jacks where my speakers are plugged into instead of proper mobo connectors. That is the second case I bought setup this way but I wont' buy another one like it. And it doesn't matter to me which output works for the speakers so long as it works.

My Chameleon 2 resides on my main OS X HD and is set to boot first in the bios. That has been working fine for me.

If you have a Hackintosh, then you will NEVER be able to "not worry" about Point Updates - even if everything is on a USB stick! So far Apple hasn't purposely blocked the OSx86 Project, but periodically they release small software updates for their OS and Hardware that breaks out fake EFI stuff and our Hackintosh drivers, which requires the system to be updated. For example, they updated a sleep-related thing in 10.5.8, requiring us to use a SleepEnabler kext.

Bottom line: you are never, ever safe with point updates from Apple, on a Hackintosh. Ever. That's the #1 biggest problem with Hackintosh.

One thing I'm trying to figure out is how to approach future releases, like with Snow Leopard. I'm not aware of a BootCD for Core i7 rigs and I don't know if there are any BootCDs available for Snow yet. Which means you gotta load an image to the drive or do a MpkgInstall. Which means you need a Mac, at the very least to make a bootable USB stick to boot the image from (like if you load a Leopard/Snow ISO to a HDD partition via Windows). Eventually I'd like to get back to the USB stick method, because that will just make installs that much easier, but we need some more tools, otherwise we'll have to cut out people coming from a Windows-only background.

Can I quit before Snow Leopard comes out?

Just a dream I guess! Although I waited a while to actually build a machine, I have been reading forums. The process have simplified (thanks to you) but I do get confused at all the different approaches. Eventually it will all click and I will be able to decipher each method, but now I am on the if it works dont fix it ( at least on my main partition) At work we still have macs on 10.3.8! They get the job done, but the rendering sucks on them!

Yeah, there's a ton of different ways, it really all boils down to (1) how easy it is to install (and get working 100%), and (2) how easy it is to manage updates. I like to get as close to Vanilla as possible so that you don't have to jump through too many hoops to update your system.

Reinstalled Leopard today. Went 10.5.6 Vanilla to the 10.5.8 Combo Update. Everything was working fine including Ethernet (UD3P) Opted for USB audio devices but still installed the Network driver in UInstaller. (Why do I need this when Ethernet is working without?)

Used netkas.org enabler and modified nVidia drivers for my GTX 260 and everything is running smoothly. Wanted to make sure 10.5.8 was perfect before beginning my Windows 7 full-time trial. If Snow Leopard doesn't pan out we've still got a very stable and efficient OS in 10.5.8!

Well, my new rig has issues. It's the 9400GT. When chameleon is in the 5 second boot delay, I noticed it states nvida 14MB. The openGL tests ok, frame rates near 400, but it has no card ID,. I used the custom setting on osx86 toolbox. The trouble is kernel panics while watching webkinz youtube videos and sleep causes KP's. Has anyone had success with a 9400? Im searching around for others solutions. I popped in a 7200GS and it's fine now, but I would like to get this going. BTW, this is a kaidos guide install. I probably just need a 9400 driver, right?

I just put together a new rig over the summer ( quad core amd, biostar motherboard, 8 gigs of ram, 4890 ati card) Is there any chance any of this hardware is compatible? Is there a list of components that has been tested to work with a hack box? I'm sorry I'm such a newbie.

At boot time, it shows how much VESA RAM the card has - most have like, less than 20 megs or something. It's just for like a basic 800x600 mode until you install the driver.

Others have used the 9400 with good success, odd that you're having trouble. Did you use the driver in Uinstaller? If it's not there, just create a Custom NVIDIA entry (scroll down in the Uinstaller video card list & it walks you through it when you click Install). Is it a fanless 9400? Can you test it on Windows to see if it's a stable card?

Netkas has drivers for the 4890 card, and you can probably get the AMD processor working with the Voodoo kernel, but remember that you'll have to reinstall that kernel each time you run point updates, before rebooting.

I support 3 boards - ES2L, DS3L, and UD3P. The Hackintosh scene is extremely disorganized, so if you don't use a board that has an existing guide (like one of mine), then it's basically a research project - first find out if someone has used your board successfully before, then collect drivers and make an install kit for it.

Anyone have any issues with their DVD drive (SATA, Samsung TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223Q) seeking, like, every 45seconds or so when the screen is sleeping (but not the entire system, even though it's set to sleep) and there's no disk in? When the system is active, it's fine, but if the screen blanks the little light on the front of the drive goes and it makes a seek sound far far too often.

I tried that card in another ep45-ud3p system and it worked fine. Windows also was fine. I put it back in the other ud3p, ran unistaller and it seems ok now. I still think there may be an issue because when I ran the open GL extensions viewer it cant identify the card. It says NVIDIA GeForce Pre-Release Unknown OpenGL Engine. I tried the windows version of it and it did ID it properly.

That's a fact, I can testify to that also. Like you, I thought ethernet worked fine OOTB, but once I tried other things I found I had problems. Install the R1000 kext fixed it. HTH

3 Monitor update: I have them mounted and I took a few pictures, but I don't have all the wiring done yet. They look real good though, had to try them out so I have them all working off my UD3P system using the DVI and VGA of my 8400GS and the HIS Multi-View gives me a third display. Gonna take some getting used to, a lot of real estate to cover now when I'm working on this or that. Still need to install another video card in the UD3P, put my DS3L back in service and hook everything up. I will have separate switches for the video and mouse as I need to use the video switch for the center monitor. If I use my present KVM by itself I will be limited to using the keyboard/mouse only on the system that is switched into the center monitor. Using separate switches I will have much better control. Wow, things sure get complicated with 3 displays!

I think I had that with a previous point release, like maybe 10.5.6? But not at all now. All my drives are Lite-on. I have 10.5.8 currently and they're silent except when in use. What OS X release are you on?

So, my buddy upgraded to Snow Leopard from Leopard on his hack. Just FYI, it CAN be done. He's using a USB stick and is familiar with all of the aftermarket kexts he installed, so he was careful to get 64-bit versions for Snow and replace everything properly.

If I ever get around to releasing a Snow Guide (don't I still need to post a 10.5.6 guide? lol), I can say with almost 100% certainty that it will be a 'clean install' guide. Doing the background for updating from Leopard is just going to be waaaaaay too much hassle for me to write up. So yah, just FYI - I won't be doing an "upgrade" guide, just a clean install guide when/if I do, but yes, it IS possible if you know what you're doing!
