Quick question for the gurus on this forum, what is the connection between Chameleon and WLAN utilities? I've seen this twice recently and don't really understand why the WLAN utility will not pop up unless the system is booted via Chameleon. Case in point #1: The Neutrino. While I was installing OS X on it I tried different procedures and what not, but no matter what I did, the WLAN utility would not pop up at all until the system was booted via Chameleon. Case #2: The ASRock 945GCM-S system. This computer simply cannot boot via Chameleon and has to be booted via the boot 132 method. I just tried to install the WLAN for my wireless dongle and now it won't pop up and I have to assume because the system was not booted via Chameleon. Anyone know why this is?

At least on my install I was able to update to 10.5.7, but the video was limited to 800x600, which is mostly unusable on the tiny display. No joy in Neutrino land...:brokenheart:

Man that sucks

Yeah, especially since 10.5.7 improves battery life. Leave it to Apple to make an improvement and then not allow us to make use of it. It's almost like they don't want us Hackintoshers to succeed or something!?!

It's good practice even if you decide to go ahead with Kaido's kit when finished. I will probably to a reinstall with Kaido's stuff as soon as it becomes available, but then I'm a hackin' fool!!!

:Q

I'm tempted to go ahead and try it. I got OSX 10.5 installed on my drive using my mac mini (SATA-USB cable). My installation will use the G31M-ES2L mobo.

So, I'm not sure if I understand the options I need to check.
- I'll select the GA-EP35-DS3L in the Uinstaller.
- What about the boxes for apply kext package, DSDT patch, Extensions.mkext?
- Leave set boot timeout to 5 seconds.
- Leave boot resolution at 2560x1600.
- What about checking 'Install PC_EFT v9 Chameleon Edition 1.0.12', 'Apply Ethernet EFI String', and Install Custom Kexts from HD'?
-I'll choose my video card from the drop down box.

Thanks

Okay, the one I used was from one of the later releases dated 3-28-09. This one has 4 different choices in kext packages in the Uinstaller called DS3L Full, DS3L No Audio or Network, DS3L No Audio and DS3L No Network. I used DS3L No Audio for the G31. I also checked Apply Extentions.mkext, set Boot TImeout, Set Native Resolution (Be sure to change the values to whatever your monitor requires), Install PC_EFI v9 Chameleon, Apply Ethernet EFI String (Time Machine FIx) and last Apply EFI String for video card (Be sure to choose your card from the list). There is no need to check the last box. Once you have everything working and the system boots from the HD (Chameleon) then do the audio fix with the file I listed. Also you need to get the HD installed in your computer and run the OS X setup and then go ahead and update to 10.5.7 using the combo update prior to doing the Uinstaller. HTH

I found the link for the one I used, you can download it here:

The GA-945GCMX-S2 has successfully been updated to 10.5.7. This system has a 7200 GS video card so I was sure it would be okay. Pretty smooth update, just had to reapply the audio patch afterwards. This only leaves the two MSI systems for me to update, but those both use GMA 950 onboard video, so I believe I will wait on those to see if someone comes up with a fix for the video.

Thanks mosslack. Just to clarify, you mentioned to boot from my hackintosh HD and run the audio file before installing in the computer and doing the update. Does the order matter? Well, I'm about to find out...

It was just an afterthought on my part, naturally you need to put the HD into the computer before doing the rest.

I missed the new kit by about 10 minutes. I just used the DS3L kit and the hackintosh booted right up under 10.5.7. One thing I've noticed is I have to select the line out audio or the headphone audio in the sound control panel. Is there a way for me to get this to work, or should I start over?

Thanks!

I recommend a redo using Kaido's kit. That is what I'm doing!

Haven't looked at it yet, but best course is always to reinstall OS X and start fresh with the new kit. You don't have to do it in a Mac, it can be done with the Boot 132 CD and the retail Leo DVD if you want.

Is there a way to copy/duplicate the drive (with all of the users and their data) from my old mac to the hackintosh? It seems like I had seen something called superduper a while back, but I can't find it right now.

There's a header on the board, but you have to buy a card. You can find them on ebay for about $16. Don't know how it works on a hackintosh

Yep, I use SD all the time for making backup copies. You can do that if you want, but I just finished the install of Kaido's kit, excellent as usual, flawless as far as I'm concerned. Doing the minor updates now via my new wireless dongle I bought from OWC. Works great!

Okay, the ES2L is fully updated now and running perfectly. I used the full kit and everything seems to be working. Now to figure out a use for it before Kaido comes up with another new project!

Yup, one of these.

Pinout is correct- see page 30 in the ES2L manual.

My system shows S/P-DIF Out/In: Connection: Optical

But of course I don't have the bracket, nor do I have it hooked up to a digital audio device to test. But others on insanely report that it works.

I can't find a source for those except in Australia- or if from the states, they want twice as much.

I was trying to check insanelymac where I read about it working, but the whole site seems to be down right now.

Keep us posted!

Oh I forgot to mention, I used a 10.5.6 Leopard DVD and then ran Software Update to get to 10.5.7. I restarted after installation and it did the standard automatic reboot after my manual reboot (double reboot is normal for a point update), then booted up just fine. Absolutely no problems with updating.

Well pricewise, it was $16 shipped for me ($9 bracket with $7 shipping). The ES2L is $53 shipped from Newegg, so that's $63 shipped total. The DS3L is ~$100 on eBay and the UD3P is $135 new (or $115 AR), both of which have digital audio built-in, so that's still $40 - $75 cheaper to get an inexpensive mATX board while keeping the digital audio feature, which is especially great for Media Center builds.

Hope it works!

Well now the ASUS P5N7A-VM that Eastwind got working is looking attractive (to me). Quoth he: "A talented person on ISM has posted HDA kexts so now I get 5.1 out of SPDIF!" [and] "the onboard video works with NVkush." Whether the video is DVI was not stated.

Lowest price right now, with FREE shipping, is @ ZipZoomfly.com for $114.99. Considering you'll add $16, per Kaido above, to the DS3L for SPDIF and $25 (or more) for a DVI video card, the difference is CLOSING [±$21] for an all-in-one solution, which can be ideal for many.

Could the ASUS P5N7A-VM become a veritable Mac mini? killer?!
