FYI ICH10 is now supported, so all you need is the Legacy IOAHCIBlockStorage kext on the UD3P (this changes the orange icon to silver)

My UD3P test install partition was messed up so I had to do a complete reinstall. Used the 10.5.7 combo update and then ran the Uinstaller. Had some display problems initially, but I think that is okay. Chameleon is not working right, have to boot with boot 132 stick to get it to work, otherwise get the you need to restart message. No sound, that is kaput. I believe I'll leave my main UD3P partition as it is until I figure out some things. I did notice the energy saver light bulb has been changed! My icons didn't change color, they were still silver. May do another install with the DVD as I was installing from the DVD image copied to the HD as I have done many times before, but got the you need to restart message right at the end of the install. Something not right with that. Will have to wait for tomorrow evening though...

I've only tried it with Chameleon 2.0 on a USB stick so far and it works GREAT on a fresh install. PC EFI_v9 is on my checklist ;)

10.5.7 installed without a hitch on my main Hack (test partition of course, on top of 10.5.6. I'll see how it goes for a few days before updating my main install).

Running Chameleon 2 RC 1 and fixed smbios: I installed, restarted verbose, got to Mach restart, restarted again and everything but sound seemed great. I did notice my monitors, though the correct resolution/refresh, seemed to be flickering ever so slightly. Patched the audio, restarted- everything is great, including no more monitor flicker.

Hmm... I don't see anything different in Displays though. Where/what are the new TV options? What do they add? (Overscan correction would be nice!) Using a 9800GTX+ here with dual displays- no difference as far as I can tell, or do changes only show up when hooked to a TV. (Haven't messed with my HTPC yet).

Any of you have a Core i7 system handy? And a Leopard DVD? Looking for someone to test a new Boot Disc I'm working on.

Not yet, but it's on my list when I can afford it. Gonna give the UD3P another go using the retail DVD this time. I really think my problem was related to the bad initial install. Peter bricked his Neutrino with 10.5.7, so that will have to wait for the weekend before I attempt that. And the beat goes on...

Okay, everyone ready for a good story? Here goes. I did the reinstall on the UD3P test partition. Basically installed OS X, updated to 10.5.7 (combo update), ran Uinstaller (usual options) and restarted. Computer restarted but came up in the wrong resolution (1440x950), not the one I specified (1680x1050). So I went into the display pref and changed to the correct one. Screen went blue and never came back! Finally hit reset and this time when it booted I got the you need to restart message soon after the Chameleon apple screen while the clock was turning. I put the boot 132 USB stick back in and rebooted once more, chose the UD3P test partition and it started just fine and came up in the correct resolution (1680x1050). I also did a verbose boot once using Chameleon and the KP is definitely related to a display conflict. So the problem has something to do with Chameleon, 10.5.7 and my 8400 GS (256 Mb) the best I can figure. Chameleon starts my main UD3P partition on the same HD just fine with the same display card, but running 10.5.6. Also no sound in 10.5.7.

Better news on the G31 scene. Successfully updated to 10.5.7 here. Ran the delta update on my backup partition. Had to shutdown between the install and reboot. Just stayed at the apple logo with the clock spinning endlessly. Shutdown and restarted and it came right up. Will have to reapply sound patch and this install also needs the openhaltrestart kext as it won't shutdown or restart. Other than that it works good, so far.

That's the MACH Reboot stage- you'll only see the text if you start in verbose mode after the install.

My G31 went off without a hitch too. Next up, an EP35-DS3L I have, and my HTPC, though I'm reluctant to mess with it since it's working flawlessly right now recording shows.

Yup.

EyeTV + HDHomeRun + Hybrid '09 (found a steal on craigslist) + USBUIRT + SerialChannelIR + DishNetwork = Mac DVR bliss.

Haven't had the need to boot into Windows for DVR duties in months. :D

Any hope for a better mATX option? The Gigabyte G31M-ES2L has too many legacy ports, which are useless for Hackintosh® projects, plus a lot of non-solid caps. Zaap even calls it a "Beater"!

I read about Eastwind's success with the Asus P5N7A-VM, but some of us prefer Gigabyte boards. Perhaps that GA-E7AUM-DS2H can be made to work eventually? Start new topic, or keep this one alive?!

I've got the G31M-ES2L and I'm ready to start my hackintosh build. I'm planning to do the Mac OS 10.5 install to the SATA HD from my mac mini. Should I install the system first and then do the 10.5.7 combo updater? (I haven't gotten to the following yet:) In Uinstaller, what should I choose for motherboard? Do I need to do anything different from the Leopard Soup 2.0 guide (i.e., apply dsdt patch, extensions.mketx, timeout to 5 seconds, boot resolution to 2560x1600, chameleon edition 1.0.12, ethernet efi string)..

Since I'm doing the install from my existing mac, is it necessary to have a CD/DVD drive installed in the hackintosh? I'd like to wait to get a drive until I get a blueray drive.

You're welcome to try them! I already have a Media Center (G31M) and a Desktop (UD3P); I don't have any future plans for more boards at the moment.

The new thread will probably be released on Monday. My last final is Saturday, then I'm freeeeeeeee! :D

The guide/kit for 10.5.7 will be posted on Monday.

You can do the install from your Mac Mini, sure. You can certainly run OS X without an optical drive, all those netbook users don't have one! :)

It's certainly not the greatest board ever, but it's not bad, and it does make for a great Hackintosh. For $52 it's half the cost of the other two boards, so well worth it. I just refer to mine as a 'beater' because it's the lesser of six systems I currently have, (sig machines, another Hack, plus two Windows-based HTPCs) and I've got no real purpose or need for it other than to mess with it.

Heads up for anyone who needs a better-than-average, compatible graphic card:

The 8600GTS is now $30 after rebate. An absolute steal. (Just ordered another one for an upcoming build).

This card is nearly as good as the old 8800GT. Dual DVI works on a Hack. Only caveats: use it with a good PSU with a 6-pin PCIe connector, and 22 amps total on the 12V rail(s). Fan is loud until the drivers kick in with any OS.

Apparently the Neutrino project will be stuck at 10.5.6 as 10.5.7 breaks the video. AFAIK, this applies to all GMA950 displays. No fix that I've found yet. At least on my install I was able to update to 10.5.7, but the video was limited to 800x600, which is mostly unusable on the tiny display. No joy in Neutrino land...:brokenheart:
