I was next to a lady on the elliptical today and she was going slower than a walking pace. I wanted to say something like, what the heck are you doing? You are wasting your time and taking up a machine.

Grunts dont bother me, but people counting reps next to me while I am counting in my head bothers me.

Dudes who think the locker room is there bedroom bothers me. Put a towel on when holding conversations you freak!

Did you ever stop to consider that she might be coming back off an injury ?

I hurt my knee last winter and had quite a few slow sessions as result. Judgemental creeps like you are
a big factor in keeping people too ashamed to get to the gym.

btw,if you've got enough energy to be noticing the length and intensity of other people's cardio, you aren't working hard enough !

are you serious? Im not working hard enough because the lady next to me is going slow and I notice it?
Brilliant!!

When you go slower than a walking pace...and I did see her walking fine before and after her workout....you arent doing any good by going slower on an elliptical.

Judgemental creep? coming from a person with geekbabe as a username. Dont you think geekbabe is a bit judgemental? This thread was about gym annoyances. I am not allowed to have an opinion on something I saw and you have no clue about? Dont take things so personal.
Why don't you mind your own business in the gym and not worry about what other people are doing unless it directly affects you?
That is what I do. I dont talk to these people..I dont say anything. I came in here and said something because the thread was started. Why do you people even care? I am posting in response to the OP. How this affects you I have no idea.

Does it really bother you when people don't workout up to your standard..enough to mention it in this thread? I notice a lot of out of shape people taking it slow but that's actually smart on their part. Injuring oneself if the fastest way to get off track when it comes to getting in better shape. You are lucky that you are in good enough shape to work out vigoriously, keep that in mind.

I walked each and every day with a knee that ached so badly that it would keep me awake all night.

I still say that if you're paying that much attention to somebody ele's cardio that you are not working hard enough yourself, that you'd come here and post a thread about it makes you a judgemental jerk.

This is unbelievable. A woman who is no more then 3' from me is paying a lot of attention? I posted in a thread. I didnt make it. So get over yourself and get some self esteem. My post wasnt about you. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Lol, that you would notice her workout, her stride pre workout and then start a thread here about it speaks volumes about YOU, get over yourself :)

dude, you noted her workout pace and compared it to her regular walking pace
which means you took mental note of both

did you analyze anyone else's workouts?

Keep the grunts quiet and it's fine. I hate the people who have to yell during each set. Once in a while during a heavy set I'll breath out loudly or a quiet growl/grunt but that's it.

As far as cardio, I think it's more important to go by heart rate not RPM on the bike or elliptical. Some people who are more out of shape may look like they aren't going fast but they might have their heart rate higher than you and are probably burning more calories that someone in shape who is slacking off.

Hell, I work out alone at home at times and even then I'll grunt and groan on the last rep or two of the last set. Don't see how I'd be doing it to impress anyone.

Well, its the rpm and resistance. Going like 70 rpm at 25 watts is pretty much close to doing nothing at all. I usually like to make an average of about 100 rpm at 150 watts for an hour.

Did you even read his post? Measuring your workout's effectiveness solely by machine settings is meaningless. 70 rpm and 25 watts might be nothing for you, but a good workout for someone in less shape.

Have you ever used that setting on the bikes??????? It is basically the same effect as me spinning around in my office chair right now.

Well if you were 400 lbs that probably would be a good workout.

I don't understand the bikes..... I pedal as hard as I can in whatever gear I am on my bike... and shift accordingly.... with exercise bikes, there's no torqueing out, there's no falling over, there's no downshifting and no hills... It just hurt my head to ride that bike....

My point is that you can have the bike on 1000 resistance and do 200 RPM, but your heart rate might be at 140. Wheras the guy next to you might have 10 resistance going 50 RPM but his heart rate is at 160. I'd say he's getting a better workout for his body and fitness level even though it looks like he's doing nothing.
