um how about nowhere close?

which game might rival GT4, besides forza (even that is too cartoonish), in terms of simulation.

Colin McRae is a pretty good rally sim. The graphics and physics are great and there is really good damage modeling. I've destroyed my car to the point where I couldn't finish the lap.

Isn't an American mile different from a UK mile?

I'll agree that there aren't as any that is anywhere near as full featured as GT4...
But GTR is very pretty and is considered one of the most realistic track games.
Richard Burns Rally is by far the most realistic simulator ever created. Go on any racing sim forums and just about anyone would agree.
rFactor.
LFS, popular, but I like the others better.
Gran Prix Legends, oldie but a classic.

I really enjoyed that game, but i should've specified that i meant road racing kind of sim.

Im not sure if by "simulation" you and I mean the same thing...IMO the most important part of simulation is the actual physics between the car and the pavement, not necessarily fuel consumption and even damage itself. I could do without the damage and the other small simulation things, but the dynamic physics is something i can't do without. I have never tried any of the games you listed so i cannot defend my point beyond GT4.

Yes, your last four replies have been about Richard Burns Rally. We get it. RBR > *. Happy?

I agree. I am talking about the physics. GTR's damage model sucks actually. But the simulation of the tires/suspension is incomparible. It even simulates the temperature of the tires to calculate the amount of grip. Ever suddenly let go of the gas on 1st/2nd gear? You'll notice that the car will start jittering. It does this in GTR.

You apparently didn't get it when you said Colin McRae was a simulator.

GTR is a spectacular game. It's very difficult to "play" but it's because you have to actually drive the cars properly.

You apparently didn't get my sarcasm. I'll concede to you that RBR is the most realistic sim racer. I've never played it, but from the reviews that I've read, I believe you. I still hold that CM is a sim, even if it's arcadish to you.

rFactor is currently the best racing sim.. With the F3 mod and most recently the Porsche Cup mod being the most realistic.

I don't count Richard Burns Rally because, well - it's rally racing.

We used to play GTR in our leagues - but the multiplayer aspect of the game is horrible and buggy. Also there is almost no slip angle to speak of in GTR. Once you get loose, you're gone. rFactor is much more realistic in this respect.

And anybody who mentions GT4, Porsche Unleashed or any of the other NFS games doesn't know what racing sim is - just what an arcade game is.

I race in an online line league with 20 other guys - and I don't think one of them is younger than 30. We race a "simulation", not an arcade game and take it seriously. Hell a couple of the guys have thousands invested in controllers.

I don't really like playing online which is why I haven't got into rFactor, but I agree with you that it's more realistic. I'd still say that GTR has a nod in the tire/suspension simulation, not considering the slip issue.

Holy crap yes! When you're driving in real life is there any way to prevent that jittering??

After I saw this episode I turned on GT4 and I tried the Type R NSX and the regular one. Got 1.41.3 in the NSX and 138 and change in the Type-R. It's not hard to cross the line at 100mph+

are you comparing a game..to real life?

in last ep of Top Gear Jeremy drove an NSX around Laguna Seca in GT4, then in real life. Looks like he drove a slower car IRL than he did in GT4, one of the reasons he couldn't meet his time from the game.

yeah he drove a Honda NSX in GT4, but then i believe at laguna he drove the Acura NSX which i think is a bit slower.

never the less.....in a game theres no sense of fear. i go up to the corkscrew at full pelt, breaking either at the crest or just before

in real life id be ****** scared of just sailing straight over the crest and into the wall. then you got the G forces which you just wont be prepared for if your not a regular track driver.

The main reason is that GT4 is an arcade racer. ;)
Yes it is compared to real PC sims.

What PC sims are out there? I do like my sims . . . are there any that are as pretty as GT4?

I'll agree that there aren't as any that is anywhere near as full featured as GT4...

naw man, GT4 kills all of those. Richard Burns is crap.

lol I hope you're joking.
Richard burns is crap because you get your ass whooped at it.

richard burns is crap yeah right, maybe its too real for you....should stick to colin mcrea....which makes rally look easy.
