Something is not right here.... Just played this game over at my cousins house and my suspicions were correct. Its literally just Call of Duty with mechs, regardless of my opinion I don't see how this is getting the scores that it did. Some are even giving it perfect 10/10, 5/5....Is this a joke? I sense a huge budget was put aside for bribery. Can't for the next COD clone to come out and score a 9/10.
You're thinking WAY too hard about this. You think that high scores are a matter of bribery, when it's just stupidity. Go look at any number of review sites where the community is involved, and you'll have a decent idea of what I mean. So often, whenever people like something, it gets a 9 or 10.
I've held the belief for a while that ratings systems are broken. They treat it like a letter grade in school, where a 'C' is average, but requires you to score at least a 70%. They have a 100% scale, but basically the bottom-70% of it is treated as used only for failure. When someone doesn't like something, it will get a 1 or 2. There is little consideration to the actual quality of the game built.
Personally, I am REALLY harsh on the scores I'd give out. If I am going to use a 10- or 100-point scale, I'm going to use it. I'm going to call 5/10 or 50/100 average, while having the unplayable ratings down around 2 or 3. I mean, I like a lot of games, but not many would get a 9, and I can't think of one I'd give a 10 to.
You're assuming bribery when the simple fact of the matter is that people don't use the rating system intelligently. Basically, the scale is unused from about 3-7. Bad games are 0-2, and good games are 8-10. People aren't being dishonest with their ratings, they're being ignorant.
