:laugh: That one's brilliant, some guy just says "enhance!" and they smack a few keys and suddenly you can read the newspaper from the reflection in some guy's sunglasses who's standing 50 yards away from the camera!

I like how everything's graphical; instead of hacking being a seriously slow and tedious process-usually with a termal window- there's some dodgy graphic of a 3D grid or someting and it all turns orange, suddenly they're into 'the mainframe' or whatever.... fantastic. Then you see a CGI clip where you're flying around some circuitry or something.

They still do that "enhance pic" thing in today's medical and murder investigation shows like NCIS and Medical Investigation. Every second episode of NCIS it seems Abby is "enhancing" a grainy pic of a criminal and achieving amazing details from a blurry original.

I like it, not because of the unrealistic hacking and technology but it's fun to watch, nostalgic, and my high school was in the movie.

WTF, that movie crossed the divide of horrible and waded deep into "horribly awesome" territory. This movie is fun to watch, period. Transvestite hacker gangs, overly glorified hacking lingo mixed in incoherently with pseudo acid trip mainframe interfaces. Accept the movie for what it is, a bullsh|t romp not based in reality, and its actually enjoyable.

Sneakers and wargames were of course the much better actual hacker movies, but if you're looking for a stupid cyber punk movie then this one is great.

LOL, yeah, here's a typical scene:

Detective: "Well, all we were able to get from the surveillance video was a close up of the back of this guys head. So far, we know the guy has dark hair."

Techie: "Let me see if I can work on this. Maybe I can get a shot of his face."

Detective: "Can you rotate the photo?"

Techie: "Okay, rotating 180 to front. The computer will fill in the facial details based upon the way he combs his hair. There we go, see he's wearing a monocle."

Detective: "A monocle? Well, that's something. Can you pull back now so we can get a full body shot?"

Techie: "Pulling back... random body refinement... there we go."

Detective: "What's with the suspenders, shorts and kneesocks?"

Techie: "Octoberfest party?"

Detecetive: "Could be but it's not October... and what's that behind him? I can barely make it out."

Techie: "No problem. Rotating... moving closer... see those specks, just a sec, let me enhance... okay, okay, they're monkeys."

Detective: "Monkeys?"

Techie: "Yep, monkeys."

Detective: "Okay, I see 'em. So, we got a guy with dark hair, wearing a monocle and working at the local beer garden with monkeys flying out of his butt. Shouldn't be hard to find, thanks."

Never got around to seeing Hackers. Maybe I'll find someone who owns it so I can borrow it and not have to pay $4 to rent it.

The writer probably had just gotten done reading Neuromancer when he wrote those parts. And you have to remember, 99% of the viewing audience wouldn't have any clue as to whether or not the movie was depicting hacking acurately or not. Most people who saw the movie when it was first released probably thought "damn that's cool, I want to try that myself!".

Considering it was out in 1995, and it would have had to have been scripted probably a year or more before that, to even mention overclocking in the same context as it's used today would be rather stupid.
