The low attention spans of the console gamers these days need that extra "oh look what I achieved" I guess.

I've noticed many comments over the years about how it doesn't have that much impact on the games, but I completely disagree. You can't just pick up and play. You have to play and play and play to get your levels up to everyone elses or you'll always be outmatched from a equipment standpoint. Sure, if you're an expert this makes no difference, but the fact that skill is taken out of the equation from the get go is a turn off.

Make your mind up about what you want.

Is having a short attention span good or bad? Because wanting a game to be 'pick up and play' sounds like the sort of thing that someone with a short attention span would say.

Something is not right here.... Just played this game over at my cousins house and my suspicions were correct. Its literally just Call of Duty with mechs, regardless of my opinion I don't see how this is getting the scores that it did. Some are even giving it perfect 10/10, 5/5....Is this a joke? I sense a huge budget was put aside for bribery. Can't for the next COD clone to come out and score a 9/10.
If the majority of the player base agreed with you, then your "sense" of bribery might have some merit. But alas, the people love the game. So it only makes sense that it gets good reviews.

To be honest, anyone who is calling Titanfall a CoD clone is either an idiot or a liar.

Its literally just Call of Duty with mechs,
And Van Helsing is just Diablo 3 with different monsters.
And BF4 is just BF3 with different maps. Which is just like the previous modern shooter. Etc.
(See what I did there?)

Agreed. Or that they just like to hate on things that are popular.

But don't listen to JumBie. He's been hating on this game practically since it's announcement, regurgitating the same line, time and again.

I dunno some matches even though they are 6v6 can get pretty hectic. The jump packs and other titan abilities make the game more fun than cod.

Last night I noticed some guy with a titan that had all these extra shields and upgraded weapons. I've also noticed it's easier to get kills in titanfall than it is in cod after a certain point. With upgraded jump packs you literally fly around the map.

i started from zero also...yesterday with 2 friends we did one of the campaigns and a half (one side and the other) in about 5hs... we got to lvl 17 or 18, more than what the beta cap. So its not such a big issue

the campaign is interesting, but i found it kinda confusing. It has the same issue (to me) that borderlands has. I hate when people are talking to me about the story or quest or something important while enemies are coming and im shooting and jumping. I cant pay attention to both the firing and the talking. So in the end of the map im kinda lost in what the fuck happened in the map

I ended up buying the game last night and got to level 9 so far. I understand now what people mean by the game being "not competitive". It has a very casual sense to it, in pub games there doesn't seem to be any teamwork or coordination going on and even if one team is dominating it doesn't seem to change the gameplay at all.

I was worried the 6v6 dynamic would make the game frustrating or unfun in unbalanced pub games but to be honest most of the time I had no idea if my team was winning or losing or why. It was just fun shooting stuff. This is a big and welcome contrast to BF3/4 where most games were balanced, but the ones that were not were horribly ragequit inducing. In titanfall, the one game I was in so far that was badly unbalanced (a level 40+ team vs noob pubstomp) was not too bad, I still managed to get some kamikaze and sneaky kills in and wasn't too badly frustrated.

My only complaint so far is that the game seems to be very choppy framerate wise. I ended up disabling SLI and setting graphics to medium to get decent performance - hopefully just need some updated drivers to fix that.

I dont much care for the NPC as cannon fodder to level , the 6Vs6 is .. lacking after big battles to me. I know its the net, but cant believe the "BLIND' love or hate to the game. me its pretty average, pretty, and so far fun.. but fun like a day at the fair, over and over its gets a bit.. blah, just an opinion. There is enough video etc to make a decision for yourself if you want to purchase and play.

Meh, it's not a competitive shooter like BF. It's a fun shooter like L4D. And while L4D only had a small handful of repetitive maps, it was still ridiculously fun for hundreds of hours. Dunno if Titanfall will last as long but after the travesty that was BF4, I'll take it.

With the expansions I'm hoping the pc version will last. I know that on xb1 it will. My buddy just ended up getting an xb1 last night after I told him I got the game for pc. He has all consoles except the ps4. So I have to convince him to get infamous now hehe.

i can see it being competitive but it depends on what are the devs idea of it.

a "hardcore" game mode without bots and maybe without burncards could easily be competitive.

Yeah BF4 soured me to online fps games today. I would like to be able to have user side servers to avoid some of the issues with centralized hosting and match making. Of titanfall does it better then I am all for it. I haven't gotten to play yet due to Xbox live issues (I didn't buy it on PC).

It's pretty fun. I don't regret the purchase. The gameplay is quite a bit of fun. Would be a lot better if it was 10v10 though imo.

The graphics aren't stellar, but for how it looks it performs really well.

Like the already announced pilots only mode?

i havent played anything that is not campaign so far, i knew there was a mode like that, but as far as i knew it was not PILOT ONLY... the IA is there, they just dont give you points towards your titanfall.
I was referring to removing them completely

but i could be wrong. I only played the campaign so far

You're thinking WAY too hard about this. You think that high scores are a matter of bribery, when it's just stupidity. Go look at any number of review sites where the community is involved, and you'll have a decent idea of what I mean. So often, whenever people like something, it gets a 9 or 10.

I've held the belief for a while that ratings systems are broken. They treat it like a letter grade in school, where a 'C' is average, but requires you to score at least a 70%. They have a 100% scale, but basically the bottom-70% of it is treated as used only for failure. When someone doesn't like something, it will get a 1 or 2. There is little consideration to the actual quality of the game built.

Personally, I am REALLY harsh on the scores I'd give out. If I am going to use a 10- or 100-point scale, I'm going to use it. I'm going to call 5/10 or 50/100 average, while having the unplayable ratings down around 2 or 3. I mean, I like a lot of games, but not many would get a 9, and I can't think of one I'd give a 10 to.

You're assuming bribery when the simple fact of the matter is that people don't use the rating system intelligently. Basically, the scale is unused from about 3-7. Bad games are 0-2, and good games are 8-10. People aren't being dishonest with their ratings, they're being ignorant.

well... but even if good games get from 8 to 10.... there is difference between 8, 9 and 10...

An 8 is good, 9 is very good, 10 is excelent. I dont care if a game that deserved a 4 got a 5. And a game with a 7 or an 8 i find them to be the same, good. Not great, not bad. Good.
I think scores are still useful for that

So, something like the already announced (but not added) pilots only mode?

And, you won't need to own a season pass to get that when it drops.

Yes pilots only mode will be available but titans are still allowed I think. I'm not sure how it will work.

its not in the game now? well that sucks...

and i have my doubts about map packs seasson pass. I used to play Space Marines and even though that game was struggling to survive, the map pack that divided the community made it even worse.
You couldnt play with someone that had the map pack if you didnt.
I hope they dont do something like that

It should be in the game. I didn't get much time to check all modes. But I knew it was something in addition to the modes that were in the beta.

And many mp games are like that. If your friend is playing in a map pack and you don't have it, you can't join him.

the thing is...only being able to play on hosted official servers... Respawn will need to divide the server in "without map pack map cycle" and "map pack 1 map cycle" and then "map pack 2 map cycle" and "map pack 3 map cycle", "map pack 1 and 2 map cycle", "map pack 1 and 3 map cycle", "map pack 2 and 3 map cycle"

each of them with their own queue...

The reason why it's getting such high marks is probably because it creates a fresh spin on an already-successful (but stale) formula. The end result is a perfect, addictive mix of old and new mechanics. To me, it feels like what Black Ops II should have been, if Activision had any sort of drive to innovate. Unfortunately they don't. Oh well, their loss.
