Ha, ha, I just saw an Army recruitment commercial.

lol did you ever eventually get any?

No, I was limited to the socks I brought with me and just had to make do.

Reminds me of people collecting items to send to the soldiers in Iraq just after it started in 2003. One of the most requested and collected item was socks.

For all you imbeciles, I was making fun of the commercial, not our service members.

What?

Oh and proof of military service?

Right. You have never been there nor done that so you don't have the faintest idea of what you are talking about.

Show me yours and I will show you mine.

Where did I say I served?

You said you did.

I'm calling you out.

Forget to post something?

Nope, vacant post for vacuous mind.

ban yourself tristar you troll...you continue to insult ATOT members an we are sick of it....

Is that the best you can do? I thought more of you.

Now listen closely because I understand you have a learning disorder, I did not malign the members of our military in any way, I made fun of a television commercial by the U.S. Army. Is that a treasonable offense?

Look let me set this thread straight. You erroneously chastised an Army commerical based on limited knowledge of how the modern US Army operates, then made a claim that you served and you know what you're talking about. Now correct me if I'm wrong so far. Then, when repeatedly challenged to verify your service, which on the surface looks to be a fabrication, you duck the issue and refuse to do so challenging other people to do what you have not. Here's my next volley in the thread:

Joined 12MAY95, still serving as a Military Policeman in the Army Reserve. I volunteered to go back in active Reserve status after the events of 9/11 shortly after my contractual obligation to do so had lapsed. Within two weeks I was ordered to assist, protect and defend a stateside installation while the active duty soldiers deployed overseas. I did so for the better part of two years, having been released in August of 2003. I've served honorably for over 10 years and still have 4 years left on my current contract. I could go on, but I'll not waste any more time doing so until you provide some details of your one year of service way back when when everyone was a grunt and nobody did anything but infantry work. Your turn.

American Military Recruit system is so corrupt.

With the Patriot Act and No Child Left Behind Act enabling them to see High School and sometimes Middle School names/phone numbers/address's of any student they please..

Its sick..

How do them calling people with information made publicly available make them corrupt? Maybe you should go here: http://www.dictionary.com

And BTW, I was getting phone calls in HS and b/w 8-9th grade before the Patriot Act and NCLB Act were in place. Try again buddy.

The purpose of advertising is to induce people into doing something they weren't necessarily thinking of doing. Of course any commercials by any branch of our military are going to hype the benefits and downplay the reality.

Like I said, I have not denigrated our service members, only the advertising of the U.S. Army.

Socks and underwear still are, apparently. I have been looking into the Adopt-A-Platoon program and others like it, and hope to start in one of them in the near future.

I was sitting in my HS freshman english class when the news that JFK had been shot was announced over the loudspeakers.

We didn't have any AC in our schools back then. 😉

N00b, study U.S. history. We have been in many conflicts over the last 30 years.

So let me get this straight. You see a commercial, you come in here and bash the principals of it and make a vague reference to serving in the Army and then tell someone to read U.S. History about the conflicts from the past 30 years? Did you serve in a conflict or not? Was it in the U.S. Army? Start talking or it's gonna get ugly in here real quick, P&N-style ugly.
I'd say Off-Topic is wayy uglier.

No reasoning at all.

What day/month were you born?

You would've have to been born after November 22, because if you were born before then, it would mean that you were actually 14 when JFK was assassinated.

Wasn't the legal age to join up 18 back then? So that means you were 18 in 1968. JFK was assassinated in 1963. That's a difference of 5 years, putting you at 13.

Hence, your numbers don't add up (or just very, very barely).

Heh, I agree, nobody seems to be able to read or comprehend the written word. I shall now sit back and take the flames and arrows, as well as the outcry for my banning in Forum Issues.

Tell me how that's not insulting (even indirectly) the intelligence of the troops that enlist, and have enlisted.

I comprehend and write the English language pretty damn well and I still have yet to see you respond to my latest post. Seems to me you have the problem here. I never accused you, ever, of maligning or otherwise degrading the service of our soldiers, I question your ability to speak to something I don't believe you have any experience in. To date, you've failed to prove anything.

to be honest, people took this way over the top, the guy was poking fun at the way the army recruitment commercial was directed........

and to be honest he is right, i work in a business that concerns advertising of a sort, and what you see is very rarely what you actually get.....lol

however, it does seem that some people cant take light hearted humour and be amused by it, or just ignore it, they have to create a different angle on it and use it as an excuse to start a fight.......

As for the US army, yes, it is a different animal from what it was back in the Vietnam and World War days, it pre-selects various recruits in to more suitable areas at an earlier stage (ie tech skills or admin or medical or whatever)........im English, but i know this as i have many friends in various services from different countries (and i dont just mean low level 'grunts' either).....

Mind you, the US Army still needs to try and keep a handle on the more trigger happy recruits it lets thru given the friendly fire us Brits suffered...hehe ;-)
(that satire btw, so dont go flaming)

Your pomposity knows no bounds. You believe that grunts are the lowest thing on Earth? What is your problem?

Without the grunts now war would ever have been won, no enemy defeated.

I am proud of our grunts and proud to have served with them. If anything I despise the buttonpushers who sit in the rear who tell us that a position must be held.

Yeh, been there, done that.

Why are you getting hostile. I am only stating the truth. Any of the military services will train you for any MOS you choose when you sign up, but after that it is a crapshoot. When you get your assignment you can be put on any duty they deem necessary. After all, everyone has a primary MOS as a rifleman.

Yes, been there, done that. 1968-1969.

😉

You're so full of $hit, it's not even funny. There's two things that really, really piss me off in this world and that's liars and people who lie about their military service. Start coughing up more than just a year of time and start talking branch, rank, unit, duty station, etc. or I will take some time to find out who you really are in any way I can. I'll enlist (pun intended) the help of people who can find out who you are and I'm sure there's more than a few here on these boards willing to do so.

Second, I'd like to say that even if (that's a big fvcking "if") you did serve, the Army has changed so dramatically from when you served that you don't have a fvcking clue about what it's like. I joined as an MP and I've done MP work my entire time in the service, period. Rarely are today's soldiers tasked with anything too far outside their primary specialty if for no other reason than they're trained in the job by some of the best training in the world and employed in such a manner as to be absolutely vital in skillset to the overall machine. There would have to be a whole hell of a lot of combat arms people lying dead on the battlefield before an Army trained computer tech picks up his weapon and rushes to the front to bolster the fight. I suggest you take a modern U.S. History lesson and start somewhere around the time of Desert Storm and work your way forward and/or back about 10 years from there.

Wow, well put.
you spelled your name wrong

i know.
