GWBush Legacy

microbial

Senior member
Just wondering what you all think GWBs accomplishments and failures were?

Seems The Bush whitehouse is starting to think about the real exit strategy.

BUSHIES THROW A PITY PARTY.... After failing in every imaginable way, with the worst approval ratings since the dawn of modern polling, and with a party that wants the president to be neither seen nor heard, the Bush White House is apparently feeling a little sorry for itself.

Others inside and outside the administration ... say the upbeat talk masks disappointment and frustration among many White House staffers, who believe Bush's reputation has been unfairly maligned for a series of calamities -- from the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to the financial crisis -- that were beyond his control and that he handled well. GOP nominee John McCain's escalating attacks on Bush's tenure have added to the irritation, these people said.

"Everybody kind of wanted to spend the last 100-plus days doing some legacy things, and the financial crisis has thrown a wrench into that," said one prominent Republican who regularly talks with senior White House officials.

"You have a combination of no legacy stuff, a horrible economic mess and the likelihood that Obama is going to win," this person added. "There is a real sadness there."

The Bushies are sad? One wonders whether they can appreciate how the rest of us feel.

Reagan: Cold War Ends, oversaw the end of the 70's Stagflation...
Bush: Gulf War...
Clinton: Prosperity, dogged by Politically motivated "Investigations", Loved and Hated....
Bush: Idiot.

He has done some very good things with HIV/AIDS in Africa. Beyond that, he has pretty much been an abject failure, will definitely go out of office as one of the worst of all time when you consider;

1) 66% of Americans oppose the Iraq war, surge did not end the war.
2) Terrorist and possible mastermind behind 9/11 yet to be captured or killed.
3) No WMD's found in Iraq.
4) Further poor judgment during the Katrina disaster.
5) Record budget deficits that have made liberals look like frugal, and topped it off with irresponsible tax cuts that did not stimulate the economy.

The list really could go on.

I think they'll just condense it down. Much simpler and no one really will want to remember. 😀

I posted this yesterday in a couple of thread and seeing how this thread is going I thought I would chime in.

I was listening to Rush the other morning and he had a little story on how the Obama's campaign pays it's staffers to"infiltrate" on line forums and preach Obama's message(I'm not sure if anybody else heard it).

I didn't think too much of it, but I saw a posting from "microbial" a name I didn't recognize, only here since the 10th, 89 posts and only in P&N... so I searched and all his/her posts are Obama's talking points. I know the chances are slim and I know I've been suspicious of all of you on the left for a while 😉 but if we had such a person....

I could very well be wrong but what are the chances 😉

Well it would be kind of funny. You guys are certainly eating it up either way.

George W. Bush will be regarded as possibly the worst President in American history. He presided over the double disasters of a war based entirely on lies and a financial meltdown caused by dismantling oversight and abandoning any remaining control of the financial sector.

What he is labeled will depend on who'd doing the labeling. Possiblities:

"Traitor In Chief"

"The Man Who Broke The World"

"A Turd In The Punchbowl of History"

"Teh eeebil"

I think he'll be looked at as Jimmy Carter. He's going to be the punching bag of politicians for years to come.

Like anybody cares about GWB's legacy??

So inquiring minds want to know, are you getting paid for posting here?? A yes or no will suffice. 😉

On the other hand, it could be a long standing member. It could be anybody. And it wouldn't be just the democrits. The repugs would have "infiltrators" too. Making bland, circular, argumentative posts not really caring about anything except disruptions. Hmmm...

My guess is he will be viewed as sort of a martyr - he did what he did was right without caring about public opinion polls and endured most of his presidency as a political punching bag.

Well no shit both sides are doing it. He's just calculating that the OP is a hired poster, which would be funny if he was outed. I guess we'll find out if he consistently posts after the election or not or resurfaces in about 4 years 🙂

"he did what was right"

That's debatable.

Even if he/she was being Paid, he/she's been far less FUDish than many older Members. In fact, he/she's been down right Reasonable.

Definitely more reasonable then plenty of users. I think that this topic is an interesting question, but you're not going to get agreement on this question for any recent president.

Your first mistake was considering Rush Limbaugh anything other than an entertainer.

As for Bush's legacy, there is little doubt it will be viewed as a failure considering what he has done to the economy and the deficit. Then there's the whole Iraq War quagmire which won't help him out.

The part that is yet to be written is how dramatic the response will be to his failed policies. We will see what the result is in the next four to eight years.

Bush was the president who tried to be everything to everyone.

Broad and deep tax cuts on income and investments, tax cuts for corporations (which are still some of the highest in the world), 40%+ increase in education spending, increase in medicare and prescription drug coverage, increased trade agreements, significant increase in defense spending, liberal immigration policy, no corporate regulation.

It's like every single group that wanted something from him...he signed his name; it's like he tried to buy popularity and resulted in a inflation, a massive drop in the stock market, huge deficits and doubling of the debt. The Republicans had the opportunity to reduce future entitlement obligations; this will hit the US like a freight train when the boomers retire (if they can afford to) and I don't think the democrats will help that. (neither will imo)

So, we should start looking at any recently joined member - say in the last 1,2 or 6 months? Or maybe there have been some sleepers who've been members 1,2 or 5 years and yet have low post counts.

I wonder if this is how the commie witch hunt of the 50s got started.

On the other hand, wouldn't it be fun to engage one of these plants and end up changing their minds - what a turn of events that would be.
