The Ukrainian military has reportedly lost three dolphins which had been trained for military attacks in the Black Sea, Russia's state news agency RIA Novosti reports.

The dolphins are trained to find underwater mines (which have been done in other military programs including Russia and the U.S.) but in the Ukraine, they are supposedly also trained to kill enemy divers with knives and pistols attached to their heads, according to RIA Novosti. Some could also be trained to place explosive devices on enemy ships.

One of the "killer" dolphins that have gone missing was reportedly armed at the time, according to a report.

Ever see a nail gun? It has two triggers, the pistol style trigger you pull with your finger, and the pressure trigger near the "barrel". I've also seen roofers short the finger trigger, esentially making it like a stapler, pressure on the front = fire.

The US tested arming dolphins with guns that only have the front pressure trigger. Basically they were to guard ships. If some diver tries to swim up to a ship, say to attach a bomb, the dolphin would just "touch" the diver with the gun attached to its nose, firing a round and killing the diver.
