He'll be remembered as the most costly puppet we've had in the Oval Office yet. Cronyism, hypocrisy, being the great divider, corruption, contempt for the Constitution / rule of law and the environment... shit this list could go on for paragraphs.
His actions before and during Katrina are inexcusable, to say nothing of taking advantage of the country's anguish and trust, post 9/11, to enact an illegal and unjustified foray into Iraq. A spoiled frat boy turned AWOLer, leading a life of nepotism, riding his family's coat-tails to become the most prestigious announcer in the country. Wow.
So no, I don't think history shall be kind to GWB. Nor should it. Worst president of my lifetime and certainly no leader.

So do you still have all of that duct tape left over from when the government said that was the best way to protect yourself from a chemical attack?
I can only imagine you're sitting in a small room, crying and clutching that duct tape for dear life.

When I look back at the GWB years in office I will always think of September 11, 2001. On that date for the first time in my life we came together as a nation such as I had never witnessed before. On that day, we were all Americans regardless of all the minutia that we use to separate each other.
As a nation we all looked to our president. We wanted to be comforted, reassured, and led. Hell, I know I did.
In the days after September 11, there is nothing that we could not have done together as a nation. Everyone was so willing to work together and put aside any differences that there may have been.
I look back at that spirit found within our collective people here in America and I feel like there is nothing we could not have accomplished.
GWB, had an opportunity to use that spirit in any manner he chose. I believe that the manner in which he chose to use that spirit is what has come to define his administration since that tragic moment in our history.
We all wanted to be led. Yet he led us in a direction that was driven by dark political objectives and we followed because we needed someone to follow. Instead of using that spirit of kindness that was fostered as a result of a great tragedy to lift ourselves up as people, it was spent on an agenda of half truths that continued to bring down the American spirit and resulted in greater divisiveness amongst us.
No, when I look back at the tenure of GWB in office, I mourn. I mourn for the things that happened but even more so for all of the great things that could have but ultimately didn't.
But in the end, this is a democracy and while it is easy to blame those we elect. It is US who elects them so the responsibility ultimately lies with ourselves. With freedom comes responsibility.

Hey, don't kid yourself that Bush's policies have prevented another terrorist attack on US soil. Intelligent assessments agree that the US has been vulnerable the whole time. The only reason an attack hasn't happened is because AQ hasn't wanted to launch an attack. 9/11 made their point. It was a complete success. It was a propaganda coup. In spite of what you might have heard or might think, AQ's greatest wish is not to plot and execute terrorist attacks on America.

economists can't decide anything about anything, that's not their job. On the other hand, there is a consensus that his policies didn't make sense had most of what good the came from his term economically was well outside of the realm of his policies.

That list is so fubar it's not funny. The problem with any list like that is that it's a subjective, non-scientific listing. Lincoln shouldn't be #1, he should be at the list of the worst leaders in modern history. He was a cruel, dangerous, despotic demagogue, hell-bent on a new federally central power structure. He is the arch-enemy of small-government conservatism. He waged total war on US civilians, and utterly disregarded constitutional law. His list of misdeeds is massive. Bush cannot compare to Lincoln's depraved bullshit. It's too bad we're taught in school how Lincoln was such a great guy and how he 'freed' the slaves when he in no way did so.
The civil war was about MONEY and POWER. Any grand bullshit about anything otherwise is a LIE.

I think what William Henry Harrison (a Whig) did that was so bad was he chose a VP from a different political party, and when WHH died, his VP (John Tyler, a Democratic-Republican) basically took it upon himself to lead the country in an entirely different direction than WHH had promised.
Imagine if, in 2004, John Kerry had chosen John McCain as his vice president and then won the election. If Kerry then died shortly after being inaugurated, I'd imagine a lot of people would be pissed that we'd have a Republican president after just electing a Democrat.

So I guess you believe that he should have allowed the South to secede?
And BTW, I agree that Lincoln committed some nasty crimes against civil liberties when he was in office. They need to be mentioned more. But if you truly believe that the Union needed to stay in one piece, it's hard to argue that Lincoln was a bad president.
