For the record, mouse behavior seems more sluggish/problematic under 10.5.6 as well.

And the password issue STILL isn't fixed. That is, password on awake from screen saver doesn't work (goes straight back to desktop) on a cold boot. If you log out, and log back in, it works.

No clue what's up with that, but I don't think it's a hack-specific issue. Anyone want to test this?

That's odd.. I had the opposite problem. Cold boot was fine... until the system went to sleep. After that, it seemed not to want to invoke the password ever again (10.5.5)

Confirmed on my UD3P:

1. Password for Screensaver does not activate on Cold Boot

2. Password for Screensaver DOES activate if I log out, then log back in again, THEN activate the screensaver

Anyone with a real Mac handy care to test this?

A real Mac, what's that? :) I have an MDD handy, but the desk is piled up with stuff at the moment.

Yeah all I've got is my G4 Cube, but it's still running Tiger :p

Come to think of it, that's all I've got on my MDD. I started messing with Hacks and never got around to upgrading it. My GA-945GCMX-S2 Hack pretty much blew the doors off of the MDD so I started editing movies with the Hack instead. I upgraded a DA with a 1.6 Ghz CPU and tried Leo on it, but it ran so much better with Tiger that I ended up going back to it on there. :(

Ok.... I am sorry to be a pest.... But I need someone's help. I am planning on ordering parts for my hackintosh.... I am going to be using Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P using leopard with 10.5.5 or 10.5.6. I need a video card that will be 100% using dual dvi to support dual monitor use in photoshop.

Every time I go to order a card from newegg it gets deactivated! None of the cards in anyones compatible list seem to be available or say they work in dual view mode....

Is there anyone here running at least 10.5.5 (100%) using two monitors in dual view mode? If so what card are you using? Any advice you could give on how to get it setup properly.

Thanks,
John

Litlgi74- for builds I've done with dual DVI monitors, I've used an eVGA 8600GTS (not the GT version) and an 8800GTX.

My own dual monitor system has an XFX 8800GT, and I used to use an eVGA 8600GT, except that I use DVI and an adapted VGA on my system. I know the 8600GT doesn't work dual DVI, but I believe the 8800GT does.

For Kaido's wiki reference, I don't have the exact model numbers of the 8600GTS or the 8800GTX since they aren't systems I own or from my own newegg orders, but I could find out.

I have:

1. eVGA 8600GT 256MB (P2-N751-TR)
2. EFI Strings 8600GT (EFI studio)
3. Works perfectly in 10.5.5 (Haven't used with 10.5.6) Dual monitor with DVI(1) and DVI to VGA(2)

1. XFX 8800GT 256MB (PVT88PUDF4)
2. EFI Strings 8800GT (EFI studio)
3. Works perfectly in 10.5.5 and 10.5.6. Dual monitor with DVI (1) and DVI to VGA (2)

1. MSI 9800GT 512MB (N9800GT 512OC)
2. EFI Strings 8800GT 512MB (EFI studio)- works, card just shows up as 8800GT in system profiler. Chip is the same as 8800GT. Better: used Aquamac's GFX strings to create a custom patched GFX string for the 9800GT
3. With custom string for 9800GT, works perfectly in 10.5.5 and 10.5.6, reads correctly in sys profiler

1. Zotac 7300GT 256MB (ZT-73TEG4P-FSL -with fan)
2. EFI Strings 7300GT (EFI studio)
3. Works perfectly in 10.5.5- Dual monitors tested working (DVI and VGA)

1. Zotac 7300GT 256MB (ZT-73TE250-HSL -fanless)
2. EFI Strings 7300GT (EFI studio)
3. Works perfectly in 10.5.5- Dual monitors tested working (DVI and VGA)

Zaap.... Thanks for your reply.

If you could find out the model numbers.... I would really appreciate it. 10.5.6 works okay?

There are two eVGA 8600 GTS on newegg now... eVGA 8600 GTS cards

There are no 8800GTSs

Thanks

Thanks Leglez,

But none of the cards are available for purchase anymore.... at least that I can find at newegg.

Thanks

Yep as far as I am aware. It is installed in my girlfriends hack with .6 and she hasn't said anything about any problems and it has been running for a week or two.

My GA-EP-35-DS3L was working great until I took it upstairs tonight. I booted it and somewhere between Darwin kicking OSX off to the switch to graphics mode, my CPU halts. I can't think of anything that would cause this software wise (I did install eyetv, but surely that can't be it.) At first I thought it was the crummy wiring upstairs, but after taking the machine where it was that is not the cause. Does this sound like a PSU issue? I bought a Xigmatek and they are supposed to be solid. Maybe its the 8800 GTS. Anyone have any ideas? I need to sleep on it tonight before I make bad decisions.

Eh?
I thought the point was you wanted working dual DVI. If you use DVI for one monitor, and DVI to VGA on another, (or a card that has one of each port) then just about any card will support dual, from my experience.

Open the case and make sure that when you moved it something didn't shake loose somehow. Check that all SATA and power cables are connected right. Double check that your graphic card is seated properly, and any PCI cards. Double check that the RAM is seated properly. Make sure no wires came loose and are able to block vital fans- the CPU fan especially as it's absence can definitely cause a system halt.

Also check that the BIOS didn't somehow get cleared of vital settings. Doesn't seem likely just from moving the comp, but who knows? If when you moved the comp you changed to a new keyboard, mouse, USB hubs, etc, check that the BIOS is set not to halt on any errors.

Sometimes what I'll do after I've exhausted the obvious stuff like above and I'm not sure if some flakiness is strictly OS related, or hardware related, I'll boot from a Linux Live CD and see how stable the PC is. It's just a quick and easy way to run another complete OS and see how the machine performs with it. If it runs stable- you know to chase down a specific OSX related problem. If it's unstable, or exhibits the same problem- you know to chase down a system-wide hardware problem.

Thanks Zaap. I rechecked all the connections, reseated the add on cards, replugged the Power into the system, sill halts. In -v mode it is specifically halting on synching disks. It says "synching disks: killing all processes" I checked the bios settings and they are correct. Tried ubuntu live CD and i select English and it spins for a bit then complains about an i/o error. Could the onboard SATA controller be messed up. Does ubuntu live CD need ACHI on or off (does that even matter). I heard someone complaining that the EP boards can be kinda tempermental.

For those of you with MSI Wind PC (the desktop) is sleep working?

I a not able to get sleep working. Also my ethernet won't run at 1000X speed, it only works at 100X or 10X. As far as I can tell everything else is working. But the main thing I would like to get going is the sleep function to work.

My Bios is 1.07.

I have tried the following different install methods, MSIWindx86.iso (10.5.4); Kalyway 10.5.2; and weaksause12's wind kit (which I believe was for the netbook version of the MSI Wind).

With the weaksause, method, I am able to get to 10.5.6 fine. Using the 950 driver that comes with this windkit, I can only do 1024x786. When I do sleep, everything shuts down but the display and everything else wakes up when I touch the mouse or keyboard.

So replaced the 950 display driver that came with the kit with a different Intel GMA950 driver. 1. to more display options. 2. hopefully to get sleep working.

I get more resolution options. But now when I put the system to sleep everything goes to sleep. I get an amber light and everything is quite. But when I push the power button to wake everything up, the display remains black. Also I expect there are other symptoms as I can't ping the machine either.

So if anyone who has sleep working on their machine could tell me what they did to install or where they got their drivers, I would be a very happy camper.

Thanks.

I never used the Wind kit, I used the Atom kit, which is available here:

As for sleep, I never use it so I don't know. Next time I am on it I will try it and see. HTH
