Yes they do. But they realize a proper 'scientific' process will take months.

And they said at some point that the show is also about entertainment, and it is meant to appeal to a general audience. If it was purely "science" based, it wouldn't be quite so entertaining. It'd take an entire season to bust one myth, and an episode might consist of showing 50 trials of the same test to obtain a good statistical sampling. They are also not genius-type stereotypical scientists. There's some humor and fun injected into the format.
It's not pure science. It's a bit of sciencey stuff with entertainment thrown into the mix.
They also have to limit the amount of the dreaded "Science Content" or else they might bore and lose viewers. I'm surprised they didn't have such a segment for the Birds in a Trailer episode - if a lot of birds in a truck suddenly take flight, will the truck get lighter? Of course it won't. The total mass of the truck remains constant. The center of mass may shift, but overall, you've still got a bunch of birds, some air, and a truck. The only difference is that, when they're standing still, their weight is countered by the reactionary force of the ground pushing up. When they're in flight, their weight is countered by a reactionary force of the air on their wings. But still, same mass, same gravitational field, same weight. Why they didn't include a simple explanation like this, I don't know. It would have been nice to see included. Oh well.
